ATTENTION: Occasionally a title or two will show up in my list of published books that are not mine but are written by another author by the same name. I write clean romance and many of her titles are erotica. This is NOT cool and I have no idea why this keeps happening. If you are unsure about which titles are mine, please visit my Amazon page. https://www.amazon.com/Jewel-Adams/e/...
I think 3/4 of the book was just the two main characters gushing about how much they loved each other/were soulmates/wouldn't live without each other/couldn't imagine being apart for more than 5 minutes without missing the other..... etc, etc, mushy gushy. Ugh. Not my cup of tea. The plot was a little weak, too.
I spent Saturday evening curled up with J. Adams' newest release The Wishing Hour. Here's a synopsis:
Celine Anderson lives an average solitary life, sticking to routine, never taking chances, and never experiencing true love. All of this changes when a handsome immortal enters her life. She has never laid eyes on the man before, but she somehow knows him and instantly trusts him completely. Placing her life in his hands, Celine is taken on an unexpected journey and learns of an ancient prophecy she is to take part in. And her immortal guardian is intent on protecting her against those who would see her fail. He has been chosen for this calling and it is his sacred duty to keep her safe–to see the prophecy fulfilled at all cost. If they fail, it will change the world as they know it.
This book is a romantic fantasy, combining some of the elements we all know make the heart go pitty-pat - element of danger, woman in need of protection, gorgeous and muscular protector dressed in black leather (oh, come on, you know black leather makes the heart go pitty-pat, and there's no use pretending it doesn't) and ties them up together in a story of deep and eternal love and bonds that can't be broken by distance or circumstance or even by death. It's a quick read - I think I polished it off in a couple of hours - and it keeps you moving from page to page at a pretty good clip. And while it was romantic, everything was presented in a tasteful way.
If I were to point out anything that I didn't like, I might have enjoyed a few pages more about Celine's life before she met the gorgeous protector. Her life is completely changed by him, and I would have liked to see more of the before so I could draw that comparison. I also would have liked it to be a little longer here and there with more explanations and details. But overall, I enjoyed it very much. The descriptions of the furniture and the countryside made me want to go traveling - or house hunting, I couldn't decide which - and the descriptions of food made me hungry. And as I have already said, it definitely made my heart go pitty-pat.
Perfect hero. Perfect heroine. Perfect couple. Perfect love story.
All of that is true actually. But there is only one problem: Everything is perfect. No angst. No disagreements. No normal couple issues. Just one big perfect existence. Okay, there are some bad creatures and even one or two bad people of the hero's kind. But otherwise all is just dandy.
I actually did like this book. Sebastian (the hero) is described as a towering man.... long, black silky hair. Italian. All those who know me know that I have a thing for black hair and Italian men. So I had this picture in my head of what Sebastian looked like. This helped with all of the perfectness... :) Celine (the heroine) is described as a tall, beautiful black woman who has a pretty dull and routine life until Sebastian rescues her from a bit of danger and from her lonely existence. Sebastian is a guardian...... a protector, who was chosen by THE ONE to guard the Woman of Prophecy, who just happens to be Celine, though she isn't yet aware of that fact.
The rest of the story is basically Sebastian protecting Celine and the two of them fall in love VERY quickly. Other things happened (like the entire point of Celine needing protecting) but I don't want to spoil it.
If you are looking for a truly sappy love story where neither the male or female main characters can do any wrong, this is the one for you. It has been awhile since I've read a good, sappy love story so that could be why I liked this one so much. Or it could explain WHY I haven't read a good, sappy love story in a long time.
Celine Anderson, leads a mundane and solitary life, adhering to a strict routine and never taking risks or experiencing true love. However, her life takes an unexpected turn when she encounters a handsome immortal, a man she has never met before but feels an inexplicable connection to, instantly trusting him completely.
This enigmatic immortal becomes Celine's guardian and guide, revealing to her an ancient prophecy in which she plays a pivotal role. Celine's life is now intertwined with this prophecy, and her guardian is committed to protecting her from those who wish to see her fail. Together, they embark on an extraordinary journey to fulfill the prophecy, facing challenges and adversaries along the way. The fate of the world hangs in the balance, and their success or failure will have profound consequences for the world they know.
