Bonnet Girls: Patterns of the Past

Rate this book
Bonnets evoke the mystique of a bygone day. If you cherished paper dolls as a child, these charming quilt block designs will bring back delightful memories. Choose from 15 Bonnet Girls, their children, menfolk, and pets and create a family. Depict movement and different scenes by simply changing the positions of bonnets, arms, hands, and legs. More than 30 props - hats, parasols, flowers, animals, and background settings - are interchangeable. Add lace, ribbons, beads, cords, and tassels for a sparkling finish. Lend a sense of weather by quilting wind, raindrops, snowflakes, or clouds. Included are more than a dozen background quilting designs - all suited for traditional applique, redwork, and embroidery.

If you want to make a quilt (or runner, or wall hanging or anything else quilted) with bonnet girls, this books is amazing. You can find it on Amazon for under $15.00, (as of 2022) and it includes patterns for 19 bonnet girls, and several dozen peripheral patterns - for example, the pattern for Isabella is a Christmas block, and it includes a small child, as well as a Christmas tree and ornaments and a pile of presents. Miss Janet is a teacher, with a pointer, a blackboard and two intricately designed children. If you go to the Bonnet Girls website, a pattern for one lady with minimal embellishment is over $6.00 each. Ms. Scott's books pay for themselves after only a couple of blocks. In addition to the blocks themselves, there are sections on fabrics, positioning, embroidery and joining! I'm so happy to have found this book!

Miss King, my desperate needlework teacher, would be surprised at how much I have remembered of what she taught me!
There are few more enjoyable activities than creating a picture out of fabric and this book is not only beautifully illustrated but also offers clear guidelines on how to create a masterpiece.
