WARNING: Insta-Lust/Love, coarse language, mention of suicide, violence, sexual scenes. This is my only Trio written in a dual 3rd person POV, but switching all the time between the two main characters. All my other books outside Fluke Trio is writen in 1st person, dual POV.
Azalea grew up devouring Harlequin novels, dreaming of her perfect prince charming. At seventeen, she wrote her first book, which sadly ended up in a box in the basement. She adored Mexican soap operas, brimming with drama, tears, and well-deserved happily ever afters.
Years later, Azalea rediscovered her long-lost book and decided to give writing another go. She brought her teenage story into the 21st century, adding adult language, themes, and conflicts while keeping the original plot. The result was "The Chaos of Us"
Azalea loves reading across all genres, with a special fondness for Paranormal, Contemporary, RomCom, and Dark Romances. A Happily Ever After always warms her heart. She shares her life with a few feline companions who inspire her writing and even make appearances in her stories.
When she's not writing, Azalea teaches primary school, takes care of her little tigers at home, enjoys nature walks, and spends time with good friends, celebrating life.
Holy guacamole Batman what crazy twisted read!! I want to first start off by saying this story was written in the third person……. Which I am not a huge fan of …… but that prologue had Drawn me in from the beginning. …….
Savannah’s job exhausts her most of the time. So at the end of the summer she rewarded herself with this brief vacation after working as a machine for four long years nonstop…….. the plan was to relax on a nice long cruise…….. within the 1st hour on the ship, she found so many things going awry.
A few years ago, Savannah was in a car crash, and she remembers Lil to nothing of her life before the accident, but she has flashes on occasion….. So, imagine how surprise she was when this man told her that he knew her……
Andrew Sanders, the man seems like A shell of himself, see his wife had driven him insane literally and figuratively.
Drew was on this Cruise for business purposes. And now Ten years had gone by, and he was in front of his wife’s carbon copy with a few changes…..
Some authors will attract our attention from the first page, which this particular one did …… I mean, come on, there was a mistake in identity, possibility of mafia ties, Steamy scenes. So many Twists and turns you won't see coming, but few that you will ……. Oh, and did I mention the fact that there was a crazy dysfunctional family drama that was linked to the story as well?
I kind of felt like at times that I was reading a manuscript to a movie…… Then, at other times, I was just frustrated with the way the author laid out some of the Passages in the book……….. Now the question is would I read any more from this author, most definitely, especially if she changes some of her ways of using the third person POV
First of all I want to thank Azalea Hudson for sharing her book with me in exchange for an honest review. I feel absolutely honored. ♥
This book is the story of Savannah and Drew. In the prologue a woman jumps of a building and Drew is absolutely devastated. Savannah works incredibly hard and finally treats herself to a cruise to unwind and relax. On that cruise she meets Drew and he instantly approaches her. She is the spitting image of his late wife Hailey. And he believes her to be Hailey. No matter what Savannah says, he is convinced she is his late wife.
In the beginning of the book, towards the middle there is a lot of push and pull. He believes she is not his wife, and then he is convinced she is again. The plot twist of this book was really well worked out and I truly enjoyed reading it. So much is going on, and I loved discovering all the details. The epilogue warmed my heart as well.
This is a good novel. And I truly want to emphasize that.
But for some reason this book wasn't for me. I had a lot of trouble with how the book was written. Inside a chapter we had a lot of point of view changes. We read a few lines through Savannah's eyes, than through Drew's. And especially in the beginning that shifted a lot. And every time that happened I was thrown out of the story. I wish the chapters were shorter and that each chapter would have one point of view written inside it. I don't mind the changes chapter to chapter. But the different point of views in one chapter didn't work for me.
The book is also written a bit distantly. I wasn't able to connect with the characters. And even though I loved meemaw, I just couldn't form a picture of her in my brain. I wish the book was written more personally. I love diving into the souls of characters and get utterly destroyed by then.