The insta-love apect in the story was quite problematic for me. It felt rushed and forced, lacking the depth and development that a genuine romantic connection should have. This insta-love element left me somewhat disconnected from the characters and their relationship.
The overall plot of the story felt rather weak and underdeveloped. It lacked the intricate layers and complexity that typically make a narrative engaging. It failed to fully captivate my attention or immerse me in the world the author was trying to create.
Celine meets a strange man one night when he comes to her rescue against her abusive neighbor. She trusts him immediately. There is something about him that calls to her. He whisks her away to safety. She is the Woman of Prophecy and the one to save Sebastian’s people. He is her protector and her mate. He has saved her on several occasions while hiding in Italy. He wants to take her to his home. After they perform the bonding ceremony they head to Sebastian’s home. She is welcomed with open arms as she settles in her new home and her role. However the Urchins are still looking for her and her life is in danger until the prophecy is fulfilled. Sebastian takes his role as her protector very seriously. In fact when her life is threatened, he helps close in on the traitor among them. I had a hard time getting into this book. I like the relationship between Celine and Sebastian. They made an awesome couple. The plot, unfortunately, seemed one-dimensional to me. The writing didn’t always flow. I also would be reading and then skip chunks of the story. I wanted to see how it ended, but it didn’t grab my interest and I casually read the story. It was nothing to write home about. For me the story was just all right. I give it a 3 out of 5.
True mates with the destiny of fulfilling the prophesy together. Sebastian has spent the better part of his immortal life watching over and protecting Celine in the mortal world until one day she becomes a part of his immortal world. It is his duty to protect her because she is the one who will bring into life the Golden child. Eventually, Sebastian discovers he and Celine are bonded together, true mates for eternity. But evil Lord Dearth would have his way, trying to kill Celine to prevent the Golden Child from being born. If the child is born, evil is banished.
What a stud of a man Sebastian is. Protector and lover, devoted to Celine alone. It's all mushy, flowery spoken words and passion that sizzles. I loved that this book was clean, and by that I mean no offensive language or sexual details. The couple is married before being intimate.
I loved the feelings of loyalty and respect to spouses and family, of being true to and protecting those you love and what you believe even to death.
My thanks to Jewel Adams for allowing me to read and review her book. It was a pleasure. This is a story any romance lover will enjoy!
This book fell completely flat for me. It has an interesting synopsis which is why I downloaded it but the story just doesn't play out very well. There is no excitement in this book, no passion (and I'm not just talking about the bedroom kind). It all seems quite stilted and for me, the writing style was questionable to say the least.
The main female in it, Celine, lives a life by herself; so much so that no one will notice when she literally just disappears one night without taking anything with her apart from her handbag. The male lead is nearly 8 feet tall and gorgeous but he just doesn't connect with the reader. Celine basically just accepts everything that is told her from the minute Sebastien enters her life. Doesn't question anything. Is happy to bond with him straight away, get taken away from everyone and everything that she knows with no qualms or second thoughts at all.
By the time it came to the finale, I really didn't care who had done what, I just wanted to finish the book.
I really can't think of anyone I would recommend this book to. But this is just my opinion - you may read it and enjoy it. I certainly hope someone does.
Celine Anderson lives a pretty ordinary life of working with the elderly and taking care of her cat. That is until she lays eyes on Sebastian. From the moment she saw the immortal she felt the connection and knew that she could trust him and follow him around the world as he fought to protect her so that she could fulfill the prophecy.
