Archie Americana Series: Best of the Eighties is a nice little collection that hits some high and low notes of 1980s fashion and pop culture. The gang explores 80s pop culture topics like break dancing, punk music, roller disco, Michael Jackson, Bruce Springsteen, Trivial Pursuit, Wheel of Forture, and ET.
We're talking about Archie here so there's not a whole lot else to tell. Nobody learns any valuable lessons.
Apart from Rex Lindsey getting credit for the cover, there are no other credits listed in this. The issues of the Archie books the stories are pulled from are listed, though, so one could figure out who drew what if they were so inclined. Chances are it's all Rex Lindsey, Stan Goldberg, and Dan DeCarlo, though. And there are page numbers for once!
Archie Americana Series: Best of the Eighties is an interesting look at the best and worst of 1980s pop culture through the Archie lens. 4 out of 5 burgers.
The American youth had more access to disposable income than in any other previous decade. So say hello to new fashion trends from the Preppie look to the Punk Rock movement. Bo Derek’s hairstyle was rocked with scary caution by the diva, Veronica Lodge. John Travolta’s dreamy reign continued while the Urban Cowboy raised a whole new generation of fans. Archie has a visitor from another galaxy in an ode to E.T’s epic run. Betty OWNS the Flash Dance trend with her quirky home video and rap music comes to the rescue of The Archies during a slump. Watch Michael Jackson’s unknown influence on The Archies and play a game of *Trivial Pursuit* as it takes on a life of its own. Betty also runs into her idol, Bruce Springsteen with unexpected hitches.
The Eighties was a fun, cheesy and endearing decade and the team from Riverdale does justice to it.