But I also realize this might be a complete preference thing. So I am not gonna say that my views will represent everyone's. Other readers might fall madly in love with this book and the story. It just didn't work for me personally.
And like I said before. The story is good, the plot twist is amazing. So I truly encourage everyone to pick up this novel and form your opinions about it.
Azalea truly deserves a lot of praise. ♥ This book just wasn't for me. But do pick it up and support Azalea!
For me it was a 3 star book in how it was written. If I look at the book as a whole I truly understand others gives it 4 huge stars. But because I didn't have that connection, I'll settle on 3. Don't get me wrong I still liked it and enjoyed reading it!
This is my first review to write and I'm happy to do it The story opens in a scene that left me stunned. *gasp* If you are sensitive, read the warnings. Savannah and Drew are two broken humans because of their pasts, and they found each other in the middle of their chaos. He needed someone to guide him back, and she understood his need. Drew sometimes behaved like a jerk in the beginning because of the absurd situation they were in, and the fear to suffer again, but Savannah never took crap from him, putting the hunk in his place.
OMG OMG OMG! I loved this story! 😍 *sobs* What a beautiful love between those two! The background story was amazing, and when I thought I had everything figured out *bang* I didn't. No wonder they were so broken. I'd be, too. I received this ARC in exchange for an honest review, and I'm glad I didn't let it pass. I look forward to read more from this author.
"You're mine to keep. You accused me once of thinking I didn't deserve a second chance. Guess what? I changed my mind. I don't care what happens next. I am with you till the end."
Wow! What a fantastic book! *Read the trigger warnings*
This is Azalea's second book I read, and it's even more impressive than her first one! The romance and, OMG, the revelations! And can we talk about that opening scene? WOW!
If you like dark romance with a hint of thriller vibes, give this book a read! You won't regret it.
Drew and Savannah couldn’t catch a break! And they had me right there with them trying to figure out why! I loved everything about this book. I had so many endings that were not right which kept my turning those pages as fast as I could. You want their relationship to work from the start. And you feel all of what they are feeling. Loved it!!!
This book takes you from one emotion to another. Just when you think you have it all figured out BAM.....another door opens, and it isn't at all what you thought. But at the end of the day, the heart knows who it truly belongs to.
Before I start, let's take a moment to appreciate this book cover!
That done, this book opens with a shocking start (check trigger warnings which include suicide) and then continues on an exciting spiral of twists and turns that did have me page turning.
Ok, I'm not gonna lie at first I disliked Drew. His aggressive attitude to Savannah was annoying at the very least (yes I know there's a back story, but that's never an excuse!)
However, as she gave as good as she got (again ) and seeing the relationship of these two develop and change was very well done, a few chapters in I was routing for them to resolve any issues.
I loved the way this books plot twisted, how little snippets of Savannah's past were revealed and the story took on a new direction. Not just Drew's past but also Savannah's was exciting and dangerous.
A few twists I suspected, some I never saw coming.
I loved the spice element of their relationship and how they developed.
Trying not to give too much away, but go Savannah!!
Will definitely be keen to read more by this author and I'm quitetly hoping Savannah's best friend and partner get a book of their own too!
Thank you to the author for my copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.
BRIEF SYNOPSIS- What would you do if your entire life was a living nightmare, and your only wish was to free yourself?
What if the only way to protect the one you loved was to take yourself out of the picture, for good?
After the repercussions of his trauma were under control, Drew crossed the seas. A decade goes by and on a cruise he meets the mirror image of his long-lost love, and all the demons from his past strike at him again.
In the middle of the ocean, Savannah finds herself instantly connected to the handsome, tormented stranger who thinks she’s someone he knew.
The car accident left only bits and pieces of her memory, but Drew wasn’t in any of them, raising many doubts and questions about her old self.
