There are some good pieces of advice that I will apply.
I like how she explains things using the principles of Feng Shui.
And also some funny quirks: like she has a thing about hanging stuff up. That's not something that works for me.
Here are my favorite tips from the book:
-Get rid of the biggest objects first -Return borrowed items Label things you lend with your address -Get the floor picked up Bag stuff in boxes, laundry baskets, garbage bags -Gather Magazines and Catalogues Recycle or stack up neatly -Get rid of 10 items not worn in the last 1 year To Goodwill or Charity Shop -Wash the Windows -Empty all the trashcans in the house -Convert socks that don’t make a pair into dust cloths -Clear Desk invites new projects -Throw away all pens that do not work -Do not eat or drink near the computer screen -Do not shop when you are upset or depressed take a walk, get a massage, have dinner with a friend, go see a film
This book is an easy read. The language is clear, but not technical. I found all of the ideas, simple to implement but not causing me to totally overhaul my life.
The book should be called "Get An Armoire!" The main theme for every room/area was, get an armoire, hang old medicine cabinets and if you don't have time box it up. Not very helpful. Ok, so now I have 100 boxes of stuff I "didn't have time for" cluttering up my place! There were a few useful tips, but nothing I already didn't know.
She blithely ignores the collector impulse, there's a lot of feng shui talk, some of the tips are simply common sense and if you rent or are single the sections about garages, gardens, children's rooms and workshops might as well be blank. But anyone would find a few useful tips here.
