Brava Brothers #2

Never Too Much

Rate this book
In the wonderfully erotic bestseller, Too Much Temptation, readers fell in love with two brothers -- dark, sexy Noah, and his roguish, younger brother, Ben -- as Noah followed his heart's desire. Now, acclaimed author Lori Foster returns to their world, this time exploring the sensual longings, secret wounds, and hidden needs of irresistible Ben Badwin, a man for whom there is never too much of a good thing...

He Wanted Her Completely

A confirmed bachelor, Ben Badwin has had his share of women, and he likes them as sexy, wild, and uninhibited as his desires. Nothing at all like the brash, dirt-covered, wholesomely cute woman who just strutted into his diner for a cold drink. But something about Sierra Murphy's independent attitude makes Ben fantasies run wild. He'd love nothing more than to dazzle her with his prized sensual skills...to make her want him as badly as he suddenly wants her...

Sierra has her own plans -- and they don't include getting involved with a notorious Romeo. Fiercely independent, with her own landscaping business to run, she makes it perfectly clear that she doesn't need a man to help her, not even one as sinfully tempting as Ben. But the more Sierra keeps her distance, the more Ben wants her. And the more Ben wants her, the harder it is for Sierra to steer clear of his teasing touches and enticing eyes. To get him into her bed -- and out of her system -- Sierra makes him a proposition: she'll sleep with him, but for one night only. Now, it's up to Ben to turn one night of pure ecstasy into a lifetime of passion...

Another Lori Foster favorite recently released in audio format!!

4.5 Much Too Tempting Stars!!

Ben Badwin is a confirmed bachelor and has had his share of women. Ben simply loves women, he’s a shameless flirt yet always respectful which comes from the fact that he loves and adores his mother, who raised him alone.

Sierra has just moved in across the street from Ben’s Motel & Diner and is looking for a fresh start, all she wants is to make a go of her landscaping business and forget her past. She is an independent and determined young woman, with a past that she would rather forget. Romance is the last thing on her mind especially with the handsome motel owner across the street. When she first meets Ben, she immediately figures she would just be another notch on his bedpost.

Sierra is nothing like the women Ben usually goes for she’s standoffish and usually covered in dirt, yet wholesomely cute. But something about Sierra Murphy's independent attitude makes Ben’s fantasies run wild. He'd love nothing more than to seduce her with his sensual prowless...to make her want him as much as he wants her but Sierra makes it perfectly clear that she doesn't need a man to help her, not even one as tempting as Ben.

The more Sierra keeps her distance, the more relentless Ben becomes and the more Ben wants her, the harder it is for Sierra to say no to Ben’s teasing touches. To get Ben out of her system, Sierra makes a proposition, she'll sleep with him, "one night only", no strings and no ties.….now, it's up to Ben to turn one night into a lifetime of love and passion...unfortunately Sierra's past is haunting her making Ben's plans difficult....and her past is catching up to her, which makes anyone she's close to a target.

I loved the secondary romance between Ben's mother Brooke and Sierra’s best friend and father figure Kent, I would have loved to have more of Brooke and Kent, it was fun and sweet to see Ben’s calm, too cool, and collected mom getting riled by Kent. I also loved Ben's budding relationship with his Grandmother Agatha and seeing Agatha getting the family she so desperately craved. We also get cameo's from Noah and Gracie (Too Much Temptation)....LOVE them!!!

After a slow start, it turned out to be a sweet read. I loved Ben in Too Much Temptation, and he remained true to himself with his snarky, sometimes pushy, but endearing ways. Sierra was a strong, determined women with an abusive past, and because of that she had a hard time letting Ben into her life to be her protector and confidant. Ben used his 'special skills' to convince her otherwise. Oh boy, and did he ever convince her! Very HOT! I enjoyed the secondary romance with Brooke, Ben's mother, and Kent, Sierra's helper. It fit nicely into the story line. We got to visit with Noah and Grace, who are still very much in love. Aggie who annoyed the heck out of me in TMT, actually won me over in this book. While not as good as the first one, it was still an enjoyable read.

