Only the first half of the story but all you'll get in English.

Great potential in characters but somehow didn't work and plot predictibility was too high.

The art was often objectively great but I hate steampunk and over-breasted women.

The steampunk environment is very detailed but it does not make up for a weak storyline. I didn’t like the uncredited translation either. Not sure I’ll get the rest of the series (Intégrale 2, T4-6) in French.

Great art, incredible attention to detail; but too much of the hypersexualization that veers into distastefulness. I have a pretty high tolerance for your boobs and nakedness, as a long term comic book junkie, but when you can see the outline of a female character's genitals it's really over my personal line.

Also, the story had too many unnecessary convoluted turns to make it truly have sense or be an engaging read; I don't know if it suffered from the translation from the French or if it was simply poor writing. But it could have benefited from a stronger editing hand and a significantly lesser engagement in the visual porn that comprised most of their characters.

I found this graphic novel shrink wrapped in the wrong isle at my local bookshop. I decided to take a gamble, and promptly purchased it. When I returned home, I was amazed by the artwork of the novel. I had dabbled here and there in the "steampunk" genre, but The Regulator was the best visualization I'd seen thus far. The story could have been more dense, but it evoked feeling. I'd like to see more graphic novels like this one... Maybe I should continue learning French, oui?

The Regulator Collection is an interesting story that takes an entire book-worth of buildup only to leave you hanging with some lame nod to a philosophical outlook on life and death from a purely existential point of view.
I get it, but I wish there was more to it.
The art was beautiful and a somewhat futuristic/dystopian-steampunk style setting was a refreshing change for what it's worth.
