Perfect Amy Candler tries hard to blend in with everyone else, but then she comes face to face with someone who looks just like her--someone who is another Amy. The two girls look identical, and Amy expects them to have identical personalities. But she's in for a big surprise. The other Amy is determined to stand out from the crowd. She's determined to grab the spotlight, even if it means squashing the competition. She's determined not to have a look-alike, and she wants Amy out of the way. She's...well...evil! Amy must stop her, if she can.
I was born in New Britain, Connecticut, and grew up in Atlanta, Georgia. I also spent a year (5th grade) in Montgomery, Alabama, and a year in Ann Arbor, Michigan(8th grade). As a child, I always wanted to be a writer, but I had lots of other ambitions too. I wanted to be a teacher, a librarian, a movie star, the president of the United States, and a ballerina.
I didn't achieve all my goals. I never became a movie star, the president of the U.S., or a ballerina. But I've been a teacher and a librarian and most of all, a writer. I've been writing for as long as I can remember. Growing up, I always kept a diary. I wrote poems, stories, plays, songs and lots of letters. Writing wasn't easy for me, but it felt natural and right.
I've always read a lot, too. I was an English major at Emory University (I love Shakespeare), and I also received a master's degree in library science at Emory. I earned a Doctor of Philosophy degree from the University of Chicago, and I taught children's and teen literature at St. John's University in New York for over 20 years. Now, I'm a full-time writer, living in Paris, France - the most beautiful city in the world.
A reread after almost 20 years I think, a huge nostalgia rush and still somewhat fresh story. I wanted to start the series from the beginning but could only get my hands on the third one so we’ll see if i’ll read the others as well.
This story is about the girl named Amy who seems supernatural compare to the others. She is better than others in any possible way in academic, sports,..etc. Because she is a clone. Her bestfriend and her bestfriend's brother Eric are the only ones who knows about it. One day, she met another clone, a replica just like her, only the hair color is different. She looks identical with her but what if they are not the same in a way?
This genre is really different from what I usually read but it makes it more attractive and interesting to read. I mean like how would you react if you see another you? No words can ever describe that kind of feelings, right?
Another Amy Tasha has good news for Amy. She’s been chosen to write for The Journal. The newspaper is picking correspondents from each school as representatives Tasha wants to write about something different. Something unique. Something like interviewing a girl with extraordinary talents. She hints, but then quickly says she’s just kidding and promises she won’t tell Amy’s secret. Tasha says she saw a commercial for “Sunshine Orange Juice” and there was a girl who looked *just* like Amy. Amy doesn’t take it seriously because lately, Tasha been seeing her face everywhere,. But Tasha tells her to watch the news that night. While checking to see if Eric is still in detention, Amy notices a flier being printed in the office that informs the te teachers that Electra Entertainment will be there filming the movie “Middle School Maniac.” But they can’t tell the students While walking home, Eric asks Amy if she’ll spy on Ronald Hurley to see if he’s really on a higher level than him on a video game and she says yes. This seems to make Eric happy but she wonders if he’s just into her for her skills.
That night tho when she goes for a walk and realizes that she can see into Ronald’s window he’s already turned off the lights. It’s not something she wanted to do anyway (because it seems unethical) and she hopes Eric will forget. The next day, Tasha gets upset when she finds out Amy told Eric about the filming first. Then she realizes maybe she shouldn’t have told Eric because now she’s hearing gossip all day about the movie. Tasha tries to assure her that he’d never tell *her* secret, but now Amy feels like Eric can’t be trusted. When she confronts him about it, he says he didn’t do it, but Amy brings up her secret and says she hopes he won’t tell that before walking away. But Amy finds out that Jeanine is the one that told. She knew about the movie because the producer had dinner at her house and offered her a part in the movie. Amy tries to apologize but Eric isn’t feeling it.
The movie crew shows up and an announcement is made for the students to get to class and not linger in the hallways. Tasha decides later to use this opportunity to interview the movie crew. She invites Amy to be her “assistant”. After school, the guard seemes to recognize Amy and invites her and Tasha into one of the mobile homes. Tasha and Amy hear an argument between the director and the star (who doesn’t want to be there at the school but he wants her to go check it out. He leaves and Tasha and Amy come face to face with the star whose a blond replica of Amy. She screams and kicks them out her trailer.
