“War torn countries have a way of pulling me into their vortex. It can be exciting, but I’m not sure if it’s good for me in the long run. But hey, no one lives forever.”
Meet Matias “Mako” Wright, an ex-Navy Seal, Cowboy and all around a beast of a man.
He has been working for the Agile Securiy-Rescue team for quite some time.
He has been tasked to find the last missing sibling of Simona and Wolf - their sister Erika “Artemis” Cerna.
Tho he has been searching for over an year, luck (and Erika) as evade him. But the ex-seal is stubborn and won’t give up until is mission is complete.
“I study the image that I don’t have to examine anymore. She’s tattooed on my brain now.”
Mako has been obsessed with his mission in more ways than one. He’s completely obsessed with the photo he carries in his pocket. He knows Erika is the one for him and he can’t wait to be face to face with the blond beauty.
“She’s a living angel. The picture was pathetic compared to the real thing.
If I was in total and utter admiration of that photo, I’m in serious trouble for the real thing. She’s knee-buckling gorgeous, and there’s not a drop of makeup, not a hint of lipstick, not a curling iron in miles.
Fuck, that’s refreshing.”
Erika is a living angel for real. The doctor, has been working hard to help victims of traffic and is trying to dismantle a trafficking ring with the help of her fellow rebel.
She’s though, courageous and driven!
“A war like this is hard to win.”
Her eyes snap into hard focus. “That’s no reason to quit. That’s every reason to go harder.”
She’ll stop at nothing to help those less fortunate. Meaning not even a fearless attraction to Mako, will step in her way.
“What are you made of, lead? No wait, let me guess, petrified cow shit. You are from Texas after all.”
I loved Mako and Erika as a couple. Tho they had their differences and they both were super stubborn, we could see from the start that they were a great match for each other.
“That’s called an erection, in case you don’t remember from anatomy class. And it happens when a man is insanely attracted to someone.”
Her eyes flicker to mine. “It also happens when someone gets a TBI, when a stiff wind blows, and when mosquitos chase you, apparently.”
Love, love, loved their banter, their unusual beginning and the explosive chemistry.
I loved how Erika was so driven and kept Mako on his toes.
“Life always brings hope. Even if it’s just for a short bit. A little ray of sunshine in the dark.”
I loved this book, but I felt the ending was a little rushed.
I’d have liked a more extensive and detailed coverages on Makos mission with Leandra. Would’ve loved to have read about Erika’s first conversation with her siblings, their first encounter and so one.
Also would’ve loved a little bit more about her and Makos life after they returned.
