Dear Reader, You won't believe what's happened. My son Tulane has come back home! You remember Tulane? He'd set out to find fame and fortune in the big, wide world outside of Last Chance, and I'm mighty proud. But that's not the half of it-Tulane isn't only back, he's brought a young lady with him. Now Sarah-she does PR for Tulane's stock-car team-she's from Boston, but she's just about the sweetest girl you could meet. I think she's meant to keep Tulane out of trouble after that story in the papers, but he doesn't want to talk about it. Anyhow, the Ladies Auxiliary can't wait to start matchmaking and introduce Sarah to our Reverend Ellis. But mark my words, Sarah is tired of being a good girl. And no one is better at breaking the rules and raising Cain than my son . . . Listen to me going on and keeping customers waiting. I best get back to work, but you come round again. The Cut 'n' Curl's got hot rollers, free coffee, and the best gossip in town. See you real soon, Ruby Rhodes
Hope Ramsay is a USA Today bestselling author of heartwarming contemporary romances, set below the Mason-Dixon Line. Her children are grown, but she has a beloved fur baby, Daisy the Cockapoo who keeps her entertained. Hope lives in the medium-sized town of Fredericksburg, Virginia and when she’s not writing or walking the dog, she spends her time knitting and noodling around on her collection of guitars.
This was a fun book with some quirky characters. Tulane is a rookie NASCAR driver who is having some problems keeping out of trouble. It doesn't help that his main sponsor is a diaper company, his car is pink with a bunny logo, and the team is stuck wearing pink too. He also has to judge diaper changing contests during his public appearances. This causes some frayed tempers and now he has a representative from the company making sure he's behaving himself. Sarah has always been a back office researcher not a field person, so she's a little lost to start with. Once she gets the hang of it she starts doing a great job. She also starts noticing just how hot that southern bad boy is and wants to shed her good girl image.
Sarah was a sweet girl who was a bit out of her league in the shark tank of her PR firm. She's so good at her job that one of her coworkers steals her ideas. In a failed attempt at revenge, Sarah ends up riding herd on southern bad boy Tulane. I loved seeing her initial attempts to get him to behave and how amused Tulane was by her. When she ended up in his home town with him she got a whole new viewpoint on what makes him tick. Now she has to keep her promises to him about his family at the same time the head shark wants her digging up dirt on Tulane. Spending as much time together as they do has Sarah wanting to lose her good girl image and live a little on the wild side. I loved seeing her attempts and how that good girl never quite goes away. I really liked seeing the Boston lady get sucked into the whole southern experience. She was terrific with the people of Last Chance and able to show Tulane a different way at looking at them. It was also an interesting comparison to her own family and background. I really enjoyed the way she stood up for herself on "the morning after". I loved her part in the whole miniature gold course issue. There's a bunch of lying and cheating going on with the PR people that Sarah gets caught in the middle of before she's able to sort out her feelings and deal with her own actions.
Tulane is an interesting mixture. He's got some immaturity issues going on with the way he is dealing with his dislike of his sponsor's requirements. But he is also a good and pretty softhearted guy under it all. He's not at all happy that they've sent someone to keep him in line because he really hates what he has to do. He detests his pink car and bunny logo and dealing with idiotic diaper changing contests. He feels it's a real insult to his manhood. He starts out trying to make things really difficult for Sarah, but pretty soon finds himself really amused by her. He loves watching her blush when he cusses and sputter when he says sexy things. He's not happy when they end up back in his hometown and she gets exposed to some of his more interesting family members. He's worked very hard at keeping his family out of the public eye. They think he's ashamed of them, but mostly he just wants to protect them from ridicule by people who don't understand them. He basically blackmails Sarah into keeping his secrets. I really enjoyed seeing the way that he had such a good time with Sarah as they started getting to know each other. I also liked seeing how being around Sarah started to tone down his "bad boy" side as he tried to be a better man for her. There were some rough moments at the end when he believed what he had been told rather than what his heart told him was the truth. He did a great job with his apology and groveling.
Contented, happy sigh. I enjoyed returning to Last Chance, and fell in love with Tulane alongside Sarah! I'm happy to continue reading this series. Last Chance would be a fun place to live.
