“In these uncertain times, I know 100 percent that I can stake my life on the unshakeable, unchanging promises of God!” —SHEILA WALSH
Where do you turn for shelter in the worst storms of life?
You know God’s promises, but are they for you, are they for now, are they for this? If you look to your circumstances alone, it may seem that God has forgotten you. But He hasn’t. He can’t. And He wouldn’t even if He could. God is the only promise maker who is always a promise keeper. And God’s promises will never fail you!
In The Shelter of God’s Promises, gifted Bible teacher and inspiring Women of Faith speaker Sheila Walsh searches Scripture for what God has promised us, what God’s promises mean, and how encounters with Christ are the eternal fulfillment of His unrelenting commitment to us. Through vulnerable storytelling, new insights, and an in-depth Bible study, Sheila offers powerful, heart-filled teaching on ten bedrock promises of God, providing the foundation for daily confidence, joy, hope—and shelter.

This audio has really taken me by surprise. I was expecting this to be very ordinary and maybe a bit dull, but I have thoroughly enjoyed it. Shelia Walsh has written a lovely book full of encouragement to remind us of how wonderful God is. As she says in the beginning, God’s promises remind us of who He is, and not about what we can get from Him. This audio has done exactly that for me. It is narrated perfectly by the author, you feel like she is a really good friend encouraging you all the way. I like the personal stories she has included, and the wonderful refreshing way she tells the very familiar bible stories about the different people who meet Jesus and have their lives changed. My favourite chapters are the ones about grace and strength. I recommend this audio for anyone who needs some encouragement, as you will definitely come away re-focused and encouraged. Thanks to christianaudio.com’s Reviewer’s Program for this copy.
Sheila Walsh has not disappointed me yet. The Shelter of Gods Promises is explored very honestly by a woman who has walked many paths in her lifetime and found God waiting for her on each and every one. Her experiences should encourage all who believe they have been forgotten in their life struggles. Thank you Sheila.
There were some very good nuggets of wisdom but mostly it was a jumbled mess. She kept repeating herself over and over and over again and her points (I don't even know if there were points) were all over the place.
In the chapter on strength, Mrs. Walsh writes "[Joni Eareckson Tada] told me that when she met me, the first word that came to her mind was 'strong.' After my hospitalization, she said, 'A different and even better word came to mind: "gentle," more so, "broken and gentle."'" Having read several of Sheila Walsh's books, I agree that broken and gentle are apt descriptions for her writing and overall tone.
The stories within this book add depth and value to her points, and her exposition on biblical words and stories increased my faith. She wrote in such a way that readers can easily skip around to the topic most pressing at the moment, but they work together to encourage greater confidence in God's promises.
The Shelter of God’s Promises by Sheila Walsh was a powerful introduction to her work, which I read with my Bible study group. This book quickly became a blessing in my spiritual journey and now holds a place on my favorite bookshelf. Walsh does a wonderful job of highlighting God’s promises through relatable stories from the Bible, making it a book you’ll want to refer back to time and time again. It serves as a comforting reminder of God’s faithfulness, offering hope and encouragement through its heartfelt messages. Highly recommended for anyone looking to deepen their understanding of God’s promises.
Lots of great nuggets of wisdom about the hard questions in the Christian life and how God promises we don’t have to face them alone. We serve a beautiful God, and Walsh explains ten of his many promises clearly and impactfully. My version included a Bible study at the back, which added a lot of scriptural depth to her discussion. I love the way she puts things: “beautiful fellowship with God,” “divine adventure of partnering with Him,” blessed = divine joy, perfect happiness. A very enjoyable read.
Eh, I expected to read this book with highlighter in hand and mark up the pages, but that wasn't really the case. This book fell a bit short for me. Walsh makes plenty of good and important points about God's faithfulness and trustworthiness but nothing that shaped my thinking about God in a new way or impacted me powerfully. That said, it's absolutely possible that this book and its hopeful message could be just what you need at this time!
Read Sheila Walsh's book as part of a Women's Bible Study group. Excellent choice! The video accompanying the book featured Sheila and her sincerity was evident, emotional for me at times, but very empowering to continue my study of scripture. The book has been very helpful to me at this stage of my life.
Sheila Walsh’s teaching in this book is nourishing for the soul. I found myself rediscovering scripture verses I have heard my whole life and finding new ways to put them into practice. Definitely recommend 🙏
This was the first time reading this author and I did enjoy her style. It was apparent that her target audience (at least in this book) is women and she definitely hit the target.
Will definitely be looking for more of her books in the future
I enjoyed the book overall. However, it took a long time to get through this book. I kept putting it down. As there are some great nuggets of wisdom and key points to take away from here, it just seemed a bit wordy and repetitive.
This one is a must read. I received it a couple of days ago and honestly I am not toally through with it but I was so impressed I wanted to go ahead and tell you about it. If your thinking of doing some shopping for Valentines or maybe if your thinking of starting a new study for the New Year The Shelter of God's Promise's is an excellant choice.
Before I tell you more watch Sheila's trailer video . . .
If your a fan of Sheila Walsh then you already know the book is filled with Biblical priniciples.
For me, this is the first book I have had the opportunity to read. I enjoyed the way it was 'set up'. Mrs. Walsh included personal stories as well as stories from women she has met through the years. There are quotes and verses strategically placed between the text to make it read easy. It isn't just page after page of text with no breaks. To me this makes it easy to read and absorb. Each chapter begins with a quote or a scripture.
Personally the chapter that stood out for me was Chapter 4 Confidence/I Can't See God's Plan in This Pain. The other Chapters include: Promises, Peace, Love, Grace, Hope, Strength, More.
And the last Chapter Home/ I have a Future. . . ". . . I saw something that was breathakingly clear to me. I saw not only that all the promises of God are fulfilled in Christ to offer us shelter, but that He is the Shelter. He is the Cleft in the Rock. Christ's promise is to us is not that He will give us shelter but that He will be our Shelter. "
As I said in the first paragraph I highly recommend this book. And, I believe that it is written in a way that a 'seeker' would be comfortably in reading it and come to a more clearer knowledge and understanding.

