Medusa's Island is the perfect vacation spot with beautiful beaches, quaint shops, friendly people and a terrifying vampire who may be stalking the locals. When two young women are found dead from no apparent cause, but with expressions of terror on their faces, Chief of Police James Winchester and Emma Gray, who survived a vampire attack years ago, fear a monster from the past has returned to make Medusa it's feeding ground, He may be hiding closer to home than they realise.
The vampire romance/mystery was a little bit predictable. It wasn't a good read, but it wasn't bad either. It's quite a dark read in places.
I'm sure that when I got this book it was listed as a mystery. It was a bit of a surprise to find that it was less of a mystery and more of a paranormal romance. As a mystery I had worked out the culprit even before the book was halfway through, so that largely detracted from my enjoyment. The characters seemed to get themselves into a predictable rut, and then never really seemed able to get out of it.

Thoughts: This book was a bit of an odd mish-mash of genres and storylines and it just left me a little unsure how to feel about it. I love paranormal reads and vampires are one of my favorite types, but this had a different feel to it…it definitely didn’t feel like your typical paranormal romance or one I would have normally picked up. I can see where the mystery part kind of comes into play, but I feel like for readers of that genre there is a bit too much paranormal elements to it. It is a bit of a ‘who done it?’ type of book with a stalker-ish vibe, but there are just so many other elements to it that it’s hard to really pin this one down. It also felt like a bit of a part of a series for me, and that distracted me a bit at times.
Once, you start it, however, you just kind of have to see where it goes, so I did wind up finishing it, but I am a bit conflicted on how I felt about it. Not a re-read for me, or an author I’ll be hunting down more of, but it is a pretty decent read overall.
This book surprised me, it turned out to be a really good enjoyable read. It’s a vampire romance, but nothing like I have read before. I don’t want to give out to much of this book, its to much fun to unravel the mystery as you go. This is more on a thriller lines, so make sure you can handle being a little scared or disturbed. The romance is not as hot as RNR lines goes, but its really good. I really liked James and how he handled Emma it was really sweet. Emma as you’ll read in this first of the book, she had a very bad experience with a evil vampire and somehow she got out alive where the others didn’t, Five years after the attract, she is working with the local Doc. The local sheriff James keeps cutting his hands somehow to where he has to go to the Doc for Emma to stitch him up, he is always doing this just to be with Emma, but what Emma doesn’t know he doesn’t need the stitches James can heal is own self. You don’t only get to read about James and Emma you get quite a bit of the townsfolk’s to read about also.
My biggest problem was the ending ended to quick. The author has left room for another book, I hope to see it one day.
I love vampire books. This one had a unique premise. I kept grabbing hold of the story and triying to stay on..only to be bucked off, yet again, and again with the descriptions of how helpless Emma was. James' character seemed intriguing if the writer would have him think of more things than Emma and his love for her. There is a fascinating story in here but it was brutal for me to wade through the junior high level love story.
I really love Vampire books it's one of my fave reads. So when the blurb mentioned Vampires I was excited. The blurb created a disturbing read.
It was an ok read. Yes it was dark and scared me in places. But it wasn't a mystery. I was expecting a vampire book with a thriller/mystery feel to it. But what i got was a romance so to speak. A paranormal romance would be a better term. A good vamp and a bad vamp. Anyone who loves vamp books will know there can be both types.
The characters were good. Emma survives a vampire attack several years back so when things start to happen she fears the worst.
Yet her worst fears are about to become true.
If you enjoy vampire books then you will enjoy this. It's just not as dark and dangerous as anticipated.
I received this book from the Publisher in exchange for a honest and fair review via Netgalley.
Residents of Medusa Island all know one another. Some murders occur under weird circumstances and Emma was the one who escaped. Unbeknownst to her, she had help she cannot remember! The Chief of Police has taken a special interest in Emma for five years now! He knows she is his mate but has had to take special precautions because of what transpired. She resides with the town doctor who helps her immensely.
The monster that terrorized this island is back! He is different, more dangerous and he wants Emma for him! No one knows who he is, more murders are happening, Emma is scared, the chief is perplexed, and the residents are wary. Who is the killer? What does he or she really want? What is going on with the chief, one of his deputies, and the killer? Should Emma fear them all? Whose will she end up being…if she survives?!
Emma pulled with all ehr waning strength against her binds. She felt the terrot swirl at herself for being caught. Then Emma sensed she was no longer alone. The night had already been filled with so much horror she had seen unthinkable things and she had done as equally bad. She didn't look at him, wouldn’t let him see her terror. Then he said “ Hello Emma”. Emma had never heard a voice so smooth, as rich as the voice with which he spoke those two words. Still she worked not to dwell on that voice that compelled her to to turn and look into his eyes. He tried to convince Emma to look into his eyes and she refused. He told Emma he admired her strong will. He had admired her from a distance for awhile now. He said he knew how hard it was for her to do what she did to Mary Jenkins. He applauded her for it. Despite the fact he felt she owed him and what it would cost her. He had turned her friend Marcy. James was cloaked with the falling dusk. It had been five five years since she had felt a vampire close by. Emma had been attacked years ago. Emma, Gray had to make sure she was safe. Jilly was at the cemetery at night, standing before a stone- Amanda McComb beloved sister- the date of birth and death were carved in the stone. The death was one year ago today. It seemed like yesterday when Jilly sister Amanda had succumbed to that dreadful disease she had fought so hard to beat. A childhood prank in a cemetery had left Jillian/Jilly scared for life. Now she was there to face her fear head on. Jilly talked as if Amanda was there and told her she had met a man. He also lives on the island so she wouldn’t have to travel to see him. He sent her roses at work. Graves started to open and bony grabbed her. Then they had her and told her they wanted her to stay there with them forever. James was the chief of police and at the cemetery where Jilly Had died. He thought getting out of Chicago and coming to Medusa Island hr would be able to end the evil he felt here before he had to see the dead bodies. James asked Duke what he had -Duke was the closest to a partner James had ever known. James had known Duke a long time.. James recognized Jilly, she had sold him his house. Duke said he didn’t know how she died, there was only some scratches on her cheeks and neck and Jilly looked terrified. James and Emma find a strong attraction between them when a storm isolates the island. But they have to face a dark killer who lives off the fear of others. Emma again became the target of a monster. I enjoyed this this story. It keeps you reading to see what is going to happen next. It did drag for me at times but I did like the plot. I think this dwelled on James loving Emma a bit too much. I also thought there were just a few too many paranormal things in this- never thought I would say that. I think this is really more of a paranormal romance over being a mystery. As far as I am concerned this was definitely a unique vampire story. I did like James and Emma together when all was said and done. I did feel the ending was a little rushed. I did like the characters and the ins and outs of this story and I recommend.

