A lot of common sense stuff here. The best parts were the personal anecdotes. Basically, dealing with teenagers should be done firmly and with a sense of humor.

This book had some good practical advice but I feel it's more geared towards neurotypical teens and not so much for neurodivergent teens who can be hard to reason with.

Of the 3 CDs, disc one was excellent, listing 20 tips for parents that are practical, wise, and illustrated with examples. I recommend it.

Disc 3, on the other hand, spent almost all the time on sex and I disagree with some of his views, so I would NOT recommend it.

Finally, the 20tips seem timeless but the rest of the book needs an update for the technology revolution that has occurred in the last 10years. A book about adolescence that never mentions social media seems negligent nowadays.

Note: I should mention that I read this because I was curious to learn more about Leman's views and I was getting pretty desperate with the library's audio collection-on-hand. Time to start requesting in advance!

I always enjoy Kevin Leman for his insight, straight forward talk and humor and this book was no exception.

My only "complaint" is that it was published in the mid 1990s so many of the statistics and references are outdated. I wish he would make some updates and republish.

The basics haven't changed so the material is still good and relevant. Honestly, more updated statistics would probably scare me even more than the ones from the early 1990s as far as the percentages of adolescents experimenting with drugs and sex. I'm sure those are much higher now than they were then so maybe it's better I don't know!
