Not with a bang..
A deadly virus, and it only affects the United States? I call no way. There is no way that this deadly, highly communicable virus would not get out to other countries, but that's what happens in this book. America is quickly shut down and quarantined, and that's the reason the virus is supposedly contained in the continental USA.
Jen starts a journal so that in the future people can read it and know what happened. Most people get sick and die quickly. Some, like Jen, are immune. Some are carriers, and are considered to be highly dangerous. Anyone who hasn't been exposed to the virus are naturally afraid of the carriers, and want them all exterminated.
The USA is falling apart, so Jen and what's left of her family band together with another group to try and survive.
Results: the ending of this book was left kind of open, so I thought there might be a second book, but apparently not.
I wasn't really happy with this, as it left a lot of questions unanswered, and what happened at the end didn't make a lot of sense.
For those of you who are concerned, there was a little cursing, but no graphic sex or violence. There is violence, of course, but you could read this to your grandmother without embarrassment.
