I was born in New Britain, Connecticut, and grew up in Atlanta, Georgia. I also spent a year (5th grade) in Montgomery, Alabama, and a year in Ann Arbor, Michigan(8th grade). As a child, I always wanted to be a writer, but I had lots of other ambitions too. I wanted to be a teacher, a librarian, a movie star, the president of the United States, and a ballerina.

I didn't achieve all my goals. I never became a movie star, the president of the U.S., or a ballerina. But I've been a teacher and a librarian and most of all, a writer. I've been writing for as long as I can remember. Growing up, I always kept a diary. I wrote poems, stories, plays, songs and lots of letters. Writing wasn't easy for me, but it felt natural and right.

I've always read a lot, too. I was an English major at Emory University (I love Shakespeare), and I also received a master's degree in library science at Emory. I earned a Doctor of Philosophy degree from the University of Chicago, and I taught children's and teen literature at St. John's University in New York for over 20 years. Now, I'm a full-time writer, living in Paris, France - the most beautiful city in the world.

Amy has a piercing revelation.

Any girl that can never catch a cold, faces problems on multiple levels. She seems to be unnaturally irritable, and paranoid.

Her friends are concerned. And she seems to be losing her powers. Will she last for another book?

Are there any bad guys? There is an old saying “Just because you are paranoid does not mean they are not out to get you.”
Who do you trust?
Clues abound.

The Fever
There’s a boring school assembly going on about stopping drug dealers infiltrating the schools. There has been an increase of students showing signs of having addictions. One of the parents bring up there need to be outside activites, but it’s not in the budget. So, the meeting is dismissed. Eric and Tasha go home with Amy and her mom. They’ll be staying with her for two weeks while their parents are on their second honeymoon. There’s a man coming over -an old friend of Mrs. Chandler-named David. She’s not seen him in twelve years. He worked with her on “Project Crescent”. Back then he was a workaholic and, driven, and intense.pale. But the man they see is clean cut and easy going. He’s moved there and set up a general practice. He-as Amy requests-tells them about how “Project Cresecent” started.

It's the first time he’s seen a clone and asks her if she’s ever been sick. She tells him she’s never even had a cold. Tasha and Eric go on to brag about all the things Amy can do-which embarrasses her-. David says he’s a small time doctor now. He even makes house calls. They take interest in him when he says he even pierces ears. Then he gives them a warning about going to doctor’s and having to be careful when Nancy says she just doesn’t feel safe about letting Amy go to a dcotr. He agrees to pierce Tasha and Amy’s ears for free.

The next day (Janine) and some of the other students suggest some ways to prevent drugs from getting into the school (strip searches, locker searches, Xray mahine, etc). Amy says that they shouldn’t be thrown in jail (the victims). Instead the need conseling. Janine says if you get rid of the addicts you won’t have any users. Amy thinks that’s stupid. They’ll just find more. Luckily the bell rings when Janine asks if she’s a misfit. Janine also gets a dig in when one of Amy’s stick on earrings falls off. Tasha is a little reluctant to get hers piecred by Amy says she’ll stay with her and hold her hand. Tasha makes her promise if she cries she won’t tell Eric. On the way home, a rich tycoon (on the news) says he’s going to have teen clubs commissioned. It’ll have security but he wants kids to feel free. Mr. Toliver says there will be computers, a ginat screen tv, poetry readings, and hands. He says he’ll have the first club going in three days. He says the first will be in the Parkside community. It’ll be called “Aces Space”

When they get their ears pierced surprisingly Tasha feels the pain of it. David is impressed by Amy’s strength. She helped him move a box. Eric doesn’t like it but Nancy says he can be trusted. Later, Eric gives her heart shaped earrings as a gift. Amy falls asleep while waching tv-which is something he never does before bedtime- but discovers she’s extremely tired and turns in early. Eric and Kyle talk about the club. It’s free the first night and then five dollars after. Amy surprisingly misses a basket after Kyle bets she can’t make a basket again and she tells him she’s tired-which she has been a lot lately-. But she’s not to tired to go to the “Ace of Space”. Or mouth at her mother about her outfit.

