George has had enough of men and his old life. As a cowboy, he'd been run off enough ranches for being gay. In his new life as a diner cook, he's more than happy to play it straight. Ladies love his cowboy swagger, he loves his solitary job and his tiny apartment, and all seems to be going well—until his eyes land on a gorgeous man so unlike anyone he's ever seen. Tank loves all the little mates running around the estate, but the gentle giant longs for his own mate to hold at night. The moment he meets the new cook, he's smitten. But flowers and candlelight dinners don't seem to be enough to convince George that giving himself to Tank doesn't have to mean giving up his manhood. When vampires attack George, Tank must help care for him. Will George finally see that the strongest love just might be between two strong men? Each book in Lynn Hagen's Brac Pack collection features a different romantic couple. Each title stands alone and can be read in any order. However, we recommend reading the series in sequential order.
Lynn Hagen loves writing about the somewhat flawed, but lovable. She also loves a hero who can see past all the rough edges to find the shining diamond of a beautiful heart.
You can find her on any given day curled up with her laptop and a cup of hot java, letting the next set of characters tell their story.
This installment was such fun! I spent half the time laughing my head off. My favorite scene was George's first encounter with the vampires - priceless. I really liked the fact that the focus was on how George and Tank wanted to define their relationship.
The touch of reason why George is so scared of coming out was enough of a rationale for me, the rest was all about how he wanted to move forward. The verbal sparring between the two mates was just perfect, and seeing Tank so helpless as he was confronted with a mate totally different from what he had expected was a wonderful surprise.
This was definitely my favorite of all of the Brac Pack books. George broke the mold of the itty bitty, teeny weeny, fragile, giggly, weepy, teenage mates in the previous books. He is older, bigger and more mature than the others and he gives big ole Tank a run for his money. I was also thrilled to death to see a mate get to top for a great change.
"I think I’m having a heart attack. Check my cock!"
What succinct humor! What literary finesse! Not! I guess it's not just music and movies and TV series that are dying art forms. It's bad enough to see ordinary people (if indeed they are) rating these books up. But an "author" as well? Man, my desire to read any Serena Yates book just went down the toilet. In addition to all the flaws from the other books, she just added a $h*tload more in this installment.
PS - Lynn Hagen, stop encouraging pedophiles in their sickness. The problem is bad enough without you adding to it! GET MENTALLY EVALUATED! Oh...and the fans as well. Seriously...ugh..
These books always make me feel the author has deeply rooted psychological issues where she cannot reconcile which of her roles - as lover or mother - should take priority. Hence, it's reflected in her characters where they basically "daddy" 'em up and screw 'em right after. This smacks of a perverse and psychotic pathology. Where's Freud when you need him?
Genre: Alternative (M/M) Paranormal, Vampires/Werewolves
"Brac Pack 8 - George’s Turn" by Lynn Hagen is an exceptionally captivating addition to the Brac Pack series, blending the allure of the paranormal with the rich dynamics of an Omegaverse. As a fervent admirer of alternative M/M romance, this insta-love story delivers everything you could desire from the genre.
In the heart of this tale, we meet Cowboy George, a character who immediately captures your affection. George’s journey from a cowboy fleeing from his past to a diner cook living a modest life is both compelling and heart-wrenching. His rugged personality and cowboy charm add a unique flavor to the story, making his character relatable and endearing. The inner conflict he faces, dealing with his sexuality and the desire to maintain his manhood, is portrayed with great sensitivity and depth.
Then there's Tank, the gentle giant whose longing for a mate is both touching and profound. His instant attraction to George, despite George’s attempts to keep his distance, beautifully exemplifies the insta-love trope that fans of Omegaverse so deeply cherish. Tank’s patience and determination to woo George with flowers and candlelight dinners add a romantic and heartfelt layer to the narrative. Their chemistry is palpable, making their relationship progression feel both inevitable and incredibly satisfying.
The paranormal elements of the story are seamlessly woven into the plot. The presence of vampires and werewolves enhances the tension and stakes, particularly when George finds himself under attack. This not only serves to bring George and Tank closer together but also highlights the protective, alpha nature of Tank, fitting perfectly within the Omegaverse framework. The way Tank cares for George during his recovery is not only tender but also showcases the strength of their growing bond.
This book stands out in the Brac Pack series for its unique take on the M/M relationship dynamic, exploring themes of identity, love, and acceptance with a touch of fantasy. George’s struggle with his past and his eventual acceptance of Tank’s love is a journey that resonates deeply. The balance between romance and action, coupled with well-developed characters and a fast-paced plot, makes this book a must-read!

I might've given this one star except the one (or was it two) book I know I have given one star affected me much more than this one. This is my first Brac Pack book and likely my last.
The characters were okay but weren't handled well. While one MC kept thinking he'd take things slowly with his understandably skittish mate, he'd often turn right around and push anyway. Also, many of the scenes seemed very disjointed to each other. No smooth transitions here.
