David Beckham is both a brilliant footballer and a global icon. The slightest story about his life generates huge media coverage, but those truly close to him have never given their side of his incredible journey - until now. Ted Beckham`s story is the ultimate dream of every father who has kicked a football with his son. A lifelong Manchester United supporter, Ted has seen his son David captain both his beloved Reds and England, as well as becoming an inspiration for a generation along the way. Even David Beckham was once an ordinary kid dreaming of making a living out of football, and in this celebratory book Ted Beckham lovingly charts what happened from David`s birth to his move to Real Madrid. This book is special not just because of Ted`s role as the father of a hero, but because Ted has given exclusive access to all the family photo albums and the unparalleled collection of memorabilia he has amassed during David`s career. The book features 300 exclusive images to complement the text, giving a side to David that has never been seen before. David My Son will delight his fans, giving a fascinating insight into the early life of David, his ambition and determination to succeed as well as his father`s pride and joy as he watched him grow into a great footballer.
The 240 page hard bound book is about David Beckham's life, from his birth until 2005 when he has played for Real Madrid and has established The David Beckham Football Academy. It mainly focuses on David's profession as a footballer, with several side stories about his personal life.
It's quite entertaining the way Ted gives details on David's interest in football from the beginning, on his hard work, triumphs, and dedication to the sports. Ted recounts how he supported his son's passion for football. As a Manchester United fan, he had the major influence on David's desire to play for the club.
The mood of the book is not heavy as there are lots of delightful anecdotes from Ted's own experiences. It's somewhat a personal book, written from the point of view of a father. He tells about David not only as a football star but also as a person. Although Ted seems to portray here that David is a perfect son, he did not exclude the unpleasant episodes in David's career.
The book features loads of photos, all in full colors, which i never get tired looking at. It's like half of the book is Becks' photo album. Man, you can even find the evolution of his hair. There are photos of memorabilia such as game tickets, autographed jersey and even a scanned copy of his birth certificate!
I say it's a great book for David Beckham lovers. You learn more about Becks, from personal accounts of a reliable source who knows him so well – his father.
*** Excerpt:
David’s one passion at school outside football was drawing. Cartoon characters were probably his specialty and he used to spend hours on them. But if you look through his old books, you can see from the doodles of footballs and players that he was thinking about the game all the time.
People often ask me whether David really was so perfect as a child but I can honestly say that he never looked for trouble and never got into scrapes at school. He sometimes got into trouble for talking in class or mucking about at the back and he used to chuck a few rubbers. He was a bit of a chatterbox and I know he didn’t do his homework as well as he should have done but that was the worst you could say of him.
David Beckham My Son, By Ted Beckham, Genre: Biography
I would rate this book with 4 stars (****) as it is a fantastic and inspirational story, yet it lacks a certain element, one that would make it purely exceptional.

This is a book for anyone who can read it. It is a lesson to kids all around the world and at the same time a good story. It is also a great book for the supporters of football, especially Manchester United fans. It is a story about one of the great legends, a man that will be salvaged in the hearts of many…
I found Ted Beckham's book to be an enjoyable one. It is short and very easy to read, a book that could quite comfortably be read in a single day or sitting. I particularly liked the way that David's childhood was described and it was shown that he had to work very hard to get to the top of his chosen sport. Although the writing could have been improved, the book still offered terrific insights into the much-speculated life of David Beckham. A good read for any keen football supporter.
I liked him a lot and I knew a few things before I read it. He is one of my favourite players. But after reading this book I discovered so many things from his life and I realised what a good person he is!
