“I don’t want to be a princess. I don’t want to be pretty. I want to fight!” “But you’re in a castle. You’re in a princess tower.” “Nope! I’m in a…” I try and think of the word I read from Lola’s vocabulary homework. “A fortress.” “A fortress, huh? So you can fight?” “Yup. Made of diamonds.” “Well, of course. You can fight in style.” “Diamonds are the strongest rocks in the world. I want to be a diamond. Pretty and sparkly and strong.” “Then a diamond you’ll be, Delilah.” Lilah started working at Jerzy Girls to find revenge on the family who hurt hers and got so much more than she bargained for. Now just a few months later, she’s infiltrating the family in ways she didn’t expect and doing it alongside Dante Romano, the man who came into her life with more secrets than answers. Can they work together to take down the family and start anew? Will Lilah be able to earn the loyalty of the men before it’s too late?
Morgan is a born and raised Jersey girl, living there with her two boys, toddler daughter, and mechanic husband. She’s addicted to iced espresso, barbecue chips, and Starburst jellybeans. She usually has headphones on, listening to some spicy audiobook or Taylor Swift. There is rarely an in between.
Writing has been her calling for as long as she can remember. There’s a framed ‘page one’ of a book she wrote at seven hanging in her childhood home to prove the point. Her entire life she’s crafted stories in her mind, begging to be released but it wasn’t until recently she finally gave them the reigns.
I’m so grateful you’ve agreed to take this journey with me.
Why did this need a part 2? Half of the first book is Lilah and Dante back and forth in their: "trust me, I have a plan". If I have to read that sentence once more, I'll combust. And the fucking irony was about Lilah trying to leave her tower and good girl act when Dante asks from her to be exactly just that, to fit into some role that's not her, so they can get everything together in the grand scheme of things.
At this point I don't care about his masterplan. It just got boring and dragged too long.
Good conclusion! Would've loved some more action towards the end, though 🤫 Dante and Lilah are super cute together but you can't tell me that everyone didn't know they were fucking 😭
Ugh this was so much fun! My complaints are basically the same as the first installment…definitely could have used another round or two of editing. Lots of spelling and grammar errors, unnecessarily long sentences, and repetitive dialogue. But I still loved the end of Dante and Lilah’s journey!
What a beautiful ending to Lilah and Dante’s story. I’m sad their story is over but I couldn’t have imagined a better ending to their story. Lilah is truly one of the most bada$$ fmc I have ever encountered, and the way Dante worshiped the ground Lilah walked on and supported everything she did and reminded her how much a queen she is???? SWOOOOON. I love Dante (and his filthy mouth🤭). This is my second mafia book I have ever read, and I think it was perfectly done, and a refreshing twist to mafia books. It was light and spicy, whereas most mafia books are dark and twisted. Bravo, Morgan on another great book.
happy release day to book 2 of the mastermind duet!! i loved these books! i’m not usually a mafia girly… i think i get confused by all the family ties and who’s the head of this family, who’s in charge of who. i think the first book really built the foundation for book 2! we were left on quite the cliffy in book one…
but BOOK 2!! my word i want to be delilah. she is one strong bad a$$. i want the fire and sass has. also DANTE>> the way he would burn down the world for her just to sit at her feet. wow 🥵🔥 he anticipates her every move and emotion and she might love it and hate it at the same time 😂 the way they are so possessive over each other. only critiques are some things felt a little repetitive between them. loved getting to see ben and lola in this book and really getting to know all these characters!
even if you aren’t usually a mafia fan, I HIGHLY recommend this duet from morgan elizabeth! she has such a wide range in her writing! don’t worry you get all the sweet AAAND spicy bits!
4.6 ⭐️ Morgan did it again! I think this may have been my favorite of her books so far….which is saying something!
If you loved Ivory Tower, you will love this wrap up to Delilah and Dante’s story. Lilah really came into herself in this one and I was LOVING the girl power through the book. You get the sweet, spicy, and loving moments between the main characters, on top of feeling like you are immersed in A Sopranos episode. I could NOT put it down.
I will say a few bits felt a little repetitive, but I am an ARC reader, so that may be ironed out by publication.
I would recommend this series to even those who do not usually read Mafia romance, me being one of them, it’s a great introduction into the genre!
-4.5- Read this in one sitting and it’s a good ending to the series. I loved the multiple time jumps in the epilogue so we got to see them older. It’s not really dark but it is still a mafia romance so check trigger warnings. Definitely will be reading more Morgan Elizabeth now that I’ve read this duet.
I’m in my Morgan Elizabeth Era! I was frothing at the mouth to get my hands on the finale to Dante and Delilah’s story and I devoured it in no time at all. I really lucked out that I picked up the first in the series, Ivory Tower, just a week or so before the release of the second. I don’t know what I would have done if I had to wait any longer! This story had so many twists, turns, betrayals, and redemptions - I honestly had no idea how this story would end, though obviously, I was gunning for a HEA! I couldn’t be happier to see where these two ended up and the life they built together. I have never read a mafia romance before this series and I don’t know where to go from here. If you have any recommendations, let me know!
