The stakes are high in this fast-paced mystery adventure starring young magician Flick Lions. The second book in the Great Fox series. How well do you really know someone...?
Flick is a magician who needs answers. Her father is still missing, and top illusionist the Great Fox doesn't seem interested in finding him, despite his promises. Meanwhile, she and her friend Charlie must represent the Great Fox in a new competition in the Swiss town of Linth. The Global Order of Magic is electing a new chancellor, and the Fox insists that if he wins, it will help – but Flick isn't so sure. Determined to solve the mystery of her father's disappearance and of The Bell System, his greatest and most mysterious magic trick, Flick must pull off an impossible diamond heist to win. But danger lurks around every corner, and nothing is what it seems.
This book is brilliant and I really loved reading it! The magic tricks are so clever and I love how Flick and Charlie work together to solve the clues. The talking lift is very funny - I wish I had one in my house! The book is also really clever because there are lots of mysteries to solve all at the same time and the ending was amazing!! It’s also really good that Flick has a disability but this doesn’t stop her from being determined and a great role model. I’m going to recommend this book to all my friends because I think it’s fun, exciting and of course magical!! (Thanks to Net Galley for this Book).
I found the book a bit difficult to follow, probably because I have not read the first book before this one. The writing is good though. I really would have loved to give it a higher rating but this is one of those that I am really not keen on.
This is a fun read about friends who must give up their own goals and work together to overcome the problems they face. Recommended for readers eight years old and older
Filled with clever twists and turns and unlikely scenarios, this is a story that grips your imagination and really makes you think. As it lays bare some of the most puzzling magical illusions, it creates a rocket-ride of a mystery oozing with danger that ripples with a sinister historical secret that Flick and her friend Charlie must unravel if she’s ever to see her father again. But there’s much more at stake than a much-longed-for family reunion. Flick is a great character; determined, intelligent, strong-willed and resourceful. But she needs her friends and depending on them isn’t always easy, especially since, in this book, their loyalty to her are called into question. As the mystery unfolds, it will take more than a few magic tricks to see Flick through. Compelling, full of drama and absolutely fascinating; a very fitting sequel to its’ predecessor, The Great Fox Hunt.
