A Wild Calling

Rate this book
‘It is time for a new beginning…’
These are the words May writes at the close of The Magic Of Wild Things .
A Wild Calling is that new beginning. It’s the story of May’s shape-shifting journey deep into the earth, of rebirth and her travels beyond time to find her kin. Part adventure, part meditation, new-old magic guides her way. As May’s mother tells, ‘We will have to look for ourselves again’. If we are truly to appreciate what is needed to sustain the planet, we have to re-wild and heal our fractured relationships with our animal selves.

May once lived in a small, stone cottage among the forests of the fae, with Jack, her Oak King. They raised their daughter in rhythm with the seasons until Developers shattered their world, leaving Jack-in-the-Green and his May Queen adrift, broken and homeless. This prose-poem incantation is the story of their mutual healing.

Through ice, rock, fire and water, May, the fearless ecowarrior, quests to reconnect with herself and her tree-man. She meets an extraordinary cast of wise women, dragons, demons, wizards, wolves, selkies and swans. They become her teachers. In a story charged with drama and enchantments, May learns to move on, and to find her place of calm.

A Wild Calling is a celebration of love; of love for mother, love for child and love for Jack, the Green Man - and the fertile world he represents. It is a story of forgiveness and redemption, and of the bonds that hold. This alchemical tale of recovery brings together a vibrant mix of myth, place and ecofeminism. Above all, this is a story of hope.

This edition includes a short essay that explores how yoga philosophies, lessons from ‘nature’ and creativity weave together to brighten our path.