And while I'm curious about some of the other relationships--especially the "smaller" mates and why they all seem rather childlike--it's not enough to make me want to brave the writing again.
Finally, I HATED that the MCs seemed to believe that being the bottom (even if they switched it up) made them "the girl". Nope! I don't like this at all--especially because it wasn't a one-time thing that went away once it was evident that being the receiving partner in no way emasculates any one.
I got through it because it was short. One of the few redeeming qualities of this book.
This was book 8 in the "Brac Pack" series and it was a pretty good book I was so happy for Tank. George is a cowboy from Wyoming he was use to working on ranches until they found out he was gay and they kicked him off and to make matters worse his lover didn't stick up for him or leave with him. George has a passion for cooking and he takes a job at the diner that Cody is part owner at. Tank gets one smell of George and he knows that he has found his mate but George has sworn off men after his last experience and Tank has to put some work in to convince him that that he wants him. George is attacked by vampires and Tank is not having it. Cecil and the mates confines George to take them to the strip club and they talk to him about some of things that is holding him back from committing to Tank. This book at some really good hot sex scenes in it. I saw the warning about this book having some typos and errors and I didn't have any this book was well written and I am looking forward to reading the next book in this series.
4th Reading 1-3-16 This time around my previous comments didn't bother me as much. It was Cecil and his crew that did. Annoying. I also wished that George would have laid one on Tank in front of Kitty ;)
3rd reading 1-2-15 Wow, did the whole "I ain't no girl" thing bother me. Would have also liked to have been in on the conversation with Christian.
2nd read June 2014 Still felt the same way, but George kinda grew on me a bit.
First read November 5th, 2013 To be honest, I am not a George fan. I thought Tank needed someone he could coddle and take care of not a hard ass "I'm not a girl" George. I love Tank, but not a fan of his mate :(
Oh, how I love George! He is not little mate at 6'3". A cowboy from Wyoming who is hired to work as the cook at the Cafe, he rides into town with a broken heart and bad memories. He's a macho man who is little bit of a redneck, slightly narrow minded and he don’t bottom for anybody. He had some of the worse lines and they made me laugh at this swaggering stud who was too worried about not being "Tank's bitch". Of course the Mates got together and meddled...again. This was so fun. I cannot wait for book nine to get here!
I liked this 8th installment in the series, possibly because I've come to love Tank so much. He's always been the caring protector of the mates but at the same time yearning for a mate of his own. George is an interesting if not stubborn man and I found him to be a fun and unique offering to the "mates" in the house. I do enjoy the other mates but it's nice to have one that doesn't fit the stereotype. I liked the versatility of both characters too, even though it was a little hard for both of them - snickers.
I have to say that Lynn Hagen is one my favorite authors of all time!! When I first bought my Nook, I saw her books advertised, but always put off reading them, then I purchased Maverick's Mate and I've been hooked ever since!! I have now read every single book Lynn has written and eagerly await and devour any thing that she writes!! I have even repurchased ALL of her books when I moved from the Nook to the Kindle!! Thank you Lynn for providing me with so many hours of enjoyment and pleasure!! YOU ROCK!!!
This was a nice read. Sometimes humorous. But, I still got to much of the vibe most, if not all, shifter stories have. The higher one on the hierarchy HAS to be the top, and the other one have to accept to be the bottom. Or the higher one is always the more dominant, and the other has to be the submissive. I really hate that.
This book, at least, don't have to much of it, but still has it. I guess that's why I don't read much shifter stuff. And maybe a warning for me to don't read anymore, because I think most of them will be that way. Even the versatile ones, like this one.
This entire review has been hidden because of spoilers.
Since I began reading this series Tank has been my favourite wolf and I have been looking forward to meeting his mate and I was not disappointed with George. I have to say I am a greedy reader I usually want much longer with the characters but I have to say these bite size stories are the perfect length.
2.5 stars. Although the wolves are STILL buckling grown men into their seatbelts. Who does that??? This one had some humor in it that was actually funny.
Tank is even more awesome than I gave him credit. I like his personality, just as George does. Funny how Tank never complained of the country music like he had previously in another book.
I gave a 5 star rating to a couple of books in these series so far, and so far those are the books I laughed at the hardest, I like those kinds of books better than the sombre ones.
I liked the fact that George was different than the other mates. He also got Tank (so far the first warrior) to bottom. That's a first for this series. After 7 very effeminate males - it was a nice change.
Tank is huge, 6 ft 7 pure of muscles met his match in George 6 ft 3 but he never bottom before because he thought it made him less a man if he ever bottom. He just needed some pushing and advice from the pack mates to realize his mistake.
Fueron muy divertidos juntos y le encontré mayor conexión a la historia. El universo va pintando bien aunque a veces se resuelven "fuera de cámara" por decirlo de alguna manera, las amenazas externas.