The Shelter of God’s Promises is one of the latest books by author, speaker and former 700 Club host, Sheila Walsh. The promises she shares are all centered on Jesus -- the cleft of God -- and His assurance to be our shelter. Drawing on her own personal experiences and using insightful summaries of scripture, Sheila makes the case that we have refuge in God. If you’re facing a storm, God’s promise to BE your shelter is hope you can cling to. If you’re not in the storm now, prepare by taking God’s word to heart, because storms WILL come. It’s not “if” but “when”. To assist you in applying the lessons to your own life, the book has a Study Guide included for personal reflection or group discussion.
Over all, I liked the book. While some of the personal narratives felt forced or even out of place, the spiritual perception demonstrated in Sheila’s accounts of scripture are quite inspired. Although I never formed a clear picture of the structure intended by the book, The Shelter of God’s Promises still spoke to me and helped my understanding of the fact that God is always with us, caring for us and protecting us “in the midst”.
The most meaningful part of the book for me was the very last part. Sheila talks of the perspective of John the Baptist at the end of his life. John, having devoted his entire life to “making a way for the Lord” was beheaded after suffering in prison. How must he have felt when he realized that Christ would not intervene? It is recorded in Luke 7:20 that he sent two of his disciples to Christ to ask ‘Are you the one who is to come, or should we expect someone else?’. In Luke 7:22-23 Jesus answered, “The blind receive sight, the lame walk, those who have leprosy are cured, the deaf hear, the dead are raised, and the good news is preached to the poor. Blessed is the man who does not fall away on account of me.” The majority of that scripture is quoting Isaiah 61:1 but it omits the part of the verse that speaks of freeing captives. John would have recognized the omission. Surely his heart sank as he digested the message: he would not know the freedom Christ came to bring...not yet. The crux of the matter is a question that we all must face at one time or another in our lives. “...will you love and serve a God you do not always understand?...God could intervene, but for reasons known only to Him, He does not.” (p.181)
The answer that gives me the most comfort comes from I Corinthians 13:12: “Now we see but a poor reflection as in a mirror; then we shall see face to face. Now I know in part; then I shall know fully, even as I am fully known.” Sheila Walsh states, “We are a people who do not live for this world. This is not our home. But until we finally see Jesus face-to-face, He has promised that he will never leave us. He has promised that He has gone ahead of us to prepare a place for us” (p.182). Stand on that promise!

As I read through this book, I found myself saying, "This is me." Throughout her stories and illustrations, I saw my life, my struggles, and my failures. At times I would laugh through my tears as I was reminded that God does have a plan for my life and that even though I may not understand the pain, He has made me a promise. . . several, in fact. Every page of this book delivered hope and peace.
The book includes an in-depth Bible study, and as I read, I couldn't help but think what a wonderful topic this would make for my next series of Sunday School lessons. In these dark times, we all need to be reminded of the promises of God. As the old song says, "You can't stand on promises if you don't know what they are." Sheila has done a wonderful job of making sure that her readers not only know God's promises, but understand them as well. This is a must read for anyone who has ever asked, "What now, Lord?"

For no matter how many promises God has made, they are
"Yes" in Christ. And so through him the "Amen" is spoken
by us to the glory of God. —2 Corinthians 1:20
When you think of promises, you don't want to think of what's broken, of brokenness. It's human nature to want a sure thing and for someone to back up the certainties, guaranteed, no questions asked. But it's just like God to think of the unthinkable, to show us that the impossible is possible, that there is one kind of brokenness that holds everything together and in which promises are kept.