Eric thinks the club is cool. Tasha thinks Ace Tolliver looks like the librian on Buffy-which is he looks good-. He comes over and introduces himself and talks as if he’s goinv to be there friends. He tells him he really wants the place to work. But he’s not in to “do good”. He’s in it to make a profit. Eric is impressed and they talk numbers. He says he might make an advisory panel and asks if they’re all offered the position. He might even be able to pay them. He tells them his memory trick before leaving their table. Amy thinks he’s creepy. Then she says she’s hot and Eric realizes she’s sweating. She says she wants to go home. So, they have to call her mother. When she gets home, she says she’s fine. The club was just hot. Eric didn’t think so. She says maybe it was the rasphberry drink, but Eric says Ace wouldn’t serve alcohol and Tasha says she had two and she says she’s fine. Amy goes to bad after that and as she does (again saying she’s tired) Eric and Tasha look worried. Her mom says David says might be something she eat or drank.

The next morning, Amy doesn’t see some spots that use to be on the ceiling that she’s noticed before. She tells Tasha she had a bad dream that she was invisible. She snaps at Tasha when she tells her she’s had weird dreams too-then she apologizes-. Amy also snaps at her mother when she’s told to take something to school to eat with her-or eat something right then-. (Her friends get on her about this outside) but she just said she can talk to her mom however she wants. Amy tells her about a weird thing that happened in class. She didn’t know the answer to what is the capital of Equador. Even Janine has noticed and points out that Any is swaying. She drops her tray. Tasha goes over to Amy but she brushes it off and says it’s no big deal. She practically bumps into another student. Janine asks her is she on drug before walking away. Tasha tells her she’s just having a bad day. She says maybe someone slipped her something and she thinks it’s because of the drink. Maybe there were drugs in all the drinks. Tasha tells her she and Eric drank the drink and they feel fine. Amy gets mad and walks out. In the bathroom she notices she has a headache and she’s sweating. In the hallway she can’t remember her locker combination. Then come to find out it’s not even her locker. Then she goes to the wrong French class.

In French class, Amy answers her teacher in French but she’s speaking to her in English. The teacher sends her to the office, but that’s the last place she’s going. She starts to think maybe she’s been drugged. Maybe Ace is part of the Organization and opened the club as a way of trying to find her. So goes to find Eric and she tells him her theory. Amy wants to contact an authority. Eric says they should call her mother. Then she accuses him of “being one of them” and runs out the door-away from the school-. Amy starts to think that maybe the Morgans are apart of it too. She heads to “Aces” for proof, but there’s no one there.

She takes the fire escape and sees Ace talking on the phone. She can’t make out the words tho. Ace sees her -hears her- and someone pulls her inside the roo,. She starts to scream out she’s Amy Number Seven and he can’t hurt her but then it all goes dark. Tasha and Eric head to “Ace of Space” and Ace leads them to Amy. She’s out cold. Ace gets his driver to take them home. Nancy calls Dr. Hopkins. Now she’s burning up with a fever. Dr. Hopkins tells her that Amy *does* have a very high fever-the kind that can kill a normal person-. He’s taken hair and DNA samples to take back to his office. Eric and Tasha tell him Amy’s theory. Dr. Hopkins and Eric go back and forth arguing over whether shes drugged. In the end, he says he’ll run as many test as he can. Later, Nancy says the test showed there are no drugs in her system or had ever been.

Amy dreams she sees Mr. Devine and Dr. J. At first, she’s in a cold place and she thinks she’s dead. Thenn she’s enclosed in a very warm place that gets hotter. When Eric and Tasha leave for school, Amy is in a coma and her mother tells them not to tell anyone. Just say she has slight bronchitis. Eric durng the day because frustrated with the lack of news and Dr. Hopkins “expertise”. He thinks Amy needs a specialist. Tasha warns him what this could mean if they called someone else. But Eric needs someone else to talk to so he decides to go with Kyle after school to the Ace to talk to Ace. It continues to get hotter in her dream and Amy knows she’ll soon join all the dead bodies in her past.

