It's 1981 and Den & Angie Watts are struggling with their turbulent marriage, Den is having an affair with Jan Hammond and Angie is trying her luck too.
With this book being set so close to the series (as opposed to the preceding books being set much earlier) this feels like it has been lifted directly out of the show.
It's short length doesn't drag the story out too much although Den and Angie's extramarital activities are glossed over a bit too much as a result.
I love the fact that these novels can be easily zipped through over the course of three or four bus trips! I'd hoped that the "Den & Angie" novel would be one that focused on their first meeting and early days - as opposed to over ten years later, when the bickering and frostiness is already in full swing - and yet, on further reflection, I can't deny that the beginnings of Den's long-term affair with Jan is probably much more ripe for drama. As with all of these novels, they're incredibly lightweight - but also entirely enjoyable.
