I read this book in December 1978 and wrote about it then, "Excellent, especially for early teens. Scriptural."
I have just reread the book and concur with my earlier assessment though I think all ages can enjoy it [I certainly did]. The depth of Scriptural truths woven seamlessly into the book seem even more impressive- perhaps because my knowledge has increased in the 40 years+ since I first read it.

Well, of all the stories the Bible illustrates us, this is one of the most famous and widely known. This book was a good read since it is actually a writing meant for children, so I didn't have to struggle through lines. It was fun and it reminded me of the stories I used to read when I was a child. It was really good to go back in time and enjoy some time of great happiness by going through my memories.
Regarding the book, I have to add that I consider very brave of David to go through all of that trouble and always keep his faith in his God. It is very clear that not everyone today has that kind of faith, not only in God, but also in people. David trusted in his God but he always kept hope in Saul's repentance; the very man that was trying to kill him! Who of us might have the faculty of forgiving someone even during the act of being persecuted by that someone?
I think we can get a very good message from this beautiful book, and some wise advice too.
