Provides visual explanations and simple exercises to build painting skills, and offers eight projects highlighting different subjects from the planning stage to the completed painting
Useful book. Did not need so many examples of artisit. More information regarding techniques, supplies, brush types and strokes would've been a benefit.
Great book overall for the beginner to the more experienced painter. This book has a little bit of everything, and demonstrates techniques with beautiful color taking you through each picture step by step in stages. Would recommend.
The book progresses through a series of projects with excellent descriptions accompanying each. I like the way the author demonstrates many of the techniques by having two artists each attempt the same scene.
Good range of topics and descriptions. Suitable for beginners. Started out very good, but by the end was more complicated than I was talented. I had it as a library book. If I wanted to try all of the concepts, I would have to by it and treat it as a reference.
Good instruction on working a variety of techniques including wet on wet, dry brush, spattering, sponge painting, lifting, wax resist and backruns. Many of these are shown with step-by-step photos. A large variety of artwork by different artists are included in the illustrations.
This is one of the best watercolor instruction books out there. When I first started teaching myself how to paint in watercolors, I checked it out from the library many times. Our library has a ton of art books, so I didn't want to buy it at the time. I may purchase it in the future, though, to have in my own art library. But I would highly recommend it!
Messier and more impressionistic than I'd like. Personal taste? I dutifully read it cover to cover, but found the pictures washed out and just messy, to the point of being unable to comprehend 50% of the pictures. Maybe someone else would like her style . . .
