The night before the political rally where Governor Paxson will be addressing an assembly of cattlemen, maintenance supervisor Henry Sterkel is working late, with malfunctioning stage lights at the convention center. And Henry isn't alone. Stunning, sexy Pete hasn't yet punched the clock ... and now, the best advice to Henry would be, "Expect the unexpected." The very unexpected!

P.D. Singer lived in Colorado with her slightly bemused husband, one young adult, and seventy-nine pounds of pets. She was a big believer in research, first-hand if possible, so the reader can be quite certain PD skied down a mountain face-first, had been stepped on by rodeo horses, acquired a potato burn or two, and rethought a novel that included sky-diving.

When not writing, playing her fiddle, or walking the sheddiest member of the family, she could be found with a book in hand.

This is a very short erotica piece with self-professed nerd Henry preparing for the big political rally the next day. He knows lots of the guys at work don’t like him because he’s young and the boss, but he is determined NOTHING will go wrong the next day. He’s surprised when young guy Pete shows up, and to his shock, makes a very obvious play for Henry. Although he wants Henry to go home with him immediately after, Henry stays to finish his tasks and you start to wonder if this is the beginning of something good for Henry.

I liked Henry, he is nerdy, but he’s smart and capable, and where he could be intimidated by the older buff workmen who don’t respect him and try to avoid doing what he tells them, he’s not afraid to tell them where things stand. However his insecurity about Pete’s attraction was also there lurking below his capable work persona. You don’t know much about Pete and I was a bit surprised that they both agreed to have condomless sex, but really, how many people have condoms at work?

Okay, I’m not going to say what happens at the end, but you know on blogs how they give this symbol to indicate surprise? O_O Um, yeah, that was me. Now you’re all dying to know, and cruelly I won’t tell you because I am going to make you all go to the GLBT Bookshelf Rummage Sale (click the publisher link above) and pick this one up for a dollar. I “think” the author wrote this specifically for the sale as it’s the only place I could find it on the site, and it’s copyright for 2011 so written fairly recently. In light of some of the things that have been happening in US politics I thought it was a thought-provoking piece, after I got past the big eyes and dropped jaw.

This is certainly not a traditional romance, but I do enjoy the author’s writing style and voice and the ending made this something a bit more than just a piece of erotica.

Oh, really enjoyed this one, especially the ending, which I wasn't expecting. And all proceeds go to support the GLBT Wiki! What's not to love?

As it ended, I wouldn't call it romance. Without something more, I have to assume the MC was seduced to distract him from the tampering, and nothing more. Disappointing when I was expecting romance, or at the least a bit of happy, satisfying smut. The sex was fine, but it was sullied with the implication that it was only another tool.

Not that it was terrible, but it seemed like the middle of a story, and was left unfinished.
