Detective Lewis Keating has had enough of cheating men. When a crooked cop steals a stack of files, it's Lewis's job to go through them and close out the ones he can. When a familiar case is found among the files, Lewis decides to question the one person who should be on his list. Evan Triamade was once told he looked like he breathed pain. A control freak since childhood, the wolf quickly loses his handle on things when his aloof mate shows up to question him about an assault that supposedly happened months ago. Their relationship is volatile from the start, and Evan is forbidden to see his mate by Alpha Maverick until their differences can be settled. Evan soon finds that convincing his mate not all men are cheaters is harder than he imagined. To make matters worse, Lewis has a drinking problem. When Lewis is taken by the ex-alpha, Jackson, it isn't Evan who rescues him but the smaller mates of the house and a Xiamen tiger. Lewis thought living among humans was hard, but living in a world of were-creatures tests his very sanity. Each book in Lynn Hagen's Brac Pack collection features a different romantic couple. Each title stands alone and can be read in any order. However, we recommend reading the series in sequential order.
Lynn Hagen loves writing about the somewhat flawed, but lovable. She also loves a hero who can see past all the rough edges to find the shining diamond of a beautiful heart.
You can find her on any given day curled up with her laptop and a cup of hot java, letting the next set of characters tell their story.
This was book 10 in the "Brac Pack" series and a pretty good read. Detective Lewis Keating is new to the police force he is going through old case of a crooked cop who was sent to jail when he comes across the case of Jeremy Cecil's ex who was beaten up he has interviewed all the guys at "The Den" accept for one Evan Triamade. Lewis has had enough of men they lie and cheat in his experience. When Lewis shows up to interview him Evan can't believe that he has found his mate he wants to throw him down on the table and claim him right away. Lewis can't understand the pull that he feels toward Evan he doesn't want to feel it so he leaves and closes the case and Evan is heart broken he wants to run after him. Lewis also has a problem he is an alcoholic and he goes to a bar to drink and to find a hook up and he finds one when Evan calls him to apologize he leaves with the guy turns out the guy is a vamp and wants to make him his chew toy and he is too drunk to defend himself. Evan shows up just in time to save him and he takes him too his bed to sleep it off. When Lewis wants to leave they get into it and Evan almost attacks Lewis not to hurt him but to claim him Maverick tells him that he has to stay away from Lewis for a week. Lewis wants to drink his pain away and when he notices that he is being followed by one of the warriors Gunnar they become friends and Gunnar learns what the real problem is when he tries to stop Lewis from drinking. This was a good read after finding out what they are Lewis agrees to mate Evan after Gunnar tells Maverick and Evan what Lewis problem is and he breaks down. Drew also helps by taking Lewis to meetings he doesn't feel so alone in his alcoholism. This book was well written like the rest of the books in this series. I am looking forward to reading the next book in this series.
4th Reading 1-3-16 Overreactions from EVERYONE! Holy sheep! I forgot about how this one was. Yikes.
3rd Reading 1-3-15 Agree with my previous comments. Evan was a dick. Although, Lewis was too, to a point.
2nd read in June 2014 Still felt the same way, although Evan pissed me off WAY more.
First read 11-6-13 I didn't understand Evan's anger. Lewis doesn't know ANYTHING and yet he's upset with him for no reason. Makes me mad. He deserved what he got. Although, Lewis was a jackass too :) Glad we got to really know Gunnar.
Genre: Alternative (M/M) Paranormal, Vampires/Werewolves
"Brac Pack 10 - Lewis’s Dream" by Lynn Hagen is a thrilling addition to the Brac Pack series, and I absolutely loved it! This story is a perfect blend of the M/M romance, Omegaverse dynamics, and insta-love trope, all set against a rich paranormal backdrop that fans of the genre will adore.
The book dives right into the heart of M/M romance, focusing on the intense and volatile relationship between Detective Lewis Keating and Evan Triamade. From the moment they meet, the chemistry between them is electric, making this an enthralling insta-love story. Lynn Hagen does a fantastic job of portraying the immediate and undeniable connection between Lewis and Evan, which is a hallmark of the Omegaverse genre. This instant bond, filled with both passion and conflict, keeps you hooked from the very first page.
The paranormal elements in the story are woven seamlessly into the plot. The presence of werewolves and the supernatural world they inhabit adds a layer of intrigue and excitement. Evan, a control freak wolf, struggles to maintain his grip on reality when faced with his aloof mate, Lewis. This dynamic plays out beautifully against the backdrop of the were-creature society, which tests Lewis’s sanity and adaptability. The author's vivid descriptions of the paranormal world make it easy to get lost in the story, immersing you in a reality where the supernatural is the norm.
Lewis’s journey is compelling, especially as he deals with his past traumas and a drinking problem. These elements add depth to his character, making him relatable and human despite the fantastical setting. His struggle to trust again, especially in a world where betrayal seems rampant, is heartfelt and engaging. The Omegaverse theme is evident in Lewis’s initial resistance and eventual submission to the overwhelming emotions that come with meeting his fated mate.
