Very well researched, and the many illustrations are welcome allowing you to make direct comparisons between the Disney artists' influences and the resulting films. Initially it was a bit worrying the amount Allan defended Disney the man from any and all criticism; however he subsequently shows a keen understanding of his artistic limitations (if not his personal failings which, outside his management style and the '41 strike, are really out of the purview of this book).

Studie van de invloed van Europa op Walt Disney's featurefilms. Zo oppervlakkig als Aloffs studie 'Hippo in a Tutu: Dancing in Disney Animation' is, zo diepgravend is die van Allan. Vooral de eerste drie films, en dan met name Fantasia worden goed belicht.

Allan probeert de Europese invloeden en de Europese Disneymedewerkers te duiden wanneer hij kan. Soms riekt dit vergezocht, maar meestal zijn zijn vindingen interessant en verrijkend. Bovendien maar hij ook enkele rake observaties over andere aspecten van Disney's featurefilms, waardoor je deze met weer een andere blik kan bekijken.

Awesome read for anyone interested in the European influences on Disney's animated features. It only covers those completed in Walt's lifetime (Snow White to Jungle Book), but does so in depth. Afforded three of the eleven chapters, 'Fantasia' is undoubtedly the books centrepiece. So, if you're interested in 'Fantasia,' a bit of an overview of Walt's contribution to the animated features, and some lovely illustrations (concept art, European influences, etc.), I would definitely recommend this book.
