This is an easy-breezy read that's chock-full of rapid-fire wit. Lots of laughs...and rich with innovative ideas, too, such as the guy who is "13th Bullet Bulletproof" in the opening strip. The artwork makes it great. How darkly hilarious! Not all characters are created equal, however. There is some creativity presented here that just doesn't have the same impact as a few other strips do. But the content that does work works wonderfully.
Standouts for me:
The Grim Leaper (a man who can jump over anything on Earth, but the downside to it is that he can only jump once...which presents one fatal, funny result)
Pantsformer (a sexually fueled man who has the ability to morph himself into any type of pants at any time he wants, including during times of promiscuous cheating)
Tele-Apathy (the unique superpower of hearing the pointless thoughts of people...nothing exciting at all, just the ho-hum mundane going on in the brain)
Flawgic (a guy who can flawlessly argue his point in a clear and concise manner, but only with his aggressively emotional girlfriend who won't even listen for a second)
Those are just four examples. Probably my favorites. Another thing I loved about this B&W illustration book is how it'd incorporate fake newspaper articles about the useless "superheroes" and their questionable abilities throughout. That was a nice touch.
If you can pick this one up on the cheap, I'd say it's worth it just for a couple of specific giggles alone.
A parting thought...the idea behind Slumberjack is pretty damn brilliant. It's when you have the ability to gain superhuman strength once you hit REM sleep. So, you begin to destroy anything and everything around you while sleepwalking. That unique concept really should become an episodic series soon. Fingers are currently crossed.