No Fear is marketed as a mystery on Amazon. While there are some elements that could be considered part of the mystery genre, I am willing to say this book does not have enough to be considered a real mystery. As a matter of fact I would shelve it under paranormal romance. I might have enjoyed it more had I not read it expecting an actual mystery story.
Another Freebie offer on the Kindle when I picked it up a little under a month ago. It was randomly chosen off of my mystery shelf by a visiting friend. (Hello Kelsey!)
I was half-way through the novel when I decided to look up the author and see what else she has authored as this was the first book I had read by her and I was pretty sure that I wasn't reading a mystery. And I was not disappointed by learning that Allie Harrison typical writes romances.
Now, I realize I am harping a bit on the genre thing. But all that aside, this story had some solid pieces to it. I liked the main characters immediately, the setting was well written, and even I thought the author came up with an interesting twist to the vampire myth. Which let's face it, is pretty damned hard to do these days. She doesn't go into much, just the bare minimum to ensure that the reader understands that they are different.
The plot itself held together but felt lacking, possibly because I was expecting a mystery and not a paranormal romance. And there were times when I could see the twist coming a mile away.
Overall No Fear is a decent paranormal romance story and worth a read if you are looking for something light to read.
Wow. That is just about the only word I have right now. I have never read a book that literally gave me nightmares (admittedly, most of my books are fluff cause I like the romance). So after a horrible nights sleep and a book that scared the heck out of me, I was up at 7 in the morning with a pot of coffee and my nose back in the book. I couldn't stay away even though my anxiety level was high and I checked the locks on my doors several times during the day. This book offers good vamps, bad vamps, lust, romance, originality, and reads like a psycho-thriller.
Warning to readers who are sensitive to snakes ... prep yourself for a bad scene but push your way through. It is worth it.
It was OK. Slightly creepy, but could have been creepier. I almost felt it should have been creepier, along the lines of Karen Rose, but it wasn't. I found myself equally caught between thinking James was a stalker, and liking his protectiveness and willingness to wait for Emma. She just didn't know about the watching... hence the stalking vibe.
I also thought the ending was a bit rushed, but overall I was satisfied with how Emma came to grips with the situation.
I would probably be harder on this rating if I had not gotten the Kindle edition of this for free. However, it's hard to complain too much about a freebie! The storyline was good and suspenseful but got a little too cheesy at times. I'd definitely read more from this writer if I came across them for free.
I could not finish this book. I tried three times to keep reading it, but the dialogue was so stilted and so repetitious, I just couldn't continue. I do like this genre of books, but this one fell flat! Glad it was a Kindle special. I would have been so disappointed if I had paid any money for it.
Not bad...The author was able to successfully paint a very bleak, suspenseful, and emotionally intense picture that kept me in the story. I don't have much to say, as this is probably one of my least favorite category in the romance genre. Still, it was a good read, and those who take to vampire fantasy romance stories would definitely be happy with this.
I have to say, for a vampire book (which I usually avoid) this book was good and had some original ( to me) twists. It kept my interest and read like a normal mystery book. Kudos to the author, most vampire books I drop immediately. This was an exception! And well worth the read.
This book wasn't bad. It was cool for a one day read. Generally, the characters were sort of cool. I liked how the author made the vampires and the way the story unfolded as it layed itself out for the reader. I say if you are looking for a quick and dirty read, this one isn't such a bad fit.
A free book for Kindle and a quick read. Vampire romance/mystery. A bit predictable and a little over-done in places but it kept me occupied and interested in a couple of long waiting room sessions, then I had to finish it up at home to see how it all turned out.
Predictable plot; poorly edited with multiple grammar and spelling errors; too much "romance novel" emphasis in the story. Teases you with hints of Thriller, Mystery, and Horror genres, but never delivers the goods.
Its taking me awhile to get through this... there's only been one good climatic scene so far... not enough blood and gore for me. I want a GOOD vampire story! Looking forward to reading some Anne Rice books, but I have a feeling they're not too gory or bloody either...
I had purchased this book a while ago and decided to give it a try. I liked that this book kept me in suspense before revealing exactly who the monster is and how the power of love can fight evil.I wish there was a sequel to this story.
Book wasn't terrible, but wasn't really good either. Got the free kindle version, so I didn't think I had much to lose. It was pretty much a cheesy vampire romance, not a whole lot of suspense, with several grammatical errors.
The story was good for a free Kindle book but not well written and as in other reviews I read, very predictable with some of the same phrases used repeatedly. It could have been better.
I should have paid more attention. I wasn't expecting a vampire romance. When it got to the point where I was actively choosing my economics textbook over this one, I decided to give up.
Written well. Good writing style although I guessed the identity of the killer early on. The story moved very quickly - only a couple days to play out.