Later Amy finds out the girl they saw was the one Tasha said she saw in the commercial and Amy thinks it’s freaky that two of her clones have turned up in LA in a month. Amy points out that’s three, but Tasha said there could be hundreds that she doesn’t know about. Amy decides to go back to the trailer the next day. When she talks to Nancy and tells her about the ballet dancer and the girl in the trailer, Nancy doesn’t think it’s a good idea to speak to the girl. She says she might not know what she is and her mother might be a “stage mom” and been overly protective (keeping her away from people and situations where she could have found out about any extra skills). Nancy says she might be happy with her life as it is, but Amy says she has a right to know who she is. Nancy advises her to just be careful and consider how she felt when she was told the truth.
Tasha and Amy try to go to the trailer early the next day but the guard won’t let them anywhere near Aimee Evans (and the director has now seen them and has gone to report them to the principal). After hearing Jeanine say they’ll be auditioning for extras in the gym, Amy asks Eric if he’ll go to the gym. In return, she agrees to spy on Ronald for him. Eric does get picked, but he finds out Aimee is bitch. When he tries to talk to her she blackmails a stylist who wants her to try on a dress to switch it to the next day or she’ll tell she’s stealing fabric. She also gets the director to give Jeanine a bit part (when Jeanine came up to her she promised to put in a good word for her) and she also demands article approval to a reporter. So, Eric decides even though she and Amy may look similar they can never be clones.
Eric tells Amy this, but Amy tells him people can be related without having the same personality. Eric gets a call from Sue (the reporter that was with Aimee’s mom) and she wants him to go out on a date with Aimee. Both Amy and Tasha think it’s a good idea for their own reasons. Tasha thinks it’ll get her a job at Teen Time. Amy thinks if he gets close to her he can find out more about Aimee (and she can meet her). She promises Eric she’ll do the challenging math homework she turned him down on asking her to do before because it felt wrong. She also finds out Ronald is just on Level 4.
Amy confronts Aimee in the bathroom after a scene but doesn’t far because the other Aimee’s mother walks in the restroom and screams. So, Amy takes off. Eric goes on his “date” with Aimee to play miniture golf. They barely talk. He finds out she’s after “power” but by the end of the date even though she won the game, he can’t tell if it’s because she’s a clone or because she cheated by steeping on his toes. Tasha gets Amy to come clean about liking her brother. She isn’t happy about it so Amy says if it bothers her that much she won’t talk to him. Tasha says she won’t ask her to do that,
Amy tries to sneak into a scene to see if Aimee has the same crescent birthmark. She finds Aimee face down in the pool and dives in to save her, but it turns out she’s just doing a scene. But she realizes there’s no birthmark and her mother yells that she’s the one stalking her daughter. So she has to run. Amy finds herself hiding in a cabinet waiting for the makeup person to leave, but the makeup person turns out to be Mr. Devon. He says he’s not there for her which means he’s there because someone from the organization is. He doesn’t answer her questions and tells her to just leave and he pushes her out. But then someone catches her on the way out. Amy’s head is covered and she’s pushed into a waiting car. She hears them talking about getting a photo and figures they’ll give it to the organization as proof they have her. But then she realizes they think they’ve kidnapped Aimee. So, she decides to play the role out and act like Aimee. She finds out that Aimee does know what she is when she asks what’s going on and they tell her she knows. Interestingly all three guys are considerate to all her requests. On the way there she sees a police car, but the kidnappers don’t seem phased by it. One of them says they’re meeting a woman at 2. They pull into an office complex-just like the one where the dentist complex was-.
They one of them says the name Addamns, Just like Sue Addams. They ask her which floor and Amy doesn’t have a clue. The skinny one says she has to know where the hiding place is. But then she finds out it’s a publicity stunt. They yank off her swim cap and realize it's not the right one. Then it’s clear. Aimee organized her own kidnapping and Sue hired the guys. So, she just walks away. They don’t try to stop her. She tells her mother after that it’s not her.