This is the first non-paranormal book I’ve read from a paranormal author and the mystery it entailed made the read worth it 🙌 I was trying to guess what was going on before I got closer to the end but I wasn’t exactly correct in my theory 🧐 Azalea Hudson had me stumped 👏
Meet Savannah. She’s a successful young woman who whacks Drew in the face with a door on a cruise ship. Next thing you know, they’re having s3x! Whoooo!! Problem here is, Drew is so convinced Savannah is actually Hailey, his wife who unalived herself. So, Drew decides he’ll bang Savannah and then interrogate her! Good plan, sir 🫤 After they get off the cruise, Drew does his research on her. Meanwhile, Savannah gets home to find her house tossed around and an idle threat written for her! 👀 Wtf happened?? Savannah goes to stay with Drew and eventually she realizes she’s pregnant 🤰 yes, he IS the father, thank you Maury Povich. Savannah has a dangerous past that just may have caught up to her! Now Drew is involved!! Is he rich enough to put up with her sh!t?? Is he still gonna keep calling her Hailey during s3x?? Will Savannah be safe from people destroying her house and threatening her?? Read this good ass book to find out 🙌
With The Chaos of Us, Azalea has created an impressively complex and suspenseful romantic story.
Ten years have passed since Drew saw his wife, Hailey jump off the roof of his office block, after she betrayed him in the most horrific of ways. Time and therapy have done little to lessen Drew’s anguish. A fortuitous meeting on a cruise throws Savannah into his path, and she’s his late wife’s doppelgänger. Dismissive of her protestations, Drew’s convinced Savannah is Hailey, back from the dead.
I felt the exact same thoughts as Drew throughout this book - constantly bouncing between is she or isn’t she? There are lots of twists and turns to Drew and Savannah’s story - enough to keep you on your toes, for sure.
The Chaos of Us is written in the third person, and whilst that’s not always my preferred reading tense, as I tend to find the POVs a little too choppy and confusing, in this instance it does add to the chaotic nature of the characters’ push-and-pull relationship. And helps sustain the level of mystery and subterfuge right until the very end.
All-in-all a uniquely enjoyable and thought-provoking read.
This is the second book I read by this author, a different subgenre and in third person. Once again, I am in awe by the versatility Azalea has.
This book has some heavy subjects so be sure to check trigger warnings.
Drew and Savannah's connection sparks of the pages, but each are haunted by the ghosts of their pasts, and they can't seem to shake it. They push each other continously away, which made me shout at the characters more than once, specifically Drew. When you realise the depth of their traumas you can't help but feel for these broken souls.
I won't do spoilers in this review, only know that after everything they go through, there is a HEA.
A dark romance with breathless twists and turns The Chaos of Us had me hooked from page one. The secret that haunts the life of Savanah Mitchels and Drew made me sit at the edge of my seat and keep reading, but what made me fall in love with this story was the gripping romance between these two extraordinary characters. Great plot, sizzling chemistry, swoon-worthy romance, and unexpected twists and turns: this novel has it all. If you crave mystery in your romances, you should definitely try The Chaos of Us.
I want to start this rating telling the things I enjoyed about the book and then get into why I'm only giving it three stars. I really enjoyed that there were two points of view. I love reading about what two different characters are feeling/ thinking. When an author does this in their book, it gives the book more depth, in my opinion. I also enjoyed that some parts of the book were very unpredictable (twists and turns). The plot was definitely interesting!
The reason I'm only giving this book 3 stars is because I did not feel like this book held my attention. There were many times I had to go back and reread because I would get confused or zone out. One of the things that really turned me off about this book was that the points of view from the two main characters would switch in the middle of a page. It was a little hard for me to keep up with who was thinking what at what time. I wish the author would have put the different points of view in different chapters or created chapter breaks between the switching.
I will definitely give her second book a try if it is offered on kindle unlimited or sent as an ARC.
This book was an ARC for me and I want to personally thank the author for the opportunity to post this review and taking the time out to personally send me the book!
It starts out with a scene that some readers might find heavy or triggering, but it got me curious. I had two theories:
~ If the scene is a flashback to an event that would negatively affect the MC and determine how he behaves in a huge portion of the storyline.
~If it’s a scene from the future and the story that commences will build up to it.