Ace says he’ll get Dr. Arnold Bickers to look at Amy and agrees to have it done privately. Tasha is looking at an article singing Ace’s praises (or is it something on tv?) and hears a noise. It’s Amy whose thrown herself off the bed and is having a seizure. She’s dream she got so hot she dissolved. It takes everything to restrain he. She’s weak but she’s still stronger than her mom and Tasha. She’s mumbling. Tolliver. Evil. No Good. Finally she settles down and goes still. Dr. Hopkins is called and goes in to examine her. The Dr says it’s a good sign that she might be coming out of her coma. Tho he’s not sure what caused it. Nancy feels guilty because she should have noticed sooner. The Dr. tells her to come with him to run some tests. Eventually she agrees when Eric comes in.

When Tasha hears what Eric’s done she decides that th ebest thing to do is to hide Amy and take her place in bed. All the while she’s trying to hide Amy in the closet Amy is saying DANGER! DANGER! TOLLIVER! And she makes Tasha promise to tell the police. Finally tho she goes silent and limp and lets her put her in the closet. Tasha is brave even for the doctor to examine her-and even stick her with a needle-. After he leaves, Eric says the Dr will give them the results. Tasha then writes an anonymous tip to the police station that there are drugs being administered at the Ace of Space. Amy then comes too with no idea she’d been sixk.

Some days later, Amy is frustrated because she’s still not back to her normal self. She’s struggling with math and can’t see her clock radio. Ace’s doctor reports “Amy” is perfectly fine. Nancy’s says Amy whatever caused the fever wiped all of Amy’s powers. To get Amy out of her depression they all go to Ace’s club again. Eric is way too protective but Amy loses herself in daning. She moves away from him to get some air and Tasha follows her. Eric is treating her like she’s made of glass. Outside they see the police arrive and Tasha wonders if it’s because of the note she sent. Tasha goes to get a rasphberry soda. Amy goes to find Eric. She notices a smell and recognizes it as fire. There’s panic as people rush to get out. Amy trips over a human on the floor. She tries to grab him but he’s too heavy. So she just drags him. Someone helps her and then he regains consciousness. Amy rushes back in to save the people on the floor but she hears that help has arrived. She tries to help but the people resist and soon she snatched upby a fireman who gets her out.

Thirty people end up in the hospital in critical condition. Amy feels guilty. She could have helped them. She falls into a depression. Doesn’t eat, doesn’t sleep, doesn’t leave her room. Tasha tells Amy later that an investigator has been trying to make a connection between a few other teen spots that have opened recently and are owned by Ace (a combination bowling alley and skating rink) to the drugs going around but there’s been no evience. Eric tells them about how he went back to Ace’s and saw a letter that said Amy didn’t seem like a threat (to the doctor) and how he heard a phone call that there was a shipment of something coming in. Amy remembers telling Ace that she’s Amy Number Seven and how perfect she is and how stronger she is than him. She asks Eric to see if he can set up a meeting with him. It makes sense to Amy he’s putting drugs into the food and drinks and then he’s using his bouncers to distribute the drugs.

Eric is sent in and wired while Tasha and Amy wait for him to give the singal to call the police. They have to rush in and save him -which Amy does by jumping on Tolliver’s back- but she’s able to take him down-which he and she are shocked about it-. Tolliver is caught. His first big shipment was coming in Friday and when he saw the police he started the fire. Amy realizes that her powers are coming back. Dr. Hopkins says he was the cause. He says he found some blood on the cotton of where he piereced her ear. When he pierced her ear she “short circuited”. . Because of this he’ll get back into clone research. He looks at her ears -and because she took out the earrings- her holes are starting to close. He says when they heal her powers will probably return. Eric and Tasha give her a ton of earrings (stick ons) which make her emotional.

