If you are looking for a fun-filled action packed story, Dinosaur Cove tracking the diplodocus written by Rex Stone would be an excellent book for 3rd-4th grade classroom. This book explores the adventurous motive of two young boys who search for a diplodocus, an unusual dinosaur that bestows fascination amongst them. Traveling in the dinosaur cove the two discover different species of dinosaurs also befriending a small dinosaur named Wanna. While protecting themselves and Wanna they get in a little trouble along the way, not only discovering their diplodocus but saving a hysterical dinosaur in the process by becoming dinosaur dentist when the dinosaur falls victim to extreme pain with a branch is embedded in the gum area! Rex Stone certainly will generate curiosity amongst the students, with each chapter there is a different issue that must be solved creating suspense, including a chapter that reveals when one main characters boys loses his grips and lands on the dinosaur, yikes!
I would recommend this book for students, when discussing the dinosaur’s era, it gives descriptive information about certain dinosaur species and still has some pictures displaying the appearance of some of the dinosaurs. This book also has a bigger font for students that are not prone to the basic picture books definitely a beginner chapter book for students that are starting to venture into longer text readings. There are some valid teaching points as well, this story exhibits the determination of two boys that kept going despite the obstacles that they occurred during the journey. This can show students how being motivated can help them accomplish goals in the future.

I skipped several books and read this one. It seems like I didn't miss much so feel free to read the books out of order. In this one they are actually bird watching and bait birds with Stinko berries. A diplodocus comes across them and suddenly changes it behavior. It's because it has a stick in its gums. The boys help pull it out and all is well.

When Tom and Jamie come back to dinosaur world, the meet a diplodocus. When the diplodocus gets a piece of bark gets in it's gum, it's up to the boys to help the diplodocus get the bark out of it's gum.

I really like this book. It's cool. It would be really yucky to look inside a diplodocus's mouth to get something out of it's mouth.

I thought this was a fun book. Tom and Jamie go on a fun adventure that I think children will enjoy reading about. It was fun to read about the different dinosaur occurences they have and how they help out a dinosaur who is having trouble.