Evan’s challenge to prove that not all men are cheaters adds a layer of tension and drama. The forbidden aspect of their relationship, imposed by Alpha Maverick, creates a gripping conflict that keeps you on the edge of your seat. The resolution of their differences and the development of their bond are handled with sensitivity and care, making the eventual acceptance of their relationship incredibly satisfying.
The action scenes, particularly when Lewis is taken by the ex-alpha Jackson and subsequently rescued, are intense and thrilling. The inclusion of the smaller mates of the house and a Xiamen tiger in the rescue operation adds an unexpected twist that highlights the camaraderie and strength within the pack. This aspect of the story not only provides excitement but also showcases the deep bonds and loyalty among the characters.
In conclusion, "Brac Pack 10 - Lewis’s Dream" is a captivating read that beautifully blends the M/M romance, Omegaverse dynamics, and paranormal elements. Lynn Hagen has crafted a story that is both emotionally resonant and action-packed, making it a must-read for fans of the genre. The insta-love between Lewis and Evan is portrayed with intensity and authenticity, making their journey a compelling and unforgettable one. If you're looking for a book that offers a perfect mix of romance, tension, and supernatural intrigue, this is definitely it!

The book stated that the shifter-gene is carried by the male and that's why Keata and Kyoshi are both xianmen tigershifters although their mothers were humans. Small problem, if that is the case why are Tangee and Drew only half-breeds? Both had a grey wolf as a father so according to this statement they should be grey wolves and not half-breeds. Also, why is Evan just there and knows what to do about the alcohol stuff when at first they couldn't be in the same room? And again, why had the wolf be the one to top, why not the other way around. They are both adults so why always this stereotype? According to book 10 it is sufficient if the wolf bites the human and a few words. Doesn't matter who fucks whom, so way not this way around? Clearly sex was about power again, or at least that was a big part of it, the need to feel superior. In addition the warrior's attitudes towards their mates fighting makes it clear that they don't really want them to be safe. They want them to be helpless, if they wanted them to be safe they would at least try to teach them self-defense but this is not even considered. I guess the real reason is that most of the warriors are actually very insecure in that regard because when the mates learn to defend themselves and are actually independent most of the warriors have nothing offer them anymore except sex. Not that they actually are warriors. They are barely more than thugs.
This was a really weird story, it didn't seem to fit with the other ones at all. It's the only one so far I had problems with. I have no idea what I was missing, but it just didn't ring true to me.
While the setup was interesting (two control freaks angry at each other), I couldn't figure out what the rationale was. Lewis's drinking problem didn't emerge, nor did it feel real, until partway into the story. The 'solution' of Lewis and Evan's problems was a talk after a week of being told not to see each other - again, without rhyme or reason. And the remaining development of their relationship with a bit of a mystery thrown in for Lewis to solve just didn't grab me. On top of that Lewis's behavior was highly unrpofessional - watching a suspect be tortured without even a hint of a bad conscience? I had trouble with that.
I'm not going to give up on the series, though. So far, I have liked the books, and I hope that the next one will be back to that same standard again.
typical lynn hagen serial romance. nothing fantastic, nothing so bad it can't be finished. what is typical lynn hagen? imagine a shorter harlequin romance but with no t&a (see, i was going to write no surprise pregnancies, but... yeah.).
out of sheer laziness, i will be using this as my template for all books by : lynn hagen stormy glenn scarlett hyacinth carol lynne gabrielle evans
unless otherwise noted. i'd apologize, but i'm not sorry. i figure it's about as much time as they put into their books. dammit! well, i made it all the way to the end being rather moderate in my assessment. that's a win.
3.5 All the anger in beginning didn't really make sense. I get the author wanted to make 2 seemly angry people fall for each other. But as to the reason for the "Their relationship is volatile from the start" and "Maverick forbidding Even to see Lewis" didn't seem reasonable. I guess I needed more reasoning behind that part in the beginning, it did get a lot better after that.
Wow. This next batch of volumes (10-12) really steps things up. Sort of. For me, I mean.
Book ten and eleven were pretty cool, with interesting mates; not the usual kind, much older and mature. (And twelve… whoa.)
Gotta admire that all the recurring characters retain distinct personalities. Continuity has gotten a lot better on the whole. The writing skill is still rather amateurish in nature but since the stories get told right, I don’t much mind. So yeah, still choppy and sometimes episodic, an array of scenes that could go anywhere in the sequence, but this turned into a series definitely worth reading. I’m kinda starting to feel sad it will not last that long. (Truer words were never written; in retrospect this is half of the series’ high point.)
If this proves one thing, then it’s that I’m right in giving more than one chance even to those authors whose writing is the most unappealing to me. It makes me happy to see such improvement. <3
As an offering to… anyone who has stuck it out this far, I also brought a quotation with me. Since it’s long I am putting it in spoiler tags, although it is actually harmless.
