Re-entry can be one of the most difficult seasons in the life of a missionary worker. At least that was my experience. I thought I knew what I was getting into as I returned to my home country. I was wrong! Returning to America became one of the hardest seasons of my life. I specifically remember sitting in my room a few months in, thinking that we had given up everything to move our family of six overseas, and this was what we got in return? I had no one to guide me through this season who could understand my pain. Then God took me on a journey, which led me to write a trauma recovery series entitled Renewed Hope . A few years into using Renewed Hope with clients, I noticed some common themes from people transitioning through re-entry. They were questioning their vocational path, grappling with the loss of their identity, losing strong connections with friends and family, wondering where they fit into their local church, and even questioning what they believed. I watched people who could have been helped during the re-entry process, but who ended up leaving missions - and some even left their faith altogether. So I decided to adapt my Renewed Hope series for missionaries going through re-entry.
This series is divided into three workbooks, each of which will guide you through a different season of re-entry. We will begin with Restore, move on to Receive, and finish with Rebuild.
In Restore, you will use trauma principles to check in with yourself and spend time processing the past. You will gain tools for processing your grief and loss, you will spend time in the practice of lament, and you will learn about forgiveness. These three spiritual practices will help you process this transition season.
