The second fantastic thriller from the newest voice in Scottish crime fiction - the brilliant G J Moffat
Logan Finch has made a new life for himself with his daughter Ellie. But a blossoming relationship with DC Rebecca Irvine is about to be put to the test when Irvine's old flame, drug-addicted rock star Roddy Hale, enters her life again. And then there's the small matter of a professional killer following her every move. Alex Cahill, close-protection operative and ex-US army special-forces soldier, hates babysitting celebrities. Maybe this time will be different. Tara Byrne is a Scots girl about to break into Hollywood and is back in Scotland for the premiere of a low-budget film as a favour for a friend. She is the target of a disturbed stalker and needs Cahill and his team to watch her back. As the clouds roll in to blanket the sky at the end of an Indian summer, violence erupts all round, putting everyone at risk. For Logan, there are impossible choices to be made: between his best friend and the woman he loves. Between who lives and who dies...
This book really kept my interest to the end, after midway I couldn’t put it down. However, it’s another sequel, which I didn’t know until the characters kept bringing up their previous “adventure” and I was a little distracted thinking bout what may happened during that story. All in all, an action packed story with many turns and twists
So when I started this book, I didn't realise that it was the second in a series, so some things I may not have liked about this book are possibly because of that. Also, spoilers in this review, so don't read if you haven't read the book.
So, overall, I enjoyed this book. I did think the minor sex scene between Logan and Irvine was a bit unnecessary, but perhaps if I'd read the first book, I'd find it appropriate or even long overdue. :P I also wonder if I would have picked up on Gabriel Weiss being behind things earlier if I'd read the first book; as it was, I had no idea who he was until he showed himself to Logan. :P
Overall, good writing, and a good story. I quite enjoyed it, and shall now go and seek out the first book.
Follow-up to Daisy Chain which you really should read first or it will make no sense. Very easy read even though it is slighly unbelievable at times. For the next one though Gary, you need to think of another scenario or move onto another character.
DO NOT READ THIS UNLESS YOU HAVE READ DAISY CHAIN I didn't even read the blurb for this before I finished the first so as not to have the ending revealed. More relationships and interaction and just as much action, lots of tension and impossible to predict the ending.
This was a guilty pleasure really. Although the story is essentially hokum, Moffat does have a skill in keeping up the tension, and it is certainly a page turner.