Reviewing three in row again, that means book 7-9.
Things are being shaken up a little, by way of having some mates who are not complete, er, pussies. (Sorry, but that’s way too fitting a word to not use it.)
I am kinda just breezing through most of the sex, at least after things have been established. It’s just not interesting enough.
I guess this split into another series, because . Man, I am glad this series appears to only have twosomes. In my personal cost/gain assessment I don’t think I would try to read a threesome by this author.
Still, it’s gotten a little better. Still choppy and weird and amateurish and of course I got used to a lot, but character motivations seem to make a grain more sense. Just a grain, though. Nothing could beat volume one in terms of sheer stupid anyway.
2012 Re-read Project:
I went and did it. I re-read all the connected series by Lynn Hagen, this time in order of publication date, as recommended, which sadly does not ensure actual chronologicality. That’s twenty-nine books of moderate length, spanning three series (with more to spin off).
I’ll put my thoughts in spoiler tags since I plan to paste this into the end of each review covered here. There are no actual spoilers, so feel free to read this for a general idea of the series.
Can the tough, warrior wolf Tank handle a totally drool-worthy cowboy mate who refuses to play the submissive? The manly George must deal with his muscularly endowed suitor and his own need to dominate before finding peace with Tank as well. The Brac pack stands to gain a singular mate in George, but will he cooperate?
Each title in the Brac Pack series can be read alone, as the rules of mating and previous major events are explained in each book. Events also intertwine between books giving each episode a different take as it is seen through the eyes of different characters.
This week was Tank's story and George is introduced as a headstrong, although, cautious cowboy who was jaded through previous disasters with men. Tank, who is quite the protector in the previous books, had to learn to give a lot in order to earn the trust of his skittish mate. It's always a pleasant surprise to find manlove books about two strong, and real men vying for control. In fact, the name of the book is a humorous allusion to the need for control.
The banter between the two protagonists is hysterical at times. Even more amusing is the developing friendship George has with the other mates at the Alpha's compound. They even have a maddening showdown with squirt guns that made me laugh out loud. The smaller, and traditionally more submissive mates show their loyalty and determination to support their newest member. It's endearing to witness the growing bond of these men who must learn to live together and learn how to live in the world of the paranormal.
The lovemaking was definitely explosive in nature, almost like thunder and lightning. There were sweet and emotionally charged moments as well, but the two dominant "man's men" took a long time to get to that point. As their romance evolved, it was evident how much their love meant to each other.
The editing was done well and there were very few spelling and grammatical errors. There are plot lines left incomplete due to the nature of the series, but the happily ever after is solid and was not left hanging. The pace of the book was maintained throughout and was obviously well planned.
There are at least twenty books in Ms. Hagen's Brac Pack series so lovers of M/M romance will be happy to hear that George's Turn was not nearly the end of Tank and George's story. I have this series on auto buy and gladly recommend picking up this book as soon as you can. I'll end with my favorite quote from this book that really shows how acceptance can change a person, “It was scary as hell coming out of the closet for all to see, but with Tank at his side, he braved it.”
This was the first book I really liked in the series. It was good to finally see a warrior that offers himself and not his protection and to see a mate that is a man and not an overgrown boy. George doesn't need Tank to take care of him and loves him for whom Tank is. In this regard their relationship is the most believable so far, and the most adult. Unlike with the others it was actually clear where an attraction came from and Tank was actually sweet and not so creepy and possessive as many other warriors. Yeah he is a big galoot but better that then being such insecure, possessive and violent bastards that so many others of the wolves are. In his case it is actually forgivable that he didn't consider bottoming on his own accord since he probably never thought that way, but to be honest, had the thought disgusted him, he wouldn't have said yes so quickly and probably wouldn't have enjoyed it so much. And what is this "in the closet" stuff? Just because George doesn't parade it around? That is the outcome of a broken heart, normally people retreat from the world for a while after that. So it is stupid to refer to that as not being out. Unlike the other mates so far (and many afterwards) George didn't really had any special issues, nothing that any normal person didn't also go through so (as in the following books) lumping him together with all the mates that had serious problems is not right. And the "flirting" of Keata to Tank and Cody's reaction to it just proves to me that Cody sees Keata as something passive because it was clear that Keata "flirted" and not Tank. In addition Cody and Hawk are clearly not protective, they are possessive and insecure. In the real world that is the best recipe for an abusive relationship but in this world it is seemingly romantic.
George ruined this book for me. I didn’t appreciate all of his constant and repetitive bottoming-is-degrading talk and I’ve loved Tank for so long that I felt he got cheated on his mate. Even though he got better by the end, to the point were he seemed like two completely different people.
The usual banter and fun from the mates and pack were missing for the most part in this one too, so the full 2 stars go to the shootout at the end, Johnnie making the smoothie and Tank because I thought he at least was great.
