Grata dell’accoglienza ricevuta, Madame Curie comincia a raccontare la straordinaria parabola della sua esistenza, umana e dalla storia della sua famiglia di origini ebraiche nella Polonia russa al suo arrivo a Parigi, dal matrimonio con Pierre Curie agli anni di ricerca in laboratorio, dalla vittoria dei due premi Nobel alle vicende della Prima Guerra Mondiale, si dipana la storia di una grande scienziata che portò avanti la propria ricerca per amore del bene comune e dell’umanità.

Marie Curie (born Maria Skłodowska; also known as Maria Skłodowska-Curie) was a physicist and chemist of Polish upbringing and, subsequently, French citizenship. She was a pioneer in the field of radioactivity, the first and only person honored with Nobel Prizes in two different sciences, and the first female professor at the University of Paris.

She was born in Warsaw, Vistulan Country, Russian Empire, and lived there until she was 24. In 1891 she followed her elder sister Bronisława to study in Paris, where she obtained her higher degrees and conducted her scientific work. She founded the Curie Institutes in Paris and Warsaw. She was the wife of fellow-Nobel-laureate Pierre Curie and the mother of a third Nobel laureate, Irène Joliot-Curie.

While an actively loyal French citizen, she never lost her sense of Polish identity. Madame Curie named the first new chemical element that she discovered (1898) "polonium" for her native country, and in 1932 she founded a Radium Institute (now the Maria Skłodowska-Curie Institute of Oncology) in her home town, Warsaw, headed by her physician-sister Bronisława.

'L'umanità ha sicuramente bisogno di uomini pratici che sappiano valorizzare al meglio il proprio lavoro per il loro interesse, senza dimenticare quello generale. Ma ha bisogno anche di sognatori per i quali perseguire altruisticamente uno scopo è così tassativo che diventa impossibile per loro dedicare attenzione al loro interesse materiale.'
Marie Sklodowska Curie, quale sognatrice sei stata, e quanti sogni regali ancora a quella bambina riccioluta a cui non veniva proposto di partecipare ai giochi matematici, come invece accadeva per i compagnetti maschi.
Eppure la lettura di questi suoi appunti autobiografici mi ha distolto da una considerazione statica e irraggiungibile di un'icona, mi è ora una compagna durante i faticosi, ma immensamente gratificanti, studi scientifici; è tremendamente familiare quel bisogno immersivo di completa solitudine, sofferta e, assieme, disperatamente ricercata.
Lettura necessaria anche per chi teme un andamento non lineare del proprio percorso di studi!

If you have the fortune of picking up this book, you’re in for a soul-cleansing journey. In it, you’ll see that true greatness is never divorced from humility, humanity, and honour.

Marie Curie blazed the trails of scientific discovery, social change, and feminist aspirations, with incredible grace and resilience.

It’s amazing how she never got blinded by material pursuits, unwaveringly upholding her pure dedication to science and humanity. It’s amazing how she always managed to cultivate affection and content in depraved situations. It’s even more amazing how she allowed herself the grief of widowhood while being a devoted, doting mother and educator.

Even if you ignore the fact that Marie Curie earned two Nobel prizes and cultivated a family of more Nobel laureates, you cannot but see the strength and light within her character that allowed her to bring warmth and hope wherever she went - this woman represented the beauty of humanity.

Alright, I’ll stop before I sound like I’m head over heels in love with Marie Curie. Just know that should you ever been thwarted, this is your antidote.

P.S. I rate it 4/5 because of the suspicious exaltation of the United States.

《居里夫人传》（波兰）玛丽·居里。

良好的环境、设备齐全的实验室、得力的助手、必要的资金支持确实可以让研究者节省时间、集中精力更有效率地取得研究成果。对于不爱惜人才的行为真是痛心啊。个人觉得居里夫妇应该接受某些职位或者资助，因为最终目的是为了更好的科研，虽然克服了种种艰苦的环境，但是当环境更好一些的时候，不是可以更好的投身所热爱的科学研究生活中吗？居里先生过早的离世，真是令人惋惜。如果他们有更好的环境或者在美国的研究室又会是怎样呢……