Thank you, Robin (@readwithrobin) for reading along with me! I seriously loved sharing our reactions as we went. I definitely recommend having someone to read this series with because the number of times I needed to share my excitement/shock/horror was excessive!
“You are mine, Delilah. Don’t you ever forget that,”
Dante and Delilah are true soulmates. I was so excited to finally complete the story after reading the first book in the duet. Dante and Delilah got their happy ending that they deserved. The mastermind duet is definitely different from what Morgan normally writes but it was amazing! Delilah is one of the strongest female characters I know. When she sets a goal she meets the goal. I loved the way Dante was with Delilah. He was extremely sweet to her. I absolutely adore this book couple!
Morgan Elizabeth brings the world of Ivory Tower in the now second book of the series, Diamond Fortress, continuing the themes of endless spice, tasteful revenge and the unserious banter of a contemporary novel. The plot to avenge Delilah’s family is still alive however, has lost its once stable footing—with Dante’s latest idea to force a marriage between Delilah and his cousin, Paulio, the touches get sneakier, the whispers get louder and Delilah becomes stronger.
Delilah proves herself once again in this novel, being a strong-willed and unbreakable woman. She confronts all challenges head on and with a back bone that is admirable. The addition of her secret affair with Dante makes the intimacy bittersweet and steamy, creating the perfect sizzle in the mafia romance atmosphere.
Delilah and Dante are archetypal. One of a kind, the tension and angst between them is a unique, exhilarating and such an exciting experience. Morgan has articulated this relationship so beautifully and intentionally, it had me as a reader kicking my feet, squealing. I absolutely adored reading the love story of Delilah and Dante. With a side plots of immense plot twists and the love of a family—like a small-town romance—the Diamond Fortress just hits every angle.
Morgan Elizabeth showcases her perfected craft in writing once again, with intentional dialogue, mature writing and a suspense that crawls under your skin, it was quite hard for me to put this book down. The world of Diamond Fortress is a hard one to dislike and was such a good read.
Ps. I would love a book about Marco—my beautiful black guard.

“Who’s this guy?” Ben asks with a tip of his head at Dante. I look at him, and my eyes give him the up to you look. He looks back at me with a, You trust them? look. I nod. He smiles. “Oh my god, that is so fucking cute,” Hattie says under her breath, watching our silent conversation. Dante steps forward, putting one hand to my lower back in a way that is unmistakably not just a friendly move. “I’m Dante. Lilah’s husband,” Dante says, putting his hand out for Ben. It’s at that exact moment that the room erupts in absolute unhinged chaos.

Dante’s laugh fills the room, and I don’t watch, but I know he’s getting closer. Electricity snaps, even now. And then he wraps an arm around my waist, pulling me in close, my hand moving to rake through his hair that is more silver than dark now. His head goes to my neck and it’s then he says the words that always flow through me. The words he always says if we spend any longer than two hours apart. “Missed you.”

Dante and Delilah are now secretly married while she is publicly engaged to his nephew Paulie, and he is seeing Angela from a rival low level family. The plan is for Delilah to win over Carmine and Paulie's men so that when her and Dante take over the Russo and Carluccio family the men will not fight against them but for them. During this time Delilah must figure out who to trust and who not to trust. Teresa, Paulie's mom proves to be a great ally who seems to have dirt on everyone in both families and was also a close friend of Delilah's mother when she was alive. Dante is put to the test when his father declares that Delilah has to die but of course Dante will do whatever it takes to protect his wife, including killing his father who he has just discovered was the one to put a hit out on his mother. After Carmine's death Dante and Delilah rise to the head of the family and Paulie does not take it well and ends up shooting Dante before he is killed by Delilah. Lilah takes care of her husband while he's in the hospital and after that the two have a happy life together later in life the two have two children a son and a daughter and still visit Lake George to get away. Delilah and Dante's love was explosive and I'm sad to see this duet end but I am glad that it ended happily. I love that Ben and Lola are still doing well and that Dante and Ben got along so well. I thought it was sweet that Marco turned out to be Lilah's second and had always been watching over her and I really love his character as well as Jason. Paulie got what was coming to him and so did Carmine and I'm happy that they did not keep my main characters from getting their Happily ever after.

Book 2 of 2 of the Mastermind Duet ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ Romance/Adult/Contemporary Romance/Dual POV Tropes: - Fake Marriage - Bad ass FMC - Light Mafia Romance - Hidden Marriage - Heavy on the spice - Touch her and i’ll burn the world down
What an absolute plot giving page turning sequel. After being left off on a major cliff hanger from book 1, I didn't expect the beginning of book 2 to drop the biggest plot twist.
For a light mafia romance I enjoyed this duet so much. Lilah our FMC seriously embodied feminine rage and showing how the world seems women as nothing but property. Because if she was the man, then she'd be THE MAN.