J. Adams' "The Wishing Hour" is a refreshing, endearing love story centering around the meshing of two totally different worlds for the greater good. This is a well paced story that will hold your attention with action and intrigue as the mystery of the deception unfolds and the truth is revealed. I recommend this story to readers of all genres. It was a romance novel with an underlying science fiction plot that was not overbearing. Those who do not normally read science fiction will be pleased that they gave "The Wishing Hour" a chance.
let me first say thati really appreciate the author writing a romance novem that was clean. it was a nice refreshing change. I really liked the premise of the story, but what really bothered me was the writing style. I believe the intent was that the character's are telling their story, but it came across very formal and detracted from me building a relationship with the characters. Then at some point the story really lost me. im still not.clear on how a grown woman allows herself to be kidnapped by a stranger, who she loves instantly kept jn the dark about his intentions, and discover that zombie-lkke creatures wantded to kill hrer. i would liken this story to mary and jospeh traveling to Bethleham. I got the religious tone, but really Iwas waiting for the heroine to wake in the psych ward realizjng that loss parents caused her to fall into a deep depression which led to a mental break. I must be a heathen cause really it got a little far fetched.
Very cute book with an interesting storyline. Celine is the key to a prophecy and Sebastian is her protector, who plays an important role in fulfilling the prophecy.
I would have liked a little more character development, but I love books that are character driven. The beginning is a bit redundant. Yes, we KNOW she totally trust this stranger she has never met before and she runs off with him. We get this repeated over and over and over at the beginning of the book. Please give the reader credit of remembering something that they just read 5 mins earlier.
I also thought the "twist" (who dunnit) wasn't really believable because I didn't think there was much of a motive for the "mole". But this again probably comes down to character development.
It was a fun, easy book to read for a lazy afternoon.
My Mom bought a copy of this book from an author's table at the Magna Library Grand Opening. She's been passing it around to all of my sisters, we all love a clean fantasy/romance. I had a hard time breaking through the veil of disbelief in the beginning. It was if the heroine didn't exist until the day the story started, and considering how flat the description of her life is that's probably a good thing. There are some incredibly creative concepts in the story and the twists kept coming. It's also got an interesting tense shift, in chapters with the main character it's in first person but the other chapters are all third person. All in all, I would say this it's a promising start but still needs some trade craft to polish it up.
Okay, this was an Amazon freebie, I got a while back. Disclaimer: Lately, I’ve been in a slump where I felt I needed to pick up something new, something unassociated with any authors I’ve been used to, as I’m dying for certain books to come out already.
Having said that, this basically sums The Wishing Hour up: Celine is average; she never takes chances, she sticks to her routine and all this gets thrown off when a cute cute enters her life. Story of every girl’s life… just sayin’, boys. Only, he’s immortal. She doesn’t know him, but she recognizes something and trusts him. First, I’ll say this reminds me of the Eden series by Nicole Williams. I didn’t care much for that series, not I can say much difference here either.
Tifferz Take: I had the privilege of getting a advanced reader copy of this amazing book. The Wishing Hour is an fun action packed fantasy romance that will leave you satisfied. I was drawn into the story quickly and could not put it down. The plot was fully developed.
J. Adams has a eye for detail and I felt like I was right with Celine and Sebastian on this dangerous romantic adventure. I really loved, loved the bonding ceremony. It was so powerful. The Wishing Hour is a clean read! I highly recommend this book to those who love fantasy, adventure and romance. This book is a keeper and I will be reading it again.
This was a true romance, a wonderful love story and different from any story of bonded mates I've ever read. Miss Adams is truly talented touches the heart, there are moments of laughter, sadness and joy, what a true romance should have.
I have to admit to being disappointed that the woman had to change in looks, she seemingly went from being a black woman to a white woman and the thought that she never truly felt beautiful until she changed. I would feel the same if I was reading about a white heroine who turned black. I didn't read too enthusiastically after her change, it was still a very good story though.
I do wish I could ask Miss. Adams why the heroine needed to change.
Honestly I really liked this book. Its a bit strange when you start getting into it and I have to admit I was a little confused but everything came out right in the end. It was a pretty awesome book all the adventure was great but what really interested me was the cheese! I mean seriously! It was just a mountain of cheesy moments in this book it was unbeliveable! I thought it was really cute although it could have probably used a bit more detail but other than that I loved it! I would really recomend it to you if you like cheese and sci-fy.