2012 Re-read Project:
I went and did it. I re-read all the connected series by Lynn Hagen, this time in order of publication date, as recommended, which sadly does not ensure actual chronologicality. That’s twenty-nine books of moderate length, spanning three series (with more to spin off).
I’ll put my thoughts in spoiler tags since I plan to paste this into the end of each review covered here. There are no actual spoilers, so feel free to read this for a general idea of the series.
2 control freaks with different past and background. Evan needs control because he has anger issue when he was young. Lewis needs control because he has been betrayed by his father by cheating on his mother and betrayed by his former lover by cheating on him, he vowed to never giving control over his life to another person. When Evan and Lewis can not ignore the pull, both of them need to clear things between the two and laid the pain both felt in the open so there no more misunderstanding.
When pairing up two major control freaks it’s only natural that sparks will fly.
Lewis Keating is a man jaded by life and love. After seeing his father cheat on his mother and then being cheated on by his latest boyfriend, he has come to believe men can’t be trusted. He tries to drown his pain in the bottom of a bottle, which isn’t helping his situation any. Lewis is thrown for a loop when he meets Evan Triamade. Evan is controlling to a fault and it is a put off to Lewis. Yet Lewis can’t stop thinking about the other man.
Evan is a large and aggressive man who has had his own share of troubles. So when he realizes Lewis is his mate he couldn’t be happier until he believes Lewis doesn’t feel the same connection and doesn’t want him. Fate hasn’t made a mistake so far when it comes to pairing up the mates, but Evan starts to wonder if this match up isn’t meant to be.
They struggle through their difference and work hard at making a relationship between them work. All seems to be going fine until the rogue alpha from the eastern pack attacks and Evan is taken. Evan’s rescuers couldn’t have been more of a surprise. All the mates to these werewolves have formed a bond and when one is in trouble they all run to their defense. This pack of misfits have become a true family. All for one and one for all is the perfect motto when it comes to this group of men.
Drew, like Lewis is dealing with an addiction, and takes Lewis under his wing to help his friend get help. Alcoholism is a serious disease and you have hope that Lewis will conquer his addiction. I think the author did an excellent job at describing the day to day struggle addicts have to endure.
Once again Ms. Hagen has written a character flawed with addiction and trust issues that will have you rooting for him to get his happy ending. These two men struggle through what they desire and fear the most. In the end it comes down to love. If you have love anything is possible. Lewis’s Dream is an excellent addition to the Brac Series, it’s a must read.
This is the summary off the back of the book.
This is what I think of the book. This instalment was very definitely two personal journeys and watching them work things out was a joy. Having said that I am not sure how much longer this series can sustain it's self. There were some real obvious mistakes in this book and I think its because the cast list has grown so much and while I can forgive the writer a lot it is getting close to the point of 1 too many complications and I am not sure the core story has the strength to take it.
Well, I delved into the Bracverse a 2nd time and now there are 121 books - yikes! I loved this Universe the first time I read it several years ago and now I love it more, I really do, but I've only been able to read these series (and I have expanded to all the books that are currently out in each): Brac Pack Christian's Coven Zeus's Pack Demon Warriors The Exiled
These are the series that start the Universe. Reading them in order is a must. Each book has it's own love story but there is an underlying story that plays out throughout them all. As you get towards the end of these series, other series come into play and I noticed that, since I did not read them, I missed some of the characters being mentioned (good and bad) but I was still able to follow because the main ones stay the same.
One day I WILL buy these and read them all!!! (For the correct order, just look on the Internet for Lynn Hagen Reading Order): Brac Village Shadow Tribe BPNG (Brac Pack Next Generation - Brac Pack kids) The Remus Brothers Wolves of Desire
I have to say that Lynn Hagen is one my favorite authors of all time!! When I first bought my Nook, I saw her books advertised, but always put off reading them, then I purchased Maverick's Mate and I've been hooked ever since!! I have now read every single book Lynn has written and eagerly await and devour any thing that she writes!! I have even repurchased ALL of her books when I moved from the Nook to the Kindle!! Thank you Lynn for providing me with so many hours of enjoyment and pleasure!! YOU ROCK!!!
This is another that isn't my favorite. The main characters wouldn't have had issues if they had just talked. Reading about Lewis drinking wasn't fun. Especially when he knew what he was doing but not doing anything to turn his life around.
I did like the small mates coming to the rescue. They did well even if they scared their warriors by disappearing. I think the warriors are going to need to learn that the mates are big and bad in their own smaller very special way.
I really don't get the idea for this plot. Lewis and Evan are to be mates but they fight from the start, not even knowing each other. Why this anger and hurt from the start I don't understand. Everyone has past problems, but there was really no reason to judge a new person just based on your own past experience. And I'm sure a lot of guys don't behave this childish and ridiculous as it's drawn in this story.
I enjoyed this book so much better than the previous books. There was a little pouting but nothing to make Lewis seem young and immature. It was good to not have to read about an old man mating with a man-child as in the last 9 books ...
I'm a Huge fan of this series. It's a big part of my fun reads but this really disappointed me. Not well put together and you can barely stand the characters.
