Lauren's extraordinary journey from prostitute to doctor is a story of hope for people who need a second chance. You'll laugh, cry, and at times be angry or shocked. It's a tale of sex, drugs, rock 'n roll and more - of trouble and ultimate triumph. Lauren's "Whatever happens, don't give up on your dreams!" Stowaway, stripper, doctor - a sensational, inspirational true-life story.
Raw open and inspiring. Society has a lot to answer for. Lauren you ate breath of fresh air, her strength and compassion is jaw dropping in the face of all she has endured.
I was lucky enough to have Lauren as my doctor towards the end of my teens- a decade of undiagnosed and worse, ignored- depression. She was the only doctor I saw in that decade that didn't treat me like an attention seeker or a diva (although that impression would probably be hard to make in sweatpants and greasy hair) and for that I'll be forever thankful.
This book was recommended by a friend. Wow, I always find other people's lives fascinating but this is off the scale! What an amazing woman Lauren is. I found the writing itself quite chaotic, but this seemed to suit what was happening in Lauren's life. It was in parts sad, frightening, inspiring, frustrating and hilarious.
Wow a very interesting read on an upbringing that is remembered by the author, am currently up to the part where Lauren is in her 20's - such a different life to what I could imagine...
Interesting - and worth reading for the story and the humanity. Of note: before telling of a person's terrible behaviour, the author inserts a note to explain that in the future that person sought help, got better, and friendship and trust was regained. One of the best notes I've seen in a biography.