The heroine in this book really killed my enjoyment of the book. She kept pushing away the hero almost the entire book because she was afraid her abusive ex-husband would try to "ruin" him. She did not act like someone who was abused in any other way. Plus I didn't buy that the abusive ex-husband would actually be able to call in loans and ruin so many people, things just don't work that way. I did like Too Much Temptation but this one was just disappointing, both the storyline and the love scenes.

was looking forward to reading Never Too Much. I ordered it from the library based upon the blurb. I wanted a sexy, fun read. I did not get that and ultimately, did not end up finishing Never Too Much. I stopped at the end of Chapter Four. Never Too Much didn't work for me and these are the reasons why:

Characters:

Ben Baldwin reminded me of a Matthew McConaughey type. Matthew McConaughy annoys the heck out of me every time he appears on the screen. (Okay, I don't know him personally, but I mean the type of roles he plays in movies.) Ben Baldwin is the guy who is sexy and knows it. He believes if he smiles women should bow down and worship him. But Ben is tired of easy and decides to pursue a woman who's more of a challenge. Enter our heroine. Ben decides to stalk, harass her, but because he's the hero of the story and he's cute and charming it okay that he keep pursuing a woman that's not interested in him.

I loved Sierra Murphy in the first chapter. She was strong, independent and tells him straight up that she isn't in the mood for his games. I was like, 'Yes. A strong, woman who can put up with this bull.' I couldn't wait to see the sparks fly between them as she put him in his place. Then I got to Chapter Two. Sierra Murphy turned from a strong, independent woman into an emotional pile of goo. I missed the strong heroine from the first chapter. She doesn't believe in herself, she didn't stand up for herself, and she let Ben control the situation. I felt really let down by the drastic switch in her personality. I mean I honestly. The tone of the first chapter of Never Too Much is totally different from the rest of the novel (at least what I read).

Chemisty:

I felt that Ben and Sierra had no chemistry. It annoyed me how they made assumptions about each other. Those assumptions didn't fit their characters to me. The internal narrative dragged and didn't feel natural. I personally couldn't believe that two strangers would suddenly delve into their deepest darkest secrets within an hour or two of meeting each other. They acted as if they had known each other for months instead of minutes.

I couldn't read anymore. Never Too Much didn't capture my attention enough to make me escape from reality and ignore all the other books I have on my too be read pile. However, I am just one person out of a trillion people in the world and what doesn't work for me, might work for you!

I've previously read several of Lori Foster's novellas, but Never Too Much was only the second of her full-length novels I've read. It is also the second book in her Brava Brothers series, with the first, Too Much Temptation, being the first of her novels I read. Despite seeming to be a fan favorite, that story was just OK for me, so I was pleasantly surprised to enjoy Never Too Much quite a bit more. There were two main reasons for this. First, I felt that the characterizations were more even and consistent this time around. And second, the supporting characters were much more likable, so I didn't mind the few POV scenes that they were given. On the downside, much like the first book of the series, the relationship between the hero and heroine of Never Too Much developed a little too quickly to be entirely believable to me, and the plot was pretty light and breezy, not digging particularly deep into the characters and their backstories. Despite this though, it was still an enjoyable read.

Ben was the only character from Too Much Temptation that I fully liked all throughout the novel, so I was hoping for a decent story for him. I'm happy to say that I wasn't disappointed. Ben quite simply loves and respects women. Maybe it's because he was raised by a single mom, but he can't get enough of them. He's a shameless flirt, who has had numerous affairs over the years, but even though the female employees at his motel and diner often come on to him very overtly, he draws the line at sleeping with any of them. Despite loving the ladies, Ben has never been in love, so no one is more surprised than he is when he starts having unfamiliar feelings for his new neighbor, Sierra. She's a cute, tom-boyish, girl-next-door which isn't usually his type either, but he just can't seem to get enough of her. Ben is ultra-confident and knows he's attractive, but he's bored by the ease with which he can have any woman he wants. He's ready to be challenged, and Sierra certainly does that with her mysterious past, her unwillingness to open up to him, and her seeming ability to resist him at first. In the beginning, Ben was a little too forward and sexually overt for my taste, but I couldn't deny that he had a certain charm about him. Ben may have the confidence of an alpha, but he's very sweet too. He's always willing to lend a helping hand, and he genuinely wants to protect Sierra and share her burdens. A couple of times, I thought he got a tad too pushy in trying to get her to open up, but most of the time, he was incredibly patient, gently coaxing her out. What I loved most about Ben though was his willingness and even eagerness to focus entirely on pleasuring Sierra, even denying himself, just to show her what a nice and sensitive guy he could be.

