The Bohonnan Witches #1

Rhiannon's Circle

Rate this book
Eilish Bohannon is the witch destined to lead the coven, but only if her older sister doesn’t kill her first.

Set in Charleston, SC, the Bohannons lead a coven whose legendary powers date back to ancient Ireland. In each generation, one witch is destined to rise to High Priestess. Oldest sister, Seraphina, is certain the role is hers and will do anything to ensure Eilish doesn’t interfere with her plans.

Even if it means getting rid of her baby sister for good.

If Eilish is to survive and claim her rightful role, she’ll need the support of her middle sister, Anya, and a lot of help in the form of a vampire named Ian Cross…who was seemingly placed right in her path by the goddess Rhiannon. Their attraction to each other is immediate. Searing. And, ultimately, forbidden, since no coven will follow a Priestess who has bonded with his kind.

On their quest to find the answers needed to stop Seraphina, they consult with one of the oldest members of the coven, a crone named Henwen, who presents them with another problem – a Bohannon grimoire exists and has been purposefully hidden. Eilish and Anya will need to find the book if they have any chance of survival…

…as it holds the power of the Bohannon coven and can only be controlled by the witch destined to own it.

This dark and imaginative paranormal story by International Bestselling Author Emily Bex has romance as hot as a steamy Charleston summer with a pinch of Wiccan magic, a little mystery, and a lot of murder.

Will be honest, struggled to get into this one but once I was, I couldn't put it down. Now I can wait for book two to see what happens next and how it ends.
Love how Rhiannon's Circle has some old glimpses of The Medici books in them. Keeps the spark alive for me :-)

Started out kind of campy and a little trashy, but turned into Sweet Valley High meets over sexed witches. Sucker punched me with a cliffhanger ending so I feel forced to read the next book.

Oh, my dear lord…Emily Bex has spawned another huge massive hit~ Three witch sisters, Seraphina, Anya, and Eilish, all powerful in their individual ways. Fina runs the coven as the High Priestess. Anya’s specialty is healing…Eilish is still discovering hers. When their parents were murdered, Anya and Eilish were five and under. Fina, in her twenties, took over everything and raised them. There are from Ireland where their family was exiled for too much power. The Bohannon’s came to Charleston, South Carolina to start over. No one has questioned Fina and the way she runs things; until now. The sisters kept a rigid schedule for the shop they own, traditions, rites, rituals, and celebrations with the coven. Eilish and Anya have both met someone; human and vampire; both against the rules~ The women will have to come up with ruses so they can spend time with them and ensure the safety of all. When they make a trip to the swamps, they discover a hidden secret that will change everything. Now, they have to find the one thing that will change the course of their destinies; even death~ Do they really know their older sister? What has she done and what is her end game? Fina, and her handfasted mate, Warrick, are trying to force Eilish to handfast with his nephew, Zavian. But, as they will start learning, you cannot force Eilish to do anything. Both sides have sinister secrets and plots~ Who will be the victors and in the end what will it cost both sides, the coven, and the two males that own the sisters hearts?

Eilish doesn't want the life her sister wants her to have. Her older sister raised her and her sister Anya when their parents died. Eilish is determined not to follow what is set up by her sister, she feels nothing for the person she picked. When she runs into Ian, a vampire, her world is turned upside down.

Anya figures that no one wants her. She stands with her sister in whatever decided she makes with the vampire. She just wants to find someone that wants her too. When Anya saves the live of Carter, a human, she knows she will stand and fight anyone to be with him.

Fina tries to run her sisters life and makes demands of them. Fina and her husband are determined to keep the coven under their thumb. Things are not going the way they are supposed to and slowly her sisters will see her for what she is. Fina is not one to trifle with as she will do whatever she needs to stay where she is.

I have to say this is the first book of Emily's that I have read. I am so happy that I took that chance, it was amazing. This book is well written, the characters just reach out to you. There are some really small reveals that build to the larger ones, it just hooks you right in. I really enjoyed every second of reading this book and want the second book now. I can't wait to see what happens next for these characters and what else is in store for them. I highly recommend reading.

I had to think about how to review this book. Honestly, I have not read many books about witches and wizards. I tried a few, but I just couldn't seem to get into them. This book completely changed my mind about this genre.

This book is completely riveting. It's very well written, full of suspense, action packed, amazing characters, steamy and keeps you reading and you can't put it down.

This book is about a family with many secrets. The oldest sister Fina raised her two younger sisters after her mother and father's death. She is the head priestess of their coven. She has kept terrible secrets from her two sisters and their coven. Fina and Warrick who is hand-fasted to Fina, will find out secrets do not stay secrets forever. I absolutely do not like these two. In this story they are definitely villains.