Sometimes I read a book and I have to set it aside for awhile to ponder a truth that I discovered. That happened to me several times as I read this book. When I read about the woman who has been bleeding for 12 year and how she touched the hem of Jesus' garment I became very aware that He is not too busy for me. He was headed to Jairus's house to heal his daughter, but stopped to talk with this woman. This was so powerful for me to know that He cares enough about me to take time to be with me. I know my mixed up thoughts were caused by things that happened in my childhood and I so thankful that because of this book I finally "get it".
Another promise that is powerful is the promise of grace. The author states, "His grace shelters us regardless of what we do or leave undone. I think it's so hard because there is no other relationship on earth like that. Every other relationship we have is affected, to some extent, by how we behave or what we say".
And finally, in the chapter on Hope, she states, "The experience of walking through a dark night is a common bond for those who love God. The redemptive element in this struggle is the ability to turn to those coming behind you and let them know they are not alone."
There are many other examples of promises that touched my heart and caused me to stop and pray and ponder (and sometimes cry). Thank you for writing this book. I'm sure I will re-read it again and again.

After receiving this book from BookSneeze I found myself gazing through the chapters to attempt to gather what this book was further about. It instantly caught my attention after finding that she was making this book relatable to all scenarios women might encounter. Sheila Walsh divides each chapter with things we can correlate with promises God gives in the Bible. The last chapter was definitely memorable, and after I was finished reading I found myself walking away with insight I hadn't had before about how God uses occurrences, and lives in the Bible to show us he is always with us. The chapters nicely begin with a personal story she shares to show the theme occuring in modern times, and then she uses the rest of the chapter to explain an instance that Biblical characters would have been faced with a similar situation. I mentioned that as I read I found something relatable about it. I wouldn't say this book is targeted toward my age group of early 20 somethings', but it provides something for everyone. This book definitely probably works better in a group discussion which it is designed for. Men will also find examples from the Bible that would be insightful for them, but the book is is mainly targeted toward women. Overall this book is a quick, insightful read. I received this copy of The Shelter of God's Promises from Thomas Nelson in exchange for a review
The Shelter of God’s Promises is both for personal use and for group study.
This is a book written by a woman with an open heart taught by God. Sheila Walsh speaks out of experience, and from a voice of love, teaching and inspiring the reader.
Her ten chapter topics are: Promises, Promises/I Need Something to Hold On To; Provision/I Don’t Have Enough; Peace/I’m Afraid and Feel Alone; Confidence/I Can’t See God’s Plan in This Pain; Love/I Don’t Believe That Anyone Could Really Love Me; Grace/I Have Failed; Hope/I’m Broken; Strength/I Feel Things Are Crashing Around Me; More/I Know There’s Something Better; Home/I Have a Future.
Each topic is skillfully and tenderly addressed as she shares in a one on one manner, sometimes in humour – sometimes from pain and vulnerability – what God has revealed to her.
For someone who is seeking some answers, this may be the book to read. For someone seeking comfort in a hard place, for someone needing further insight – at the back of the book is a study guide with questions to consider after each chapter. It’s divided into four brief sections: Discover; Believe; Live; Memorize (with a scripture verse to memorize that week.) Taken seriously, the questions will help to motivate a deeper walk with Christ.
Even if the reader chooses to not use this book as a study it will still be an inspirational read of comfort and encouragement.
Where do you go when life's storms are raging all around you? You run to God and His promises. In Sheila Walsh's book, The Shelter of God's Promises, she reminds us of many of them - God's promises of provision, peace, confidence, love, grace, hop, strength, and more!
Throughout the book, she weaves scripture with the hard realities of life. Yes, life is difficult. God didn't promise us a bed a roses, but said, "In this world you will have trouble. But take heart! I have overcome the world." ~ John. 16.33
In typical Sheila-style, you will be welcomed into the stories of hardship and rejoice with the promises of God that each person clings to.
As a Women of Faith attendee, this book is an extension of her testimony and her willingness to show us her imperfect side.
This book includes a free, in-depth Bible study. Also, a separate DVD-based Bible study program is available for purchase with its own participant's guide.

I recently read The Shelter of God’s Promises written by Sheila Walsh. The author asks “Where do you turn for shelter in the worst storms of life?” The book is divided into ten chapters and Sheila references scripture verses for what God has promised us, what God’s promises mean, and how encounters with Christ are the eternal fulfillment of His unrelenting commitment to us.
I felt inspired and reassured of God’s protection (shelter) after reading this book and will keep in mind this verse “Never will I leave you; never will I forsake you” (Hebrews 13.5). The book is written in a way that is easy to read and understand and also includes a Bible Study in the back. This is a great book for anyone who wants or needs affirmation that God is always with us and I would highly recommend it to everyone.
