Saving the world is no child’s play in this dark and chilling mecha manga series.
One summer, fifteen kids innocently wander into a nearby seaside cave. There they meet a strange man who invites them to play an exciting new video game. This game, he explains, pits one lone giant robot against a horde of alien invaders. To play the game, all they have to do is sign a simple contract. The game stops being fun when the kids find out the true purpose of their pact.
Having no interest in boys her own age, young Chizu develops a crush on her schoolteacher. After a few tentative secret dates, her relationship with the older man takes an unexpected and violent twist. When Chizu finally takes control of Zearth, she's got two things on her save the planet and exact her revenge on her ex-lover.
Minor spolier ahead. This book ended the minor backstory arc for a few characters. I feel like the series is now better off and back to what the first book gave an impression of. I will continue to read the story until the end.
My general thoughts so far is that the premise is really good but the writing has not lived up to it. But the conclusion to the story that started in the previous volume is so bad i had to leave a review.
**Spoilers for the start of this volume** "You must never say you are going to kill someone" "if you let hate consume you, you'll just make yourself miserable". really? Are you really saying that to your underage sister that just revealed that your adult boyfriend left her pregnant? And is the author really saying that to the readers about the character we know was manipulated and raped by multiple people because of this person?
If you are gonna use such a heavy subject for your story at least think about it a little and treat it with respect. Using it just to say "revenge bad" in the most generic way in a situation where revenge is absolutely justified is disgusting.
Anyway... the next kid story is ok i guess. back to the usual of what we've seen from this series.
These kids are way more mature than they should be at their age. As it stands none of them have really had an easy life save for maybe Kodama but he was a strange bird so who knows. We don't really get to see much into his life except for his love for his father.
And now there are two adults who have entered into the contract after the kids realized they were short two pilots. Koyemshi is speaking to someone we can't see when the kids aren't in the cockpit. He's an evil little fucker it seems. So far my theories about the robot don't seem to be holding true so it shows how much I know about stuff!
When you read about what happened to Chizu, who fell in love with her teachers, it really feels like this skewing more and more towards an older audience. That being said Chizu is one of the best characters of the series so far. Also, more fights!
