Global traveller Lydia Laube had out her map again. Where could she go next? Her eye fell on one place she hadn't visited - Laos, the Land of a Million Elephants.
After enduring a close call with Thai immigration officials, Lydia made it into Laos, and discovered a people and land easy to love. Travelling by boat, tuk tuk or any other means possible, she experienced the majesty of the Mekong River, the awe-inspiring Caves of the Buddha and the mysterious Plain of Jars.
Pink umbrella aloft, nothing could daunt our lone traveller - not even fire and flood.
Lydia Laube never says no to adventure, whether that means galloping a horse across the Mongolian plains or hopping on a cargo ship to Madagascar. Born into the farming community of Caltowie in the mid-north of South Australia, Lydia trained as a nurse in Adelaide, then set off to see the world. Her debut book, 'Behind the Veil: An Australian nurse in Saudi Arabia', was an instant bestseller, and she has become one of Australia's favourite travel writers. 'From Burma to Myanmar' is Lydia's ninth travel yarn.
Between winter escapes to the sun, Lydia Laube shares a small house in Adelaide with a large cat with attitude.
Another great read from Lydia. I love her gentle humour, her way of dealing with the difficult, and her enthusiasm for telling her story. I love how much information about the country she goes to she passes on. I do hope she keeps writing and travelling... I will definately keep on reading! Highly recommended.
Lydia is intrepid and sees the best in every situation. I like the way she does not belabour the bad stuff and just gets on with it. Full of spirit and fun. I enjoyed her travels around a little known country.