I got it right on the first guess, but damn Azalea can write!
While some readers might hate on Drew for the way he treated Savannah, I can't say I blame him.
Why?
To be honest, if I went through half the stuff he had, I'd be twisted in different shapes.
As far as dark romances go, The Chaos of Us is one hell of a book. Azalea Hudson created an imperfectly perfect couple, with sketchy pasts and a plot that got me curious to find out ‘what the heck’ was going on.
Thanks to the author for this copy in exchange for my review.
I loved that this book was written in 3rd person. 3rd person is my favourite pov, and I feel more of a connection to characters in this pov. The book starts with Drew witnessing his wife commenting suicide. This totally shatters him. After ten years, he goes on a cruise and meets Savannah, who is the double of his wife. He believes that she is his wife, and no matter what she says, he doesn't believe her. There is a lot of back and forth between them. One minute, he believes she isn't his wife, and then the next she is. This was a really good read, and I liked reading about the characters. But halfway through the book, I figured the twist out, but this didn't take away from the story.
A case of mistaken identity leads to a very turbulent relationship between Savannah and Drew. Trust is the biggest issue from start to finish. Is Savannah and Hailey the same person? Will Drew ever trust anyone again? A good long read, chaotic at times. As the title says- The Chaos of Us.
This story has many twists and turns, keeping the suspense on a high level throughout. There is great character development and leaves room for more stories with other characters.
This is by far one of the best books I have read in a very long time. The Chaos of Us is profoundly impactful and emotional. Drew and Savannah are very well written characters with tormented souls and abounding love, who set out to overcome seemingly impossible obstacles. Hudson writes with great intelligence, yet she’s talented enough to allow her characters to reach everyone. Her message is that we are often not who we appear to be, but we search for wholeness and sense amidst the chaos. By the end of the book, I let out a deep breathe I was well aware I was holding from page. Definitely an author to watch. She’s brilliant!
I thought I had it all figured out towards the end, but as it turned out, I didn't. The plot twists in "The Chaos of Us" kept coming, leaving me captivated. If you're craving an emotional roller coaster filled with secrets, miscommunication, and a tumultuous relationship, then this is the novel you've been waiting for.
Join Savannah and Drew on their extraordinary journey, which begins aboard a cruise ship where their lives become intricately intertwined. Drew, haunted by grief and longing, believes he has found his deceased wife in the enigmatic woman he meets on the ship. As their paths converge, the story unfolds with mystery, romance, and emotional depth that will keep you enthralled from beginning to end. They are both attracted to each other since the beginning and it's an attraction that proves to be impossible to fight.
Azalea weaves a tale that keeps readers guessing at every turn. Moments of heartache and hope are seamlessly interwoven, leaving you breathless and emotionally invested. Reality blurs with perception, and the line between past and present becomes tantalizingly thin, ensuring that each twist and revelation lands with maximum impact.
Drew's internal struggle is palpable, torn between the desire to embrace this newfound love and the fear of losing his grip on reality. Meanwhile, Savannah's veiled past adds an extra layer of mystery and makes us empathize with Drew's fears. No matter how lovely she is, you start wondering “What if Drew is right to be afraid?” We're left questioning whether he's right, especially as secrets begin to surface, threatening to unravel the delicate bond they've formed. The miscommunication that ensues further intensifies the emotional roller coaster that is this story.
As the characters confront their flaws, fears, and desires, they are propelled into moments of heartache, vulnerability, and unexpected revelations. The strength of their connection is tested, forcing them to confront their inner demons and make difficult choices. It is very difficult to say anything about this book without giving spoilers, and I hate spoilers. Each page brings a new revelation, keeping you on the edge of your seat until the very last word. "The Chaos of Us" isn't just an ordinary love story—it's a profound exploration of the human heart, laying bare its flaws, desires, and complexities. It has interesting side characters—Hello, Cotton! Yes, Cotton is a cat. The main attraction. Because life would be dull without cats.
