Lara Richardson's boyfriend is a conceited jerk. Still, he is her jerk and a popular DJ at a downtown Chicago nightclub, which does give a girl some advantages. Torn between an unfulfilling relationship and not wanting to be alone, Lara settles, only to find that one year later she is miserable. Then Lara meets her new roommate, a gorgeous photographer from Paris who seems to understand her better than anyone, including herself. Lara soon realizes that she wants more, in every possible way, only discovering her mistake too late when a secret from Rene's past causes him to leave. Laughter, tears and meltdowns ensue as Lara's friends try to help her by conspiring to bring Rene back into her life. It is only when Lara discovers that her heart will never forget that she understands what she must do; only now Rene is gone and it may be too late.