I loved the idea behind this book, it was very interesting. It's also the first romance novel I have ever read with a black heroine, which was a refreshing change. :) However, the story went by so fast, too fast really. I felt there could have been a lot more to it. I wish there had been more, it went by too quick and I wasn't able to really get emotionally involved with the characters like I love to. It was well written and besides from not so great formatting on the Kindle, it was a very good book.
I never could get into this book. It was one huge monologue about this woman and how lonely she was before meeting this man and how great her life is now that she has meant him. The author would give these peep shows into the man's history of his people and then go back to feelings. It's fine to state once in a while how the characters are feeling but there was just way to much of that going on. The idea was there it was set and it worked, it just wasn't opened up all the way, and I think even the author had no idea how to put this idea completely down on paper. I do not recommend this book.
I've had an absurd amount of problems with this book. Editing and narration shifts aside, the plot was far too unreliable for me to swallow and the heavy religious overtone of the whole book just didn't sit right with me. I do like the premise, but the execution left me wanting and frankly, annoyed. If you are in the market for a clean perfect romance without any dissension, then The Wishing Hour is for you...I wish it were for me.
Great. Enjoyed the author's superb talent. However, did not know she is LDS. And that explains some of what appears different. The romantic notion of a 'true mate', for example. The idea that a man who is so polite and so tender, so thoughtful and so brave would not be draining, is unrealistic. Nonetheless, if there are more books about the amazing world of Challis, I will definitely be reading them.
This was a sweet read, I loved the romance and love that the characters had for each other. Jewel Adams is a great author; this is the first of her books I have read. I'm really looking forward to reading her other books. The Wishing Hour is especially a good read for those of you that enjoy romance but not the smut. I recommend it!
This was alright. I didn't care for the beginning. The way this woman instantly trusts and blindly goes with this strange guy. Yes, I get that it's part of the plot, but it just seemed incredulous to me. As the story progressed I found myself liking it more and more. By the end, I was pretty involved with the characters.
Fantasy Book about a young Girl Whose has a Destiny Or Prophesy she is unaware of and a protector who's job is to make sure the prophesy is fullfilled. Dark forces follow and all hell breaks loose in order for this Prophesy not come true. Call them Angels or whatever..and the Mystical Land sounds alot like Heaven. Took me a few days to read . Its is ok .,,but not what I call a Great Read!!
I loved this book! It was pretty short and I read it in a few hours but it was great! Made me smile and laugh out loud at times. Celine and Sebastian's love was amazing! I would love to see another book about them and their life with Marcello! So glad I found this book! So glad the author wrote it! Seriously good. I might have to check out some of her other stuff now!
The synopsis of this book sounded really interesting and its the kind of story I would normally read. However, the writing style wasn't really to my liking and I didn't feel any connection to the main characters at all. The love story was really bland and the evil subplot didn't make any sense at all. So sadly this book didn't rate very well for me.
I thought I had rated this on goodreads before, and was quite surprise to see I hadn't. I really enjoyed this book. Celine had a normal life, not expecting much else but to do what she's always done, when suddenly everything changes! I liked that the romance was clean, and that they respected each other, showing this by not jumping into intimacy too soon.
I really enjoyed this book, even though it's more romance than I normally read. I am not really into that. I did enjoy the creative concepts about the Challisian people and their world very much, fantasy is definitely more my thing!
It was good, but everything was too perfect. And the romantic stuff went a little over board. There was (dare I say it) too MUCH romance that sort of got in the way of the story. But other wise it was a good book really interesting
I think with some editing this could be a better book. Too much "wiping eyes" and I knew I was reading much of the time. I liked the idea very much and the writing was ok- it just needed an editor to spruce it up
Short, light, syrupy romance. Long living guardian called to protect a woman to fulfill a prophecy. Author has a talent for description, but is written like a short-story. Which is not bad when you want something light to read.
This wasn't a long book and seemed pretty simple in the storyline. The writing was a bit juvenile for the age of the characters. Still, I enjoyed the Christian symbolism. 2.5-3 stars.
