I’m a big fan of silly rhymes in children’s books. Not only is it fun to read (aloud or to yourself), kids love it. Hawksley reminds me of Dr. Seuss in that he awakens the imagination in every reader and is a very talented artist. His illustrations are very colorful and the wording is easy for anyone to understand. In this one, his subject is hats and it’s a cute one. My favorite one has to be this joke – What kind of hats do penguins wear? Ice caps! Highly recommend! Ideal for ages 3 – 6.

Cute, fun and informative, too. Wonderful choice of words in rhyme, just right for beginner readers. My grandchildren like the vocabulary words that connect to every day objects that they're familiar with. The book is very engaging for parents and children, ages 3-6. It's a simple story to understand with very cute illustrations. Our favorite line, "If you have some music - do a little dance."

‘A silly rhyming picture book’
I’m always on the lookout for good children’s books to add to my Kindle library. Some books don’t translate well to Kindle and that, in my experience, goes particularly for children’s books, but this one works perfectly. The simple, clearly defined illustrations are well suited to ebook format and even though I read it on my Kindle Paperwhite, therefore no colour, it still worked well ( and my little grandson agreed!)

The little rhymes are indeed very silly.

The illustrations in If You Have a Hat are fun for young children. The rhyme is good and the beat works. All of the examples of what do do with things a young child would have is age appropriate except one and that is the airplane. Unless the child lives in France, a preschool child does not have the experience to understand that France is a country far away. The concept of distance is restricted to the area where the child lives and they have nothing to relate to traveling so far to a foreign country. The four-year-olds in my class are still dealing with understanding that they live in a state in a country with fifty states when they are just learning to count to ten. Maps are just lines on a drawing so that is not a way to teach a preschool age child about distances and other far away places. I don't think this makes the book inappropriate for preschool age children but the adults reading it should be ready to answer questions, if they come up from this one page. The rest of the book is excellent to talk about what we use things for and to expand vocabulary and have fun reading.

Cute illustrations, catchy words, great for beginner readers

This is my fourth or fifth book by mr hawksley. Aside from the cute and child friendly illustrations, it’s not only funny but the way how he words the text on his books somehow helps children in decoding ( based from experience), I used his book a number of times with my students.

Fantastic young reader.

After being at home for most of kindergarten this book was perfect. It was easy, since she could sound out words and the matching picture made it doable. Such a good addition to our reading. Also loved the pages of things to do. I'd give it a five star plus rating. Thanks so much.

This is such a cute rhyming book beginning each page with a 'If you have a...' illustrations are colourful and cute which draw children's attention to the storyline. There's some fun puzzles at end of book! The experts all agreed 'if you have a book it's time to read this!'

Cute Picture Book

My rating is 3.5

Very basic picture book for toddlers and first readers. The pictures are bright. Which is always a bonus.

One of the biggest things I didn't agree with is the bed bug bit. Bed bugs are bad, and shouldn't be seen as cute.

I enjoyed seeing other works coming up by the author as previews at the back of the book.

Not much to this book. It randomly says "if you have a _____ then ...
It really just gives an example of what you could or should do with the item in question. A bandaid, a smile, a seed, brick. It doesn't really have any other theme or flow.

Cute list story, great illustrations but what children are likely to love most are the jokes and quizzes found at the end of the book with more entertaining illustrations.
