I love a determined hero! That's got to be my favorite part about this light and steamy romance. Our hero has been crushing on his best friend's sister for nearly a decade, and he has no plans to miss his shot this time around. It's sexy, very low angst, and reads quickly. If you're not caught up on the series, it's definitely not a problem because this easily stands on its own. I've been enjoying this series - Lynn plays on the tropes we know and love, making for low angst, kinda sweet, reads. And while there were a couple of elements to the backstory that weren't my favorite, there was nothing major holding me back from enjoying this best friend's little sis romance.
The story follows Jason, a hockey player who has wanted his best friend's sister since they met. Back then, Jason was just starting his career, traveling too much to start up something new, and Tessa lived in another country. It didn't stop Jason from wanting her (or Tessa from wanting him), but it was not the right time to make his feelings known. Fresh off of a broken engagement, Tessa's whole life is up in the air and she's come to stay with her brother while she figures things out. It's still not the ideal time to start something - and Jason knows this - but he's done waiting. Making his intentions clear from the start, Jason is determined to finally get his girl.
There's a lot about this that I loved - how well these two know each other, the strong feelings from the beginning, Jason's determination. It's got all of the elements of a great read, and I've always enjoyed Lynn's writing. I knew going into this that it would be low angst and easy, which it definitely is. It does feature a backstory that's not my favorite; Jason's had strong feelings for years, but he's been biding his time with one night stands, and Tessa just got out of a serious relationship (even though she's also had a longtime crush). They're essentially in love when the book begins, so it's always irritating when two people with real feelings let a decade go to waste. It wasn't enough to detract from the story, but certainly isn't my ideal scenario. Ultimately, it's a solid story and a great addition to the series. I'm looking forward to seeing what's next! I received an ARC via Social Butterfly PR and am voluntarily leaving a review of this steamy sports romance.
