Since a lot of the fantasy books base characters loosely off fairy tale characters, I decided to read this just for fun. I also realized, I’d never read the Grimm versions and was curious. This was entertaining and a short, easy read. I’d heard the real versions of most fairy tales were pretty dark and these were definitely darker than the ones I remember growing up but I liked them. First story was a bit weird (the boy who learns how to be afraid) but overall, this was fun to read.

Dibandingkan kakaknya, si anak laki-laki ini sering kali membuat segala urusan jadi berantakan. Alhasil, si ayah tidak pernah menyuruh anak ini untuk melakukan apapun. Si adik mulai berpikir, mengapa kakaknya sering dipercayai oleh ayah. Suatu ketika, ia melihat kakak dan tetangganya ketakutan saat mendengarkan cerita yang mengerikan. Si anak mulai berpikir,

Karena ini versi retold, saya belum membaca yang versi aslinya. Hanya saja ada beberapa fakta unik yang saya temukan di buku ini, seperti nama Rapunzel yang diambil dari nama selada,

She saw a beautiful patch of rapunzel, a delicious kind of lettuce

Atau sepatu Cinderella yang selama ini saya anggap terbuat dari kaca, ternyata di buku ini dikatakan bahwa sandal/selop ini ditaburi emas,

Another fine dress fell down to her, and this time also received slippers covered in gold

Cukup mudah dipahami bahasa inggrisnya^^

Wow. So that's what the stories were really about. I had heard rumors but now I know. Great stories, and darker than you'd expect.