Of course it was going to get fast and frenzied with a NASCAR driver from the small town South and a PR gal from buttoned up Boston clashing on a marketing tour. I anticipated the fireworks that were gonna fly and I got them in a laid-back small town romance opposites attract style.
Home at Last Chance is book two of the Last Chance series of Contemporary Romance standalones.
The early books feature the four Rhodes siblings finding their way to love and this time it’s the youngest brother, Tulane’s turn. Tulane is a hot-tempered impulsive type, but a talented stock car driver so getting him, his car, and his crew wrapped in baby pink and sponsored by a diaper business sets him off well and good. And, boy howdy, does Sarah gets this better than Tulane Rhodes can even know. She set out to get some revenge against the petty tyrant in her marketing firm office who stole her ideas and that silly fake marketing idea took off with Tulane the one feeling the sting. But, in the seat next to her is sexy bad boy, Tulane Rhodes who has some demons to fight before he realizes smart, sweet Sarah who has her own acceptance issues might be his long-shot win.
As with other books in this series, I really appreciate how Hope Ramsay can take a light and sexy small town romance full of quirky characters to also make it a romance with layers and depth. Tulane and Sarah spend a good part of this book acting out and being immature so that they are on the verge more than one of blowing up their careers and much more in their lives. They both aren’t comfortable in their own skin and need to figure it all out which causes them screw up personally and together. I liked that we got to see them fall, but end up helping each other through their individual crises.
Part of the story is on the marketing tour and at the track, but I was glad that a great deal of it was back in Last Chance where the Rhodes family crazy with a few seeing angels, daddy’s Golfing for God mini golf course still riling things, sibling pranks and having each other’s backs, matchmaking Miriam’s obscure and zany predictions, and the rest of the church crew of gossiping ladies along with mama Ruby at the heart really made the book sparkle. There are side plots as a result of so well-developed secondary characters and some resolve while others carry over to other books. But, Tulane and Sarah are not overshadowed by it all and they are the central figures of the book. Only disappointment was I wish there had been an actual NASCAR race scene after Tulane got things straightened out that would have made Uncle Pete and the rest of Tulane’s family and friends proud. Still, the prep to the big race was cool. All in all, another good one and I’m glad I came back for these earlier books in the Last Chance series. Smalltown Romance lovers should definitely give them a go.
My full review will post at Books of My Heart Oct 1st.
Another charming, funny, romantic book in the Last Chance series. Many of the same quirkly characters of course return in the second book, and the Cut & Curl is still the center for gossip, but the circumstances and plot are completely different. I can't wait to read the next book in the series.
"Home At Last" takes a while to get going - at the start it is fairly typical tale of an over-the-top male and a reserved librarian/researcher female. There's a nice descriptive piece about Miriam Randall's home - it took me back to my early teens when I was being taught the piano (unsuccessfully) by the elderly Miss Wilson in her very Victorian home (there were coverings on the chair legs!) She was a member of the Plymouth Brethren - and would have fit in quite nicely in Last Chance. Author Hope Ramsay puts religion to the fore but, and I may be wrong, I think it is with tongue firmly in cheek. In a lot of ways what happens seems more like magic with a dash of chicanery. Tulane Rhodes drives stock cars - he's good, but not great. However, he's saddled with Bostonian Sarah Murray for the foreseeable future after she screws up a revenge scheme against a double-dealing colleague. It's her job to keep him out of trouble which it turns out isn't a problem most of the time as he's doing his best to be more mature. He thinks she need to let her hair down. She kinda agrees with him but, of course, that leads to shenanigans and him trying to protect her from the fallout. The book had me at "That's when little bitty Sarah picked up a chair and blindsided Roy right upside the head." It's nicely done but does have more than a passing resemblance to the first in the series, 'Welcome to Last Chance'. 3.5 Stars, reduced to 3 Stars.
This book follows Tulane Rhodes whose a race car driver hoping to go far if he can keep his trouble in check. He's gotten into his share of trouble in life. Will he ever grow up or be stuck like a kid forever?