Sierra moved to Ben's hometown, looking for a new lease on life by starting her own landscaping business. She's a hard worker, who loves the outdoors, so it was a logical choice. Sierra has had a rough life, so when she finds out about Ben's brother, Noah's background, she can entirely relate. She has an independent spirit, but felt like all her choices were taken away, first by her controlling father, then an abusive husband. She finally feels like she's on solid footing when Ben comes into her life, trying to sweep her off her feet. A part of her enjoys the attention, but another part can't bring herself to trust him. However, she does trust her best friend, Kent, and while it was nice to know that she has someone looking out for her, it seemed a little unbalanced for her to rely on Kent but sometimes push Ben away. I felt like this lack of trust and her taking so long to open up to Ben put some emotional distance between them that made it a little harder to believe in their love. I understood the fear that kept her from revealing everything to Ben, and when she finally does, it was a touching scene. However, after that, I felt like things wrapped up a little too quickly and neatly to be compelling and fully satisfying, but it was still nice.

Never Too Much draws in several supporting characters, most of whom were introduced in Too Much Temptation. Noah and Grace, the hero and heroine of that book were there to support Ben and Sierra. There is also a secondary romance between Ben's mother, Brooke, and Sierra's best friend, Kent. I thought their relationship mirrored Ben and Sierra's in that Brooke was rather reluctant to get involved, while Kent is almost a carbon copy of Ben in his sweetly seductive, yet confident alpha ways. These two get a few of their own POV scenes to show the progression of their romance. I thought it was really cute the way Kent was all mooney-eyed over Brook in the final chapter. Kent's daughter, who was mentioned but not introduced, will be the heroine of the wrap-up novella for the series, The Christmas Present. Last but certainly not least was Ben's grandmother, Agatha. I really hadn't liked her much in Too Much Temptation, but it seems she has finally lightened up a little. She has definitely grown and changed since the last book, and I can honesty say I liked her in this one. It was really heart-warming how Ben's whole family came together in the end to protect Sierra and support her relationship with Ben.

I have to admit that I was somewhat conflicted on how to rate Never Too Much. There were parts of it that I enjoyed thoroughly, like Ben's flirtatiousness, seductiveness and unrelenting focus on Sierra's pleasure. On the other hand, there were things, most of which I've already mentioned, like Sierra's trust issues and the short time frame in which the story takes place that kept it from being a five-star book. Still, it almost would have received keeper status from me, except that at times, I found my mind wandering while reading, which tends to mean I'm not fully engaged. In the end, I settled on 4 stars, but I can say without reservation that it was a solid 4 stars, perhaps even a tiny bit higher. Anyone who is looking for a light, easy read that is also sweet and very sexy should enjoy it.

3.5 stars
This is the story of Ben, a happy go-lucky Ladies man, who loves women, his mother and doesn't give a shit about his dead-beat's father's wealth. The hero doesn't count on his new neighbour turning his life upside down. He finds himself very interested in her, but she wants nothing to do with him or any other man and wants to build her business. You see the heroine has a horrible abusive ex-husband to contend with and doesn't want anyone else being affected. There is also a nice romance for the hero's mother. I liked how the the heroine without even trying laid this ladies-man low.

I debated between 3.5 and 4 stars because there wasn't much sex! There was plenty of sexual tension, a good start to the sexiness, then a long section in the middle of the book that advanced the plot. Don't get me wrong, plot was good and secondary characters were good (loved the Kent/Brooke story), but a lot of the sexual tension was lost because there just wasn't any sex. I'm okay with dragging it out, or giving us just a little, but none? Foster has written other books with a lot more sex so I found this one a little disappointing compared to my expectations.

As a side note, I have not read the first Temptation Brothers and plan to do so as soon as it comes in at the library. I don't think it matters that I read them out of order, but I'll comment more on that after I read the first one.

So heartily disappointed in this book. The main reason I gave it two stars instead of one is because I usually reserve 1-star rating for books I can’t even bother to finish because they are bad, and this book at least read quickly.