Lotta spice, plotting and new found families, taking shit men down, all while finding long lost family.
Honestly that tracks also for Morgan always sprinkling in little swiftie references. Also IDK about ya'll but when I read a series I love learning about the side characters so when an author writes more books to give us a glimpse into their life? It's an immediate read. So the good news is I get to read all about Lilah's half sister and get her side of the story that was not on the mafia end, bonus points for having a hot tattoo artist boyfriend.
This duet is so much fun 👏🏼 so different than my usual reads since I’m not a mafia girlie, but I loved both these books so much. This is the 2nd book, so it is the story coming together and tying up all the loose ends. It was so satisfying to have everything be solved and all of the confusing bits be cleaned up to make sense. Some points were jaw dropping and I loved lilah’s character even more this time. Dante is still amazing, the morally grey cinnamon roll simp we all know and love. I love all the subtle Taylor Swift references. The spice is SO good and I absolutely loved the extra long epilogue. Morgan did so well with this 🙌🏼
Thank you to Morgan and her team for the ARC and opportunity to read and review early ❤️
This one picks up right after the cliffhanger left after book 1 "Ivory Tower" and must be read first before this one. Lilah came into her own and did things her own way against Dante commands, but I loved that. This one or duet as a whole I have admit was a bit too long for me. Don't worry there were twists and turns for the conclusion of Dante and Lilah's story. I just felt some bits could've been edited or moved faster. This really did have a ambiance feel of a mafia tv series, not dark though which was perfect for this story. Nice long epilogue too.
I received this book at my request and have voluntarily left this unbiased review. This does not affect my opinion of the book or the content of my review.
4.25 stars. Thank you Morgan for letting me read a copy early, I am so grateful.
I am normally NOT a mafia/dark romance girly, but I will read everything Miss Morgan writes.
The Mastermind Duo is the perfect level of “dark” content I like in a book. While there were morally grey characters, crime, typical mafia stuff, etc, the main characters are still lovable and I was rooting for them.
Lilah’s character arc is so good. This book is really when she came into her own and I loved it so much. She’s truly a mastermind!!!
The spice is excellent, don’t read in public lol. This book had me blushing!
Read this as a follow-up to Ivory Tower. Was looking forward to seeing how the story played out after the cliffhanger in the first book!
I thought this one was okay. I found it difficult to keep all of the characters straight, I felt that way with the first book too. This is a mafia romance but if that’s one of your preferred genres, this one might fall a bit short for you. The mafia element is there and is the central theme, but i found it to be frivolous in comparison to a traditional mafia romance. I hate to say it because I was looking forward to this one, it just wasn’t for me :(
Such a great ending to this series!! Dante and Lilah’s story evolves so well throughout the whole book. I love Morgan Elizabeth and I’m so grateful to have read this as an ARC- I was so happy with the way this book ended and I think anyone who enjoyed Ivory Tower will LOVE Diamond Fortress. This book comes out on January 31st so definitely check it out!:)
Another amazing book by Morgan Elizabeth!!! Again, I am so grateful to be apart of the ARC team and was able to get my hands on a copy early! I love how she ended the duet. You get a better understanding of some of the other characters you hear about in the first book. This book is fast pace like the first book. There were no cliff hangers and we got a HEA!
There were a small handful of spelling errors but nothing that made it difficult to read.
Morgan is one absolutely my favorite author! I have been here since her first book and to see her growth as an author is absolutely amazing!
I LOVED THIS DUET SOO MUCH! The story line- Chiefs Kiss The Spicy- HOTT That’s really all I got to say! Read this series you won’t regret 1 minute of it! 10000/5 ⭐️ 5/5🥵
What can I say? I loved this Mafia lite book. It has a little suspense, its really hot, and not too dark.
Dante is a perfect Mafia man, he treats Lilah like a queen and not a subject. This one is a little darker than Ivory Tower, but its a great conclusion.
I liked the continuation of Lilah and Dante’s story!! It’s been a hot minute since I read ivory tower tho, so I didn’t remember all the plot points which was kind of annoying when I was reading. I loved the addition of new characters, I am a Jason apologist to my core, and hope we see some of their books??
giving this 4 stars just because i loved the majority of this book but the end maybe went on a little too long? but still just such an excellent duet!!
dante and lilah and all their crazy family and friends and enemies just made this book such a fun read.
what can i say? morgan elizabeth never lets me down❤️🔥
2.5 ⭐️ this book felt unnecessary until about 70% like it could have just been a couple chapter epilogue or short story. I get they wanted to dive deeper into the story but it felt too dragged out while reading. It makes sense when u get to the end but honestly not as well done as the first. And kinda dark and twisty
This was better than the first one (it wasn’t difficult to be honest). We can finally see the two main characters COMMUNICATING, wow, inspiring. And actually talking without the need of having sex to prove a point. I liked this and the fact that they seem a bit more real this time. However, the plot is not my thing and the end was quite predictable.
