This is a book for healthy people mostly and those with a bit of a new age viewpoint, and not for those that are ill. It is also for people concerned a lot with improving their looks and that are into a certain sort of spirituality. There is a face lift cleanse, and lots of information on using the time of a cleanse to cleanse yourself spiritually as well. One part suggests writing meaningful words on rocks. It may be a helpful book for some but it's not for everyone.

The author pushes a raw vegan diet as the healthiest, which is just utter nonsense. The book also supports the saturated fat myths, myths about raw food and raw food being easier to digest than cooked food, and several others. It is the usual mainsteam type food information.

Vegetables are an important part of a healthy diet and eating lots and lots of them is a very good idea but they are not all that is needed for optimum health or for detoxification. Adequate protein is absolutely essential for this purpose, as are certain fat soluble vitamins and other nutrients. Fat is very good for you if it is a natural and non-chemically altered fat.

On the positive side the book does talk about soaking and sprouting nuts, issues with chemicals and coffee and does at least point out that foods eaten on a cleansing diet are not conducive to good health if they are all that are eaten long term.

This book should be avoided by those that are ill and want information on cleanses to make a real difference. It's far too lightweight for that and ignores so much good information. It also focuses on doing brief cleanses rather than just eating well all the time, which is non-negotiable if you are trying to heal something serious. Mostly it is about eating lots of vegetables and doing some juicing.

You'd probably get at least the same benefit by just eating well (eating produce that is local and in season, not super-exotic expensive stuff plus healthy proteins and fats) and buying a juicer and adding a green juice a day to your daily diet, as buying this book and following all the complex and often not that tasty or digestable recipes in it.

Far better and more in-depth information on this topic is in books on cleansing and detoxification by Dr Sherry Rogers and others plus books on diet such as 'Primal Body, Primal Mind' and 'The Vegetarian Myth.'

Excellent collection of 1-3-5-7 day dietary cleanses. For any doubters, these are not fasting cleanses. You get plenty of calories and eat almost every 2 hours throughout the day. Niemerow's plans include nutrient dense foods. I went on the 3-day face lift cleanse and felt great the whole time. Foods include green juices, wheat grass, salads with lots of sprouts, purified water with lemon, berry and almond milk smoothies, pureed veggie soups, etc. I gave it a 4-star because some of the ingredients were difficult to locate and expensive with only minimal amounts being used. I recommend doing the cleanse with a friend and sharing the cost. If I did it again, I would leave off some of the unnecessary supplements I purchased that were only used in very small amounts. I also opted to buy the green juices from a local health food store, rather than making them every day. Sometimes, your body just needs a re-boot.

Lately I have been eating really healthy foods and trying to get more exercise, which caused me to buy this book. I have never tried a cleanse before but the more I read about good health, the more I stumble onto this idea of purging toxins from the body. I started reading this book last night and I like that Niemerow encourages meditation and relaxation excercises. Also, many of the foods require using a juicer and I don't own one yet. Does anyone have any advice on good juicer brands and any experience with doing a cleanse? Should I go balls out and try for a five to seven day cleanse or should I start slowly with a three day one? Thanks chicas... Love, Shan

One of my favorite cookbooks. Have overlooked the many errors that I have found over the years and continue to use this as a go-too book for healthy recipes with ni meat and healthy ingredients. Hope to adhere to one of her cleanses one of these days.....

She has seemed to drop out of the cookbook and blog environment. Luckily, I have this book to keep me going for a lifetime.

Love the apple porridge-ginger, apple and other goodies that keep me going for hours.

I must admit that I am not a fan of strenuous 'cleanses' or 'detox' diets. I've seen many a friend suffer through one, and I just don't want to put myself through that. Adina Niemerow's book, on the other hand, seems pretty reasonable to me. She offers up all manner of cleanses/detox treatments, from a one-day cleanse to several 5-day plans, up to a 5-to-10 day cleanse. Some of the more strenuous 5-day plans are based solely on juices and/or liquids. All stress massive amounts of veggies and fruits, and prefer whole grains. Many of the recipes are based on the Raw food diet (something I never thought I'd try, much less enjoy). There is a number of hearty soups, rice and other recipes in the book. My favorite cleanse is the 5-day 'Laughing Buddha' cleanse, followed by the 'Some Like it Raw' cleanse. Now that I've tried these plans, I find that I yearn for cleaner foods. Anyone who wants to tiptoe into a 'cleanse' or 'detox' program, I think this would be the book for you. It was for me.

This is the first cleanse book I have read - so I'm not sure what I was expecting. There were a couple things I liked about this book. First, she asks you to set your expectations and intentions on what you hope to gain from your Cleanse. I think starting with the end in mind is always a good place to be, so kudos on that. My other major comment is that while she does a great job of explaining each cleanse and how you may feel, etc. I think where I am right now it's pretty unrealistic for me to shop and find all of these ingredients to do my own natural cleanse. I may struggle with that. Either way, it was informative and I learned a lot about the purpose of a good clease and what it can or should do for you.

Interesting topic, but because I just had a baby 3 weeks ago, I can't do any of the cleanses other than the one day "cleanse," which is really one day of eating healthy... and that we already do.

There are some good recipes in the book for healthy soups and salads, but to follow most of the cleanses in the book, you will need a juicer. If you don't have a juicer, this book is kind of a waste of time.

Regardless of whether the reader is sold on the detox element of this book (sections on colonics get a bit preachy), the recipes Niemerrow includes are wonderful. There isn't a bitter or tasteless juice in the book.

I'm not a big fan of cleansing but her approach is reasonable and healthy. I'm going to try the one day cleanse.