Within the first dozen pages, the “hero” “negs” our female protagonist, deliberately criticizing her appearance because he’s annoyed that she isn’t showing any interest in ACTUALLY having sex with him though she straight up admits that he’s hot. So sure, tear her down a bit, that’s ALWAYS such a great response when you don’t get what you want out of a woman!

The rest of the book focuses heavily on him not giving the main character the space she requests, using her sexual inexperience against her, and ignoring her choices because he thinks he knows better than she does, though she makes it very clear she’s already got a history of abusive and controlling men. But sure, he’s the “hero”, so that makes it acceptable. 🤦🏼‍♀️

I’m so heartbroken to see Lori Foster writing abuse as acceptable in her stories now. I’ve always enjoyed those male protagonists who truly WERE alpha men, and Ben Badwin is not one of them.

I’d have liked to see a fully fleshed out story for Kent and Brooke instead of trying to shoe-horn their HEA into this pseudo-romance between Ben & Sierra.

I’m very frustrated also by the way L. Foster seems to be trying to shove multiple romances into a single book now, instead of giving us the focused writing on well-fleshed-out characters like she used to do. She’s got too many people trying to do their thing in these newer novels, and a major decline in real quality storytelling, and I’m starting to wonder if I should continue to bother with her books. They certainly aren’t “instant-buy” for me the way they once were.

Dissatisfaction all around.

Spoilers Below!

I became enamored with Lori Foster reading her Love Undercover and Men Who Walk the Edge of Honor series. I loved the alpha lead men and the drama. However, the more Lori Foster novels I read the less enamored I become. It seems like with each novel there is less and less actual story and more sex. I like hot stories as much as the next gal, but give me a little story to set the mood!

I think the plot was interesting enough. Woman running away from her past, Sierra, moves in across the street from motel owner and all around God's gift to women, Ben. Sierra has an abusive ex-husband who has family in powerful places. She is trying her best to keep him from hurting the people she loves. Ben is looking for a challenge. He is tired of easy women who throw themselves at him with little effort from him.

Sierra and Ben meet and immediately begin a sexual relationship despite Sierra's reservations. Within a couple of weeks, they are in love but fighting it. Sierra's ex shows up and makes a few threats. The problem is that the threat of the ex-husband never really feels like a big deal. Everything happens so fast. The second time he interacts with Sierra, the story is already over!

Add in a little subplot romance between Sierra's best friend and Ben's mother and you have your novel. I felt that the whole story was incredibly formulaic, unsurprising and rushed. It had a lot of potential but the execution was poor.

And...this is why Lori Foster will remain one of my favorite authors of all time! I absolutely loved this book. I've read other reviews and have to say that I am shocked by some of them. I absolutely loved Ben. I didn't think he was too pushy. I thought it was actually sweet the way he realized that love had sneaked up on him, completely unexpectedly. For those who said that Sierra didn't seem like a real victim of abuse...get real. Not all victims express themselves or behave the same way. I have known victims of abuse. And, I know women who behaved very similarly to Sierra. Stop trying to put people in a box!

Overall, I thought the story moved in a great direction and at a good pace. It had enough sex scenes to be a sexy love story, but not quite an erotic novel. I enjoyed watching the relationships develop between the leading and supporting characters. And, I'll definitely be reading the next book in the series.

I was easily looking at a 3-4 star rating through most of the book. Ben was really ticking me off. Pushing too hard. When he was losing patience, he said things he shouldn't. And the over the top, way too much, constant flirt. I knew Sierra right off the bat. She is a woman we all know. And admire. In the end, Sierra helped me to fall for Ben too. Conditionally. haha I loved the way the whole story wound up, the family and all. I had been looking for someone to be off to the side, eyeing Aggie. Perhaps a long time servant, neighbor, driver, assistant, something. Someone that had known all along that she had a giant sized heart. But Aggie had always kept it closed up tight. It was kind of sad that she wound up alone. But the rest of the story and two book series was wonderful. Loved it. Highly recommended.