I can’t wait for Azalea's next book. Before diving into book please check the author's trigger warnings, as the story contains situations that might be sensitive for some readers. It wasn't a dark book for me personally, but it holds a grip on your emotions and takes you on a journey you won't soon forget.

I highly recommend Savannah and Drew's story. It's deep, it's dark, and doesn't hold back from the difficult issues, and you witness the promised HEA as it unfolds.
It was chaos indeed. Drew and Savannah didn't have an easy path to walk on. Filled with lies, deceit, and betrayal, their surroundings were as toxic as they were lethal.
No wonder Drew had so much trust issues. They both lived through hell, and when a chance encounter forces their lives together, they are forced to face their pasts, slay their traumas, and learn to trust each other not only for the sake of their growing relationship, but for their lives.
People aren't who they think, their past might not be what they recollect, and the surprises popping up in their way are more than what they look like.
To sum it up: chaos.
This story was really involving, and I'm eager to see what's next.
You see the person you love most in this world…die. Then, several months later…You see them? But it’s not some trick of the eyes, it’s really them. But, that’s impossible!
Azalea Hudson weaves a suspenseful tale of romance and intrigue, double-crosses and found family….that maybe should have remained lost.
The romantic chemistry between the two leads is very sweet and tender. Even as the world around them, and their pasts, are replete with darkness.
If you like dark thrillers with a helping of steamy sweet romance, you definitely don’t want to miss this one (and it’s sequels!).
Wow, that opening had my eyes wide open. Drew’s story is captivating and emotional. But it grows in complexity when he meets Savannah. But what’s love without chaos, mystery, and romance. Author Hudson pulls it together perfectly in this riveting story. Dark secrets, past hurts, and fate combine to bring a story to keep you turning the pages. I enjoyed the writing style and dialogue between the characters. There was never a dull moment with the back and forth between the characters and the events unfolding around them.
Let me say the title of this book is perfection. There is total chaos going on between Savannah and Drew. Twists turns and heat galore. I received an ARC copy of this book and it didn't disappoint. It's a love story with a bit of everything including suspense, mystery, and even mafia. There are many likable characters, and I enjoyed reading this story of two tormented souls searching for truth and love from out of the darkness.
Wow, what an incredible story! From the beginning, which was as dramatic as one can get, to the twists and turns surrounding Savannah and Drew, this book is smoke, mirrors and a LOT of steam.
The drama begins on the first page and doesn’t let up for the whole book, as Drew is tormented by Savannah’s familiarity to a woman he had loved and hated in equal measure. We get inside both characters’ heads as the mystery gradually unfolds. Is Savannah really Drew’s lost love, Hailey? Or is she just a doppeldanger drawn into Drew’s tortured nightmares?
The sex is HOT, as love, hate and mistrust fight with lust between Drew and Savannah. Savannah begins to doubt her own sanity in the face of Drew’s insistence that she is really Hailey, who is supposed to be dead.
I have to mention the head-hopping writing style, which won’t be for everyone. I was disconcerted by it at first, but then saw how perfectly it suited this angsty, angry romance. The last time I read a book with head-hopping throughout, it was The Pillars of the Earth, by Ken Follett, so this book is in illustrious company. The style isn’t something I would want to read every day, but as I said, for this fast-paced novel, it worked fine.
Ditto the exclamation points, which had the characters shouting at each other most of the time. Again, the plot suited that style, because with the kind of problems Drew and Savannah had, they WOULD be shouting at each other a lot.
Suspend disbelief for the denouement, because for a story like this, it wasn’t just going to end simply. Oh no. With the mafia involved and the puzzle surrounding a stolen necklace, the book keeps you guessing until the very last page. Even then, you wonder whether you’ve been drawn into Drew and Savannah’s twisted, screwed-up world.
Not for everyone, but a fabulous read for anyone who loves their romances dark, twisty and full of drama.
I really enjoyed reading this story. The author has a great way of connecting the audience to the charectors and their lives. I'm looking forward to reading more books of hers!
