On June 6, 1944, Private First Class Michael Donovan and 13,000 U.S. Paratroopers soar over the English Channel toward their Drop Zone in enemy-occupied France. Their capture the town of Carentan from the Germans and secure an operations base for Allied forces. Suddenly, the sky explodes with anti-aircraft fire, and Donovan's C-47 Skytrain is hit! Within moments, the troops exit the aircraft and plummet toward a deadly destination. On the ground, Donovan finds himself alone in the Lion's Den without food, shelter, or a weapon. In order to survive, the rookie soldier must rely on his instincts and locate his platoon before time runs out.
The format of this book was inviting. I teach 6th grade and can see this being a good fit in my classroom. It gave insight into what a soldier may have experienced and facts about that possible experience. Nice mix.
There were a lot of things about A Time for War by M. Zachary Sherman that I liked. One thing I liked was the shooting scenes. The pictures showed these scenes clearly with lots of fire. Another thing that I liked that it was real. There were really killings in real life and the book had that too.
I think they should have made some more intereting parts. They should have had more people getting killed by the big bombs. Also, the sound effects did not always sound the way a real weapon sounds.
The main character Private Donovan changed a lot during the book. At the beginning, he was scared because it was his first time in a war. He was in a cabin with Nazi soliders and they were looking for people. His friends who were Americans came to rescue him. Together, they all went to another battle. At the other battle, Sargeant Anness got killed. This was sad for Private Donovan because they were very close. They had talked a lot together about how Private Donovan should not be a cowherd. During the battle where Sargeant Anness was killed, Donovan was very brave. Later Donovan realizes that life is short, and so he sends his watch home to his fiance in case he does not make it home. He then leads another private into another battle.
The book reminds me of the movie Red Dawn. This book was not as exciting as Red Dawn. In Red Dawn there was more shootings. Both the book and the movie was in color which made it good.
The book I'm reading is Bloodlines A Time for War. The author is M. Zachary Sherman the genre is action adventure. The main character is Michael T. Donovan, he was a soldier in World War II. He is in a aircraft called the C-47 Sky train and he and 13,000 U.S. Paratroopers where supposed to fly toward their drop zone then jump out of the plane and prepare to fight the German. He was fighting Hitler's German army when his sky train got hit and they were going down so they had to jump out early. Michael was scared to jump and the captain had to convince him to jump so he did. They didn't land in there drop zone where they were supposed to land they were all scattered around the battle field. Michael landed in German territory with no gun and no map. He could hear a German patrol group so the only thing he could do was to run, he felt like a coward, but he knew that's all he could do to survive. I liked a lot of things about the book but there was 2 things I liked most about the book. One is that he put a good image in my head about what was happening and the hardships they faced. The second thing was that he used good verbal use of words in the book. There's one thing that I didn't like it was the book was to short if it was longer I would read the whole thing again. I would recommend this book to people who are into action and adventure and also to people who are into army books.
This book is full of action. If you like the army and war then read this book and the rest of the series. In this book and the other ones you will find information about the guns, equipment, and vehicles used in the time period it was used. Also it is about one family history in war.