Eilish is sweet kind and down to earth she is a girl you can see as a friend. She is being trained to take over the coven when she is older. They are trying to force her to hand-fast with Warricks nephew Zavian. I don't see this happening. Eilish will fall in love with a vampire and Anya falls for a human. Which both are strictly forbidden.

Anya is a healer. She makes me laugh, she is smart, sassy and doesn't take crap. You will love her. She will always have Eilish's back. These two sisters have a strong bond.

As you can see, I could talk forever about this book. I really loved that the author mentioned the Medici Warrior series. That series is one of my all time favorites. If you are looking for a book which will stay in your mind after you have read it, this book is for you. It is a story that will hook you immediately and I can guarantee, I will read this book again. I can't wait to read the next book and see where the author takes the story!

4.5⭐️📚Synopsis:
Eilish Bohannon is one of three witch sisters tied to old Irish magic, and she might be the one meant to become the next High Priestess. The problem? Her oldest sister Seraphina wants that power too, and she will do anything to claim it for herself. Caught in the middle of the power struggle, Eilish finds herself drawn to Ian Cross, a vampire she has no business falling for. As tensions rise, Ellish and her sister Anya set out to find a missing Bohannon grimoire that could change everything.

📚My Thoughts:
This book mixes magic, sister drama, and a touch of forbidden romance in a really entertaining way. Charleston adds a beautifully eerie Southern-gothic atmosphere, and the tension between the Bohannon sisters keeps the story moving. Eilish is easy to root for, and her connection with lan adds just the right amount of paranormal heat. Once the plot kicks in, it's hard to put down. Perfect if you want a witchy read with family conflict, mystery, and a little danger with your romance.

📚Final Verdict:
I absolutely loved this book and can’t wait to dive into the second half of the duology. The insta-love isn’t my favorite trope, but it didn’t take away from my enjoyment at all.

Huge thanks to author Emily Bex for sending me copies of this duology, they made me so homesick for Charleston. I’ll definitely be checking out her Medici Warrior series next. Her books are available on KU, in paperback and hardcover, and the audiobooks are now out on Audible. I highly recommend giving them a try!

Rhiannon's Circle by Emily Bex is the first book in "The Bohannon Witches Duology" and it dives headfirst into a world of magic, family drama, and forbidden romance. The story centers on Eilish Bohannon, the youngest of three sisters, thrust into a fight for leadership of their coven against her ambitious older sister, Seraphina.
It is a fun and fast-paced read, perfect for those who enjoy witchy themes with a dash of paranormal romance. If you're looking for an entertaining urban fantasy with a strong female lead, magical battles, and a touch of forbidden love, then Rhiannon's Circle is worth checking out. Just be prepared for a cliffhanger at the end.
Enchanting Book Strengths: The world building is full of Celtic lore and witchcraft along with a few interesting twists on the usual vampire mythology.
There is a lot of focus on family meals, Southern cooking traditions, and food talk. (There is even a companion recipe book that has been published.)
The rivalry between Eilish and Seraphina is a central conflict, keeping the plot interesting with twists and betrayals.
The forbidden love aspect of the romance between a witch and a vampire adds a layer of danger and intrigue.

A little disappointed...

I read this book because I absolutely loved the Medici series, but this book was a little disappointing! It was slow to get into and I felt like I was reading about a bunch of teenagers when they were all in there mid to later 20's. It felt very juvenile. There wasn't much build up, everyone just kind of fell into a relationship and love and understanding right away and the sex scenes were very PG! I felt Elish was to docile to Serafina and needed more balls! Serafina ran all over those girls without much push back. The story got better about 3/4 of the way through, but I found myself wishing I would just finish this book already! I will definitely read the second book, now that I'm invested, to find out what happens, as a matter of fact, I have already purchased it! I did love all the ceremonies and explanation of the stones, herbs and rituals, but it definitely lacked some excitement! Looking forward to the next book, thank you!

The tale of three witch sisters and their coven but with plenty of twists and surprises.
I couldn't put the book down. Rhianons Circle is the first book in the Bohannon Witches duology and I can't wait to read the second book. Without leaving any spoilers I have to admit that I hope to see two of the characters in book one get punished or brought down for things they have done. This book is written with insight and knowledge. It is apparent that a lot of research went into the book and this enhances the reading experience. A really enjoyable read.

The Bohannon's will cast a spell on you, just pray it's not Fina doing the casting!
Emily's writing has always painted a vivid picture which puts you the reader right the pages. I swear I can pick the Bohannon's house by walking down the street, and hopefully when I look up I'll see sweet yet tormented Emric pacing in the window. The characters are colorful, dramatic and sassy. Hell, they're witches, warlocks, vampires and a human! The storyline will capture you and you'll fall for these TWO sisters, the other one you'll want to stab with your wand! Thank you again for an amazing world Emily Bex!

