A bedrock textbook. A painstaking review of the theoretical literature on a difficult to nail down subject done brilliantly. He has super-fine attention to nuance and awesome overview. His depth perception clears up the confusion and puts emotion right where it must be - at the center of experience.
A challenging but necessary read.

Great systemic research, a perfect example of a student’s work of ordering all the existing literature on a special subject that occupies his mind, as well as a reflection on the trends and diversity of this literature. Less of a revolutionary ideology and literature language that Hillman developed later in his career, this books represents a great inspiration for studies and a perfect way to organize a chaos of history of a question into a very logical and orderly structure.

Thorough even handed look at emotion

A fruitful read. We tend to view emotion through the eyes of our temperament. This work gets at the topic from all sides and presents a comprehensive synthesis of many perspectives with a treasure house of implications.