Tasha has the next day that she has an interview with Aimee and now Amy can find out if she’s a clone. But Aimy isn’t interested anymore. During the interview, Tasha says two men showed up and kidnapped Aimee and her mother didn’t seem concerned. Amy then tells her it was a publicity stunt and what went down yesterday. While doing the interview, Tasha says Aimee was wearing a bustier and she *did* have the birthmark. Amy realizes Mr. Devon covered up the mark with makeup. Amy realizes that Sue might be a part of the organization and rushes off to save Aimee. She finds Aimee and tries to get her out of there before Sue returns. She blurts out their history to Aimee and shows her her mark. But Aimee doesn’t believe her and they get into a shoving match (and then a fight). Sue returns and then freezes when she sees Amy’s face. Sue then points a gun at Amy. She rips her shirt and then sees Amy’s mark. Amy is able to kick the gun out of Sue’s hand but in doing this she kicks Sue in the head and she falls to the floor. She’s unconscious but Aimee says Amy should just kill her. But Amy pulls her away. Amy tells Eric to take Aimee to school so she can pretend she’s her and she’ll switch places with her and go to the set. Amy stops by her place to get Aimee some of her clothes and Aimee tells her there’s a wig in her trailer. She memorizes her script but doesn’t quite look right in the wig. Inside she runs into Mr. Devon who says she shouldn’t have done that. *They* would have protected her, but there isn’t time to talk. She’s son called on to the set. She doesn’t quite do the lines with Aimee’s flair for acting tho and she pisses the director off and he fires her.
Amy isn’t sure how she’ll tell Aimee but figures they’re sisters so she’ll understand. She looks for Aimee at school, but Eric tells her she’s gone. She crawled out the window. She left a note that says she shouldn’t expected her to stay around. Tell her mother not to took for her and tell the director she quit the movie. Shes going to find power and she’s not sure how but now she has the means. Amy sees why Mr. Devon was upset. She’s now let something evil into the world.
My Thoughts I expected a little more from this. This Aimee was more bitchy than “evil”. I think the most “evil” thing she did was threaten to blackmail the stylist. The other stuff.. She kept saying she wanted “power” and she was gonna get it by any means necessary. While that’s intriguing I wanna see 1) how she plans to get this power and 2 what she’ll do with it when she gets it. Other than that it just felt like there was a lot of build-up to finding out if she was a clone and then we find out she is and then .. NOTHING.. end of story. I guess tho we can take it that Sue is apart of Project Crescent. Or is she? Not even that was very clear.

Darn, I was hoping to keep the high ratings going for this series, but this book was just a little bit disappointing overall for me.
Alright, so this time around Amy and all the other kids at her middle school are really excited because there's a movie being filmed on campus. However, Amy is shocked to find that the starring actress looks just like her. Could this be another clone, or is the resemblance just a big coincidence?
Okay, so I think what bugged me was the plot. Amy has been on the run from this secret organization and she hasn't run into any of her clones directly, so this was a big opportunity to do things on a grand scale. However, it kind of flopped a bit. The good vs. evil tagline on the front isn't quite right. The clone that Amy meets named Aimee isn't evil, just misunderstood, and I don't think making things so black and white is a good thing.
I also felt that Amy's clone was a bit two-dimensional. I wish she'd had more substance or at least shown other levels than to just be a brat. I will say, Amy was still fun to follow around. She wants this idea of having her clones as sisters to come to fruition and she has to learn to manage her expectations. These other Amy's have lived very different lives than she has.
I don't think we've seen the last of bratty Aimee, but hopefully she will show some depth the next time we see her. Still hoping for great things with this series!
I originally wrote a blog post on my Dreamwidth reviewing the three books I read of this series: "Amy Number Seven," "Another Amy," and "Perfect Girls." I have copy-pasted parts of it onto here as appropriate. It might come off as a little disjointed. The concluding paragraph will be the same in each review of it on here.
"Another Amy" is the first book but recycled. I gave it three stars. There's brief mentions of a child performer who's another Amy, but she gets little page time. The plot holes are massive and I had to suspend my disbelief. I was a semi-professional child performer and we're not all assholes, Marilyn Kaye. The characters are one-dimensional and flat. Amy the actress' reactions are -not- realistic for a twelve-year-old and she's not written as one, either. I was kind of creeped out. And a slasher film being set in a middle school? It's all coded as high school, where the genre did originate! A slasher film in a middle school just would not work, and this is the nineties I'm talking about. It's an indie film concept, not a big studio thing. And Tasha getting to be a junior reporter in a big newspaper? Also more likely to be a high school thing. I'm not saying middle schoolers can't; I'm saying they would need a lot more practice, which Tasha is not shown as getting. Eric going on the date--whatevs, plot hole, not gonna do this, ugh. Does. Not. Happen, and they are in -middle school-. Again, this stuff happens in HIGH SCHOOL. Dammit, Marilyn Kaye. I want to write a short story to make myself feel better. The book overall...managed to be really boring too. I was surprised.
