one of the best anthologies that really tackles the lives of those of us outside the gender binary. i'll never forget being the only one in my portland queer punk community who had a debit card and buying this book - we were all so in love with it! pinned down remains one of my favorite books!
This is a fantastic anthology, edited by Toni Amato and Mary Davies, which compiles first person experiences of people all along the gender spectrum. There is a particular emphasis on people with a genderqueer identity, ie a gender identity that does not fit so neatly into "male", "female", "male-to-female transsexual", or "female-to-male transsexual" which until this most recent decade have been the only choices allowed by even the most liberal of psychologists, sociologists, and regular people.
It's well-organized and many of the pieces are extremely well-written.
Great anthology by great people--the publication this was a big thing! Really embraces the folks who lie between labels and categories and gives them a voice.
