I give it 5 stars for what it is. It is a book about tricks to negotiate and understand the other parties better.

The cover sucks, the looks of the writer are not extremely engaging, but even if the design fell out of fashion, the contain remains fresh, helpful and up to date after 25 years of the books first publication. Nothing you will read goes to waste. That doesn't mean you will have the most enjoyable reading experience (there's literature better orientated to those purposes), though it is still easy to digest.

In my case, I have it on my desk in the office, and i read a few pages every now and again. That allows the content to soak up better in ones memory. And often explains some of the things you might prefer to know when negotiating or not to have to ask to your colleagues or specially to the other party. If a concept requires more deepness it is up to oneself to dig deeper on the a bit of research to expand the concept, as in anything else in life.

It is a very good tool, to bring one up to speed in the negotiation techniques. (I got adverts popping up on my computer screen for a month after buying from amazon to engage one of his seminaries. That was a bit of a pain....)

It's a good book to reflect in our negotiation processes.
I believe that if we wait a few years and then read it again, we will find a lot of new things.

Since is a kind of list about several topics is sometimes a little bit hard to read a lot of pages in the same day.

But I would say that is a good slow reading book. :)

This book reads like a dictionary. The anecdotes are too short to be meaningful, which makes the concepts terribly difficult to remember if you want to read this for an hour or so per day. It would be much better if the medium was a "one-per-day" type. Another issue, and perhaps this is because of all of the other books I've been reading, is that there is no hard evidence provided that these strategies work. It's is all anecdotal at best. I'm not a fan of that.

A well crafted book, with information that excites. Karass writes in a way where you can relate and take something out of it. The tactics are very relevant for every age group, and expresses real life situations. If you are able to apply this to everyday life, then this book could be very beneficial. However, if you are not a fan of economic mind games, it won't be a book that you will enjoy. Although there are many lists, a must read for economic geeks!

Early in my career I had the great good fortune of attending the two-day Effective Negotiating seminar presented by Dr. Chester L. Karrass and his Center for Effective Negotiating. No other educational experience before or since has been as significant nor as useful in its practical application. I took home the books and audio from that seminar and added to my Karrass library over the years. More than textbooks, they are practical resources, timeless tools, indispensable in research and strategy planning. Much of the material became ingrained through use. I found myself in business situations instinctively reacting with the Karrass principles. They became a constant presence in my business dealings. I’ve recommended the seminar and the books to colleagues for years, irrespective of their title or career path.