The Bohannon witches are 3 sisters who have a certain love/hate relationship. This book is a complete page turner. I literally couldn’t put it down. If you like witches, vampires and ghosts with lots of drama, love and excitement then this is the book for you. There are quite a few twists that I didn’t see coming. I think that the main reason why I love Emily Bex’s books so much is the fact that her writing style is one that a normal everyday person can relate to. Pick up this book you will not regret it.

What could be better than vampires? Witches maybe? How about both! Journey with Eilish, Anya and Ian as they search for a book of spells. Fina, the oldest sister is the leader of their coven, but she isn't the true leader. She wants to stay in power and will do whatever it takes to keep it. Eilish and Anya both have their own secrets including certain love interests that are forbidden but together and with the help of a vampire they will do what it takes to find out what has been hidden for so long.

This is a book I recommend that you keep reading even if you have trouble getting into it at the start like I did... it is well and truly worth the perseverance.
This book was very well written and has amazing characters.
There is plenty of suspense and action to keep you invested in the story.
This book is about family and secrets... but secrets have a way of cooking out.
I liked the little throwbacks to the Medici warriors, a previous series.
Looking forward to where book 2 takes us.

Absolutely amazing and can’t believe I have to wait until September to find out how the story ends. Emily Bex is a master storyteller. She weaves the plot in a way that the reader needs to continue just to see where the story goes. I absolutely love that pieces of her first series are sprinkled into the story. Eilish and Ian are the perfect couple. I was cheering for their relationship almost from the moment Ian was introduced and the book ended on a cliffhanger. Brilliant and absolute masterpiece that will be a must read for years to come.

Although I love a good witch and vampire story, this wasn't exactly my cup of tea. That said, it was well written and the plot is good! The story is a bit slower paced book than I am used to and is definitely more atmospheric in nature.
The characters lack a certain depth and dynamic that I was missing. But I love the concept and I love the sisterly drama. Who doesn't? There were a couple of REALLY good twists that I never saw coming too.
So even though it wasn't what I normally would pick up, I enjoyed it and it's definitely worth the read.

I saw an ad on FB about her other series about the Medici Warriors and ended up trying it. I was obsessed. I've reread that series several times. The way she describes things it makes me feel like I'm there. I'm a huge music lover and she always integrates songs into her stories which I love. When I started this series I was a bit skeptical because i was worried it wouldn't live up to the hype I've built in my head about Emily but I was way off. She's becoming a go to author for me. I absolutely loved this book and can't wait for the next. Keep writing Emily!

Good first book in duet.

This book starts out slow, but I kept reading and got into it. Tragedy, betrayal, mystery and a slow burn romance fill these pages. Henwen is my favorite character. She had a small part, and I hope she is in the next story. There are some references to the Medici series. It is well-written with some twists. One twist I saw coming a mile away. I give it four stars because it starts out slow.

This was the first book of this author I read and it definitely won't be the last.
She spun a spell over me with her characters and even though the world building isn't as detailed as a epic fantasy you do not need it, the story keeps you enthralled.
I need to know all the secrets because right now all I have is theory and speculation!.

I love this story and can't wait for the final book in this duology. I had read Emily Bex's Medici Warrior Series and loved it, so I was looking forward to her next release. This story is a complete departure from the Medici story (although there is a reference to the Medici vampires). The story focuses on a family of witches, three sisters at odds over who will lead the coven. It's a blend of romance, mystery, betrayal and suspense.

This book took forever to get through. I was excited to read something with witches and vampires. I thought I would get some Charmed action since it has 3 sisters with witchy powers but it just fell flat. If you had told me the ages of the sisters were 10, 13 and 15 I would have believed you because the writing felt very juvenile. Like when you were 3 and tried walking in your mom’s high heels. I’m glad this was available with my KU membership

With a slow start but a good intrigue, this book was a good vampire-witch romance and mystery. I like the darker ambiance and three sisters' characters. Pick up this book if you are not afraid of a cliffhanger though, otherwise better left until the second comes around! I'm looking forward to the follow-up though...

This book is almost 400 pages. The story could have been told in that number. The plot is revealed fairly early but the story never gets there. You have to buy the next book. I love to buy a second book because the writing is good. I won’t buy a second book to finish a story that should have been in the first.

A witch and a vampire, what could possibly go wrong? Emily writes the best people to hate. I am not sure who I despise more, Seraphina or Warrick. The book is a delicious look into what people will do to stay in power. I can't wait for the final book to see how things play out.