My Thoughts:
I REALLY did not want Ace to have anything to do with this drug plot. I guess I should have known better. The “good” ones are never really who they appear to be. It’s a shame. *(* even wanted some of this rasphberry drink. It just didn’t quite make sense that neither Tasha nor Eric were affected. But when you think about it Tasha was starting to be affected because she always got this drink whenever she went to the club. But because Ace is a billionaire I just wanted him to be the kind of guy that did something good for the tenns in the community -just because- with no other motivation. Not for the investment but just because “I have money. Let me help someone out that needs it-. But I guess that’s how GREED is and it says a lot about how people operate in this world. Just like how pharmaceutical companies really aren’t out to HELP cure illnesses. They’re out to KEEP people coming back to get the drugs so they can keep getting PAID! It’s just SAD! I’m glad Amy’s recovering. Wouldn’t be much of a story to read about her “normal”. Even tho admittedly it hasn’t been much of one anyway with all these random bad guys that don’t rally connect to anything yet.If there just *had* to be a bad guy in this I would have rather it have been the Doctor and I don’t think I fully rule him out, but the way this story is going I have my doubts if we’ll hear from him again or he’ll wind up dead in the next book.

While I enjoyed this read, the conclusion left something to be desired.

This time in Amy's chaotic life, a new business owner in town has decided to open some clubs for teens to hang out at. The establishment soon becomes a hit with the teenagers, but when Amy's health takes a sudden nosedive, she, Tasha, and Eric race against time to locate the source of her illness.

First off, I liked the premise of this book. A new business owner that's cool with kids and seems to be legit was a unique setup. It was a lot of fun to go through the twists and turns in this mysterious journey. I mean, a cool place for teens sounds like something that needs to be a reality. However, this ended up being the second time that Amy got sick and while the situation was totally different, I think maybe it was too soon after the first time to try this out.

There wasn't much progression for Amy due to her illness, which is understandable. Instead, Tasha and Eric take charge and it was nice to see them be the heroes with Amy out of commission.

The thing that I didn't like the most was the climax. I had to suspend a bit too much disbelief at the explanation of things, and it just didn't make sense to me. The writing was still great and easy to follow, but I just wasn't wowed by this one. There seems to be a trend of a stellar installment followed by a couple not so great ones, so I'm hoping that's the case here.

I'm still excited to continue Amy's journey and hope it gets more exciting soon.

Good but ending...

So this one was good BUT the ending was too unbelievable. I don’t want to spoil anything but I had an idea of where it was going quite early on. Still a good story but I had a hard time suspending my disbelief on this one. I’m reading these as an adult because I loved the first few as a tween and want to see where this heads before my daughter gets to that point and wants to read these. So far it’s a fun series and I would recommend it to tweens. This one has a premise of a tween club that someone is starting and it’s all fun all the time, and there’s talk of kids only liking things because their parents don’t (for example a band). Not quite the values I want to promote to my children but the story is fun and otherwise quite innocent.

What is with the 90s and its obsession with scaring kids straight about drugs? This is like the second or third instance in the series where drug prevention takes center stage. Anyway, I liked that the cause of the fever was tied to something you could suspect if you were reading closely but also when it was revealed I was like oh, i didn’t think of that. Again, rereading as an adult, Amy being twelve is really questionable to me considering the plot in this book. Still a solid read for me, but not one of my favorites in the series.

this is a fun one! I like the taste of Amy being normal and I like the bigger drug picture, although it might come across as a little bit patronising.

The replica series were a part of my childhood. I was only able to find and read the first 7 books of this series. I think Kaye's replica series are one of the best teen series, now I am very happy that I can find more replica series books via amazon. However, unlike the other Amy's story, I kind of already guessed the ending just after reading the first few pages of this book. The clue is a bit too obvious, and even if I am still a teenage, I may finding the ending is easy to guess. Anyway, it is a very good teenage book. Will keep reading.