I really liked how each clone has different abilities, and was hugely relieved that gymnastics!Amy was such a bad actor. As a child, my reaction was lol. As an adult, it was teehee; heeehheeeheee. I thought briefly of ballet!Amy, stage name Annie. Good on her. So yeah, the differences between each were great and I was relieved.
Over the course of all three books I read, a lot of emotions didn't make sense, nor some of the reactions. People didn't change as characters or learn anything really, and part of that was the continuity being so bad because the author preferred to heap repeated backstory onto her audience for most of the books. A lot of interesting stuff took place off-page and in between books that I would have liked to see. What a letdown. I'm glad I read these three books again, though.
To make sense of this book you need to read through the series. "Amy, Number Seven" sets the story and the pace. There you meet her friends, mother (relatively speaking), and the organization.
Next is "Searching for Amy." In this, you find how sinister the series can be. Now you are ready for "Another Amy." This book moves faster than the first two. It also is more concerned with the nature of people and relationships than the first two books. I was wondering how much of Marilyn Kaye is in Amy and how much is just formula writing. There is just a small biography at the back of the book. Anyway, you better have the next book ready. And beware of blondes bearing crescents.
These are odd and flawed, but I'm still somewhat intrigued. We don't know the name of the organization, and it's the third book. There are some other unsolved mysteries, too, which is fine, but I think we should know the name of the organization by now. I've given all of these two stars so far, because they're simply okay. I think this is the type of series you'll have to read, when you want something easy. I like the romantic ending in this one, though. The nurse's office is an interesting place.
As a kid, this was one of my least favorite books in the series and rereading it as an adult — I stand by my original assessment. The meeting of this Amy was so dreadful. I get the stark contrast that the author wanted to make as our first introduction to “another Amy” but OMG this one was so insufferable! Despite being bratty and cruel, she was just boring. Not even acting could save her. Our Amy dodged a bullet.
Oh boy, coming face to face with someone who shares your secret? Amy #7 will soon find out just it feels when she meets a girl who looks exactly like her, after all they share a lot of same similarities
joo no vaikka nää onki nostalgisia kirjoja nii oon kyl liian vanha lukee näit. saattaa olla et ehkä joskus jatkan näitten lukemist mut nyt ei kyl kiinnosta
Ever try to image yourself as a clone? Amy Candler is a girl who is a clone. Tasha Morgan is kind, respectful, extraordinary and is Amy Candler's best friend. Tasha Morgan's brother, Eric Morgan, is caring, kind and respectful. Nancy Candler is Amy's loving, caring and careful mother. Aimee Evans is Amy's mean and snobby clone Another Amy, by Marilyn Kaye, is a great book for 5th grade kids.
While at school Amy learns their will be a new movie called Middle School Maniac, being shot at their school. When Amy learned this and the movie began to be shot, Amy met one of her clones, Aimee Evans. When Amy meets Aimee Evans, Aimee screams and doesn't want to see Amy because she doesn't know her. Amy tries her hardest to help Aimee know about being a clone. Aimee won't listen to Amy because of the way Aimee is. Then Aimee is pretend kidnapped for publicity ( so she thinks). Sue is undercover from the organization that wants to find a clone to duplicate it and have clones run the world. Sue tricks Aimee to think it's a publicity stunt but it is not. Did you get all that? A little confusing isn't it? Just try to read the book and keep everything straight.
I believe the book Another Amy is a thrilling book and always keeps you on the edge of your seat. I also believe that this book is a great book for ages eleven and twelve. This book makes you want to keep guessing what will happen next. Comparing the book Another Amy, to Pursuing Amy, Another Amy is more exciting and has more details of what's happening. Pursuing Amy is the second book in the series.
Amy continues to search for the other Amys when one shows up at her school. This one is an actress in desperate need of an attitude adjustment.
This little series is like potato chips. Just can't stop reading them. I really enjoy them. And they have some good lessons for kids. And we may be heading for lttle bit of romance in the next one.
