A comprehensive photographic history of Hoyland and the surrounding district, Around Hoyland in Old Photographs shows life in this varied and historic area of South Yorkshire. As well as the township of Hoyland and the villages which it administered - Platts Co on, Elsecar, Skiers, Harley and Alderthwaite - this book depicts the historic village of Wentworth and Wentworth Woodhouse, the largest private house in the kingdom. The owners of this estate have been responsible for the development of the area, and one of the family's sons, Thomas Wentworth, played an important role in the prelude to the English Civil War. The Wentworth estate, with its spectacular monuments and follies, is represented in some previously unpublished photographs. This volume contains over 200 images showing village life, industry, prominent local people, events outings, historic buildings, churches and shops. Many of the homes and landmarks featured here have long since disappeared, but this important record of Hoyland life will make fascinating reading for residents and visitors alike.

My interest in this book is its proximity to Tankersley(village). Given that, it is a photographic historical essay on the town of Hoy, and that area in Yorkshire.
There are 95 pages, several hundred photographs or illustrations.