I thought that the writing was good, but there were a number of very disturbing lines in the novel with regards to acceptable behavior. Things like (and I'm paraphrasing, but I'll dig up the quote at some point,) "if any other man did that to her, it would be awful - but he was different. He could do it because he knew he wasn't like that". Ben felt he was entitled to treat Sierra however he wished, because his intentions were good. He could back her into a corner and manipulate her into doing things, because really - he meant well.
And that didn't sit right with me.
I thought the author had a decent handle on the mechanics of the novel (the set-up for the ending tidily wrapped up conflict for Agatha as well as Ben/Sierra), but the tone and implications may keep me from reading anything else by her.

Holy hell I think this may be Lori Foster's hottest book, and I was so not expecting that! The first book in this series Noah's story, was hot and sexy, but Ben's story, oh my.
Ben is such a complete alpha, so dominating and almost a little controlling. He loves women, and they love him. Until he meets Sierra he's not had much difficulty convincing a woman to spend some time with him, hell I don't think he ever had to do any convincing But Sierra's not like anyone else he's met before and that completely intrigues him and she beomes a challenge.
And challenging she is. Sierra has secrets that she's not willing to share, and Ben works hard to break through her defenses.
I really like all the characters we've met in this series, once again Ms. Foster has created a group of people- family and friends, and a little town I want to be a part of.

This was better than the first one. After having read this one, I think I can say that reason I didn't like the first as much was because of Noah. I enjoyed reading this one more because Ben was more entertaining and he was funnier.

I also like Sierra, she was the type of character that tries to protect everyone more than she tries to protect herself. Her interactions with Ben were really amusing. I also thought that one surprising aspect was the story between Ben's mom Brooke and Sierra's friend Kent. That was sort of thrown in as a side story, but I think it would have played out well as it's own story.

I was book floundering. Do you ever do that? Pick up a book, start it, put it aside because it's just not holding your interest? So, after doing that to two books, I finally went to one of my go to author's, Lori Foster, and read this book. Yay! I was no longer floundering. I was a bit apprehensive after reading some of the reviews, but I liked this book. I didn't think Sierra held Ben off too much, in fact sometimes I thought he got a little too pushy and she should have held him off more. But all in all, I enjoyed this book. Sex scenes are pretty smokin' too.

I liked Ben much better in Noah's book. Ben was all 'I'm not going to push you' and 5 seconds later he starts pushing. He was overly aggressive (and not in that sexy alpha male way) and he kept thinking how much he loves and respects all women and then wouldn't listen to what Sierra had to say. Yes, in the long run he was good for Sierra, but I did not like him at all in the beginning. While it was well written, Kent and Aggie were the best part of this book. And of course, Noah and Grace being present was awesome (I could have used more of them).

Maybe it was just me. But this book was really kind of blah. It seems as if Ms. Foster tried to add a level of depth to the book with Sierra's challenges with Griff but sadly this book missed the mark. It lacked the bite of some of the other books. The conflict was not complex enough to keep me interested in the story. It was an okay read but nothing to write home about, IMO.

Wow big difference from book 1, and not in a good way! Don't get me wrong, this was an ok book but it lacked passion, excitement, and the girl just annoyed me. The guy was made to look like a complete ho. It just didn't work for me like book 1 did.

Cheers to another book that checked all my boxes!

I truly enjoyed the first book of this series, but the second one was even better. Sierra and Ben were fabulous together. I mean, what an entertaining couple! The strong, independent women paired with the men who could have any women of his choice. Always a great combo!

As always, Lori Foster just knows how to make a great story. Every element I love to find in a romance book were there. The intriguing meeting moment, the ''let's get to know each other'' part, the ''dark secret reveal'' portion and the ''I think I like you (a lot)'' one.

This story was pure perfection with a lot of spice! Let's say it, I love my book spicy and Lori knows how to incorporate it without it being out of place. I really loved this book!

Finally, I strongly recommend Never Too Much to any lover of love!

Happy Reading xx

Awesome read

Great story. I love that Ben got a wonderful woman like Sierra. He deserves her and she most definitely deserves a loving and protective man like Ben. Agatha finally learned how to have her grandsons in her life and have a great family atmosphere. The situation that Sierra got herself out of and the resulting stalking is topical and something that a lot of women have been through. The secondary romance between Brooke and Kent is sweet and really adds extra enjoyment to reading this book. I would recommend this story to any adult reader who enjoys sexy, hot romances.
