I'm starting to get really tired of books with cliffhangers. It's should say so in the description before you buy it. So this is yet another series that I don't think should be a trilogy and I'm not going to finish it.

All three of these books are first in series with cliffhangers. I really do love the IVI Secret Society series by both A. Zavarelli and Natasha Knight. I would consider all of them light-dark, likable realistic characters, well thought out plots. Would recommend them all.

Requiem of the Soul:
‘She will be mine to do with as I please. Mine to take. Touch. Torment. And horrify.’
Ivy is 12 years younger than her new husband Santiago. They both have physical abnormalities, her eye is oddly shaped and his body/face is burned from a fire. Forced into marriage, Ivy is trying to find a way out. Santi is looking for revenge but also can’t deny his attraction. The book gave me a very beauty and the beast vibe.
There are a lot of things I liked about it with Santi’s alpha/dominant personality, Ivy’s sweet nature and virginal status. But the scene felt too slow and dragged and I found myself bored half the time. It did not have a lot of spicy scenes. I will read the next book since I am intrigued but hope the story moves a little faster.
HIS RULE:
“You can submit. You just need someone to guide you.”
Mercedes is impulsive, spoiled and arrogant. Judge has been given ‘The Rite’ to tame her since she unalived a person. While Judge has done this before, he can’t fight his attraction to Mercedes. And since she likes to push buttons she makes it even harder.
I like how dominant and alpha Judge is and his punishments 👋. Mercedes has her own trauma which led to her behavior but in the end she is lonely and wants love. Some of her actions didn’t make sense where she is so desperate to run from Judge that she will do so naked through a forest with her hands bound, which means there is NO WAY she can escape. But then within hours she wants him to touch her in the bathtub.

A Taste of Dark Romance: A Dark Romance Collection. This collection of dark romance stories are great! Two of the stories connect and give you an incite into the Society World. The third book still takes you into the secret world of the mafia and crime. Requiem of the Soul lets you know how lies and secrets takes people into revenge mode. Santiago is set on revenge when he is scarred in the face as well as his father and brother killed by an explosion he thinks is committed by another family in the Society. He takes revenge on the family. His Rule is about Santiago's sister, Mercedes having to come to grips with the fact that Santiago is happy with Ivy, who she thinks is still the enemy that killed her father and brother. His is a different story but still about crime families, Russian. Katerina goes into the wrong bar and meets Levka. Their relationship gets strained and he has to try and protect her from danger. She returns with a package that Levka knows belongs to him. These are starter books to series of books you just got to read. I know I am going to read all the books connected. This is a great collection to have!

Three separate, well written introductions to three separate stories within a very dark world. Certainly, the stage is well set and the intended sense of darkness is pervasive.
And therein lies my problem: Its so dark, its depressing. Hopeless. And there is not one character I like. Even a tiny bit. There is no antihero(ine) to appreciate, to care about or pull for.
Three stars for good writing and the ability to create and sustain the...ambience. But personally, I have to like someone; I have to see potential, and I don't even care enough to look for it with these characters.