Sarah is Tulane's PR work and finds keeping him in his pink race car. What all started as a revenge memo has led Tulane into a pink car, and diaper changing races. Can Sarah keep Tulane in line or will he get worse?
This book was cute and innocent kind of like Sarah who being a minister's daughter from Boston has alot to learn in the pr world. She has to learn to be more cutthroat and not back down from things. She also has to learn to own what she does even when she'd rather run the other way.
The relationship between the two is definitely like a car running hot and cold. When Uncle Pete dies Sarah is there for Tulane as much as she can be. Even if the two take a long time to figure out the love aspect they definitely have to cut out the bullies and lies.
Such a fabulous ride to go in which pulls you in and won't let go until the story ends. Can't wait to see what is next for Last Chance!

Sarah and Tulane are great characters. Sarah, the seemingly uptight do-right city girl, and Tulane, the bad boy country racer. I really enjoyed getting to know both of them better and learning that they had so much more underneath their exteriors, that what you see isn't always what you get. Both made mistakes along the way, and Sarah's series of mishaps got confusing. So many memos - I couldn't keep track of who was supposed to have written what at the end. The town of Last Chance really shined in this story. The community and support were outstanding, but not so over the top that it was unbelievable. I kind of wish I lived there sometimes.
This is the 2nd instalment of this series about a southern town in the US. I think I connected a little more with the characters in the first book which is a little weird as I have so much more in common with Sarah than with Jane. The tone and concept is fairly similar to the first story if not the details. Lots of interesting quirky events and people trying to be a community.
Another cute book about Last Chance, South Carolina and another one of the Rhodes’ boy, Tulane. Because of a PR promotion. Tulane was now wearing a pink NASCAR suit and drives a pink car just because Sarah Murray wanted to get back at a guy at work who stole one of her ideas. Unfortunately the idea went over well with the company and Sarah needed to make amends with Tulane. This is a very humorous story that I really enjoyed and can’t wait until the next book.
As hokey as it sounds, reading about a stock car race driver named Tulane Rhoades (get it, two lane roads! I did but shamefully it took me awhile) from Last Chance, South Carolina fall in love without even realizing it, it was absolutely charming! I’ve gotta say I wanna be in Last Chance. I absolutely love reading stories that take place in small southern towns, like this one!
Yani okuyup okuyup zaman gecirip kizmam tuhaf ama bu kitaplari ciddiye alacak olsaydim bir puan verirdim.cinsiyetcilik tam gaz her satirda. Neymis pembe takim giymek erkeklik gururuna dokunuyormus haspam...
The second book in the Last Chance series by Hope Ramsay was better than the first. I enjoy stories of adversaries who learn about the strength and character of each other to learn what divided them initially, United them in the end. A great beach read. Now on to book 3!
This is just my style of book: intense yet believable emotion/drama, some quirky characters, a small town, and a few tiny "hard to believe, but why not" moments. I wish there was an audio version (doesn't seem to have been recorded) because I bet that would be even more fun.
Rebellious stock car racer Tulane Rhodes missed a mandatory personal appearance and now his sponsor has sent prim, proper Sarah Murray from New York to South Carolina to make sure it doesn’t happen again. Usually part of the “back office” research team, Sarah seems to be out of her league when it comes to public relations and the world of marketing. She starts out by fainting in the Southern heat, but luckily Tulane’s mother Ruby is there to come to Sarah’s rescue and Sarah soon seems to be up to the challenge of helping Tulane’s career and her own in the process. But then good girl Sarah and bad boy Tulane realize it’s getting more and more difficult to fight their mutual attraction and it looks like the two might be on a collision course to disaster!
This is the first time I have read a book by this author, and I enjoyed the story of Sarah and Tulane. It’s the typical case of “opposites attract” and the two make a good pair. “Home at Last Chance” is the second in a series and from the description on the back of the book, I was expecting this book to be more along the lines of Debbie Macomber’s “Cedar Cove” series. While both series treat the reader to a large cast of characters in a small town, along with plenty of romance, the Macomber’s series has more down-to-earth relatable characters with more depth while Ramsay’s Last Chance, South Carolina is filled with quirky characters that are fun, but seem two-dimensional. Sarah, Tulane, and Tulane’s mother Ruby are well-developed and interesting, but while most of the other characters in the book are likeable, I didn’t get enough information about them to really connect with them. Also, Sarah’s unethical co-worker and nemesis Steve Phelps, does things that are so drastic, he comes across as a cartoon villain instead of a believable business rival.
While the book started a bit slow and part of the plot are drawn out a little too long, the author did keep me interested enough to want to find out what happens between Tulane and Sarah. Sarah is supposed to be the good girl, but some of her actions are confusing and her little white lies become more self-serving than I would expect from someone who is supposed to be honest and naïve. Tulane, on the other hand, may have a bad-boy image and reputation, but proves that deep down, he is a good man and is a wonderful hero in this story.
I like the way the town’s residents support each other and even most of the town busybodies seem to have everyone’s best interests at heart. The side-story regarding Tulane’s father’s family business brings out the best in the townspeople and provides a way for Sarah to prove her feelings for Tulane are genuine. If the rating scale were different, I would bump up the rating of this book from 3 to 3 ½ stars because I think there is a lot of potential to the series. Tulane and Ruby are extremely likeable, and I would like to get to know some of the other residents of Last Chance better. I am hoping that future installments will give enough information that the readers can really connect with all of the charming characters in the town.
I received this book from NetGalley through the courtesy of Grand Central Publishing in exchange for an honest review.
Don't you just love the blurbs for this series!! They are so cute and inviting, I think it's one of the first things to catch my attention when looking into this series by Hope Ramsay.
I will be honest and say I didn't love Home at Last Chance as much as the first book. The storyline was still cute, and I enjoyed watching Tulane and Sarah fall for each other, but there were some things that were left unfinished for me, which they could be a running storyline, but I guess I was looking for a bit more closure, and the ending seemed a bit abrupt. I was left with a feeling of being lost instead of smiling and feeling like all is right with the world. Hopefully these cliffhangers will be answered in the next book of the series.
Things I did enjoy about Home at Last Chance was the friendship that developed between Tulane and Sarah, and then a crush, and then a budding relationship, only if both of them could get their heads out of their asses long enough to realize that they both feel the same way about each other. They had some funny moments and I got a kick out of these two!
We get a peek at all the same town folk that we loved from book one, and a few more characters that shake things up a bit. One of my favorite parts of these book is the Angels. I can't wait to find out what will happen with the Sorrowful Angel of Haley's who cries all the time. I am a big believer in Angels and the protection of Angels, and I love how Hope Ramsay gets us to find the child within ourselves and has everyone believing in Angels.
Excited to get started on the next book, Last Chance Beauty Queen and I'll be back tomorrow to share my thoughts on Little sister, Rocky's book!!
Hope you all enjoy this series and give it a shot, you won't be disappointed!!
Bgaimana nasib bos2nya Sarah? Apakah Tulane menjuarai balapan?
This 2nd book in the Last Chance Series is cute enough, (and yeah, a bit silly), and I must say I wasn't entirely convinced by the characterization of the female lead, Sarah Murray. She was a little too undefined, wishy-washy – one day she has brilliant ideas about marketing, about Last Chance’s abandoned golf course “Golfing for God”, about embracing the child in all of us, and then the next day, she acts like a total naive moron. Sarah Murray’s working as a liaison for a big corporation called National Brands, and we start the book with Sarah accompanying a reluctant NASCAR driver, Tulane Rhodes in his various contractual advertising assignments. There’s a pink car involved because now Tulane promotes diapers. Quite silly really. Anyway, the story’s backdrop of advertisement in sports is a great idea, but what aggravated me was the ending: Sarah’s job is so important to her, and to us readers since we've been hearing about it all book long, and still at the end we don’t know what happened with her job? You cannot leave us, readers with questions like that. Big mistake. As usual, the southern small town Last Chance and the Rhodes family are great! I like their quirkiness and family values. The genuine interaction between the siblings and their relationship to their parents - even as grown-ups. I immensely enjoyed the character of Tulane. He’s a good man. Rating’s between a two and a three.
