Mark Forest decides to sell his tattoo shop after he inherits his granddad's auto shop. When he glides down the highway on his motorcycle to visit his friends after his granddad's funeral, he finds himself in a small town filled with shape-shifters. Caden McQueen is only ninety years old and the youngest of the timber wolves, but he holds his own as a sentry who guards the mates residing in Alpha Maverick's home. Little does he know that Tangee's very straight friend who blows into town for a few days will turn out to be his mate. After Caden chases his fleeing mate into the city, he's attacked by rogue vampires and left for dead. Even so, his biggest problem may be how to get a guy so deep in the closet that he doesn't even know he's gay to come out. Each book in Lynn Hagen's Brac Pack collection features a different romantic couple. Each title stands alone and can be read in any order. However, we recommend reading the series in sequential order.
Lynn Hagen loves writing about the somewhat flawed, but lovable. She also loves a hero who can see past all the rough edges to find the shining diamond of a beautiful heart.
You can find her on any given day curled up with her laptop and a cup of hot java, letting the next set of characters tell their story.
This was book 11 in the "Brac Pack" series. Mark Forest who we mate when Cecil talked the mates into getting tattoos goes to visit Loco and Tangee after his grandfather died leaving him is custom auto shop. Caden McQueen is the pup of the warriors he's only 90 years old he is pure and innocent but does a good job guarding the mates. When Mark comes in he feels the pull to Caden but he can't understand it because he is straight he doesn't let people get to close to him because people leave or die. When him and Caden fool around he knows that he want to be with him so he goes back to town to sell the shop so he can move closer to Caden and open a business in Brac's Village. Caden goes looking for his mate in the city not thinking about his own safety. When he is attacked by some vamps he is hurt and left for dead. Maverick and the warriors go to Mark because they think that he took Caden only to learn that he didn't and to find out that he went to take care of business and to return to Caden. Maverick and Mark find him on the side of the road injured Maverick tells Mark that Caden is his mate and that he is a virgin. This was a pretty good book Cecil talks Caden and some of the other mates to go "Cow tipping" where they find out that its harder than they thought and that a man with a shot gun chasing them when they run into a barn the see three men tied up and drained of there blood with the man threatening them Caden shifts and defends them along with Oliver who refuses to leave him when the warriors and Lewis get their Lewis takes the man into custody because he has found the missing men that he has been looking for. Maverick and the warriors take the mates skating and I was funny because he can't skate. Mark also gets a surprise when his 15 year old son shows up a son that he didn't know that he had he get a little protective his son Curtis also tells him that he is gay and starts dating his new employee. Blair helps him by telling him to take his time and don't fall for peer pressure and to always use condoms so he ask Mark for some and although Mark wants him to wait he goes and buys him some. This was a really good book it was well written with no errors in grammar or spelling. I am looking forward to reading the next books in this series.
It's almost as if the series is back on track for me after reading this book. With a slight variation, since the sentry of the pair is not the stronger partner for once, this was actually a nice surprise. It will be interesting to see how adding a sentry to the mix of mates will change the dynamics. I hope it will, there is some great potential to play with that a little - with a few other mates not falling into the traditional (or rather, initial) mold.
Mark is a guy we met in a previous book, and it's good to see him back. Interestingly, despite the title, the issue isn't really the fact he isn't gay. The fact he's never been interested in a man before is overcome easily and with a minimum of fuss. His concern for Caden is cute, his loneliness jumps off the page and even though his tendency to be a Dom came as somewhat of a surprise, he fills the role well.
Caden is the youngest sentry and in over his head. He behaves more like we have seen some of the other mates behave - and he ends up with that group despite his initial resistance to the idea. I liked that he gave in to his needs, and even though he is submissive in the bedroom, that is more of a kink for him than a lifestyle decision.
There are a few new characters as well, introduced at the end, and I am looking forward to what is next.
I have questions. Why did I give this a two star rating? Are these stories written in one day? And I mean ALL of them at one time. And then somebody just randomly decides where to end one before another begins? Why am I still reading this series? Why isn't Jackson dead already? Wouldn't Maverick have slapped the shit out of Prince Cristian just because?
Ever heard of a bisexual? Seemingly not, at least not in this Brac-Universe. While Hagen tries to get it colorful, in this she fails miserably. Mark obviously must be a closeted gay guy in the summary of the book, yeah that makes sense. And although he is 33, I think he takes it a bit too easy. In addition he calls Caden "pup" like several other of the warriors do with their mates (or they call them baby) which makes me think that he and them actually belittle their mates. Oh and mark cannot bottom because he is "all Alpha", interpretation (based on the wolves): he is either a control freak or a bully. Sounds lovely. Mrs. Hagen shouldn't romanticize such character flaws. And in the start of the book there is this "feminine" look of Keata again. Kinda weird considered that most of the wolves are such stereotypes of macho gays and Alpha males.
Genre: Alternative (M/M) Paranormal, Vampires/Werewolves, BDSM
I just finished reading Brac Pack 11 - Mark’s Not Gay by Lynn Hagen, and let me tell you, this story was an absolute scorcher! 🥵🔥 Every second was captivating, and I loved every moment of it. This book is a must-read for fans of M/M romances, especially those who enjoy insta-love stories set in the Omegaverse.
Mark Forest's journey begins as he decides to sell his tattoo shop after inheriting his granddad’s auto shop. His ride down the highway on his motorcycle to visit friends after his granddad’s funeral leads him to a small town teeming with shape-shifters. Here, Hagen masterfully weaves a tale that perfectly fits the paranormal genre, with vivid descriptions of shape-shifting timber wolves and the intrigue of rogue vampires.
Caden McQueen, the youngest of the timber wolves at only ninety years old, is a dedicated sentry guarding the mates in Alpha Maverick’s home. His character embodies the quintessential paranormal hero, strong yet vulnerable, which is a hallmark of the genre. When Caden discovers that Tangee’s straight friend Mark, who breezes into town, is his destined mate, the story takes a thrilling turn. The tension and chemistry between them are palpable, making it an unforgettable M/M romance.
The insta-love element is front and center, with Mark and Caden’s connection being immediate and intense. The way Hagen writes their instant attraction and the challenges they face, especially with Mark being deep in the closet, is both heart-wrenching and exhilarating. The scenes are so hot and intense that you’ll be turning the pages quickly, eager to see how their relationship unfolds.
Adding to the story's allure is the BDSM dynamic, where the human Mark takes on the role of the Dom, and the wolf Caden is the sub. This power exchange is written with such finesse, blending seamlessly into the Omegaverse context. The balance of power and submission between them adds layers to their relationship, making it even more compelling and steamy.
I also appreciated the subtle hints at a new generation of the Brac Pack. Little five-year-old Melonie (Tangee’s sister) and fifteen-year-old Curtis (Mark’s surprise son) add depth to the narrative, hinting at exciting future storylines.
Brac Pack 11 - Mark’s Not Gay is a standalone story within Lynn Hagen's Brac Pack collection, but I highly recommend reading the series in order to fully appreciate the rich world-building and character development. Each book features a different romantic couple, so you can dive into any book and enjoy the magic of Hagen’s storytelling.
In conclusion, if you're a fan of M/M paranormal romances with shape-shifters, vampires, and a sizzling BDSM dynamic, this book is for you. It's an Omegaverse tale that will leave you breathless and eagerly anticipating the next installment. Lynn Hagen has truly outdone herself with this one!

5th reading 7-1-19 The pack still pissed me off about Caden.
4th Reading 1-3-16 Can I ask what person in their right mind would travel and expect to stay with friends without even calling and asking if it was alright? Maybe even a heads up saying you're going to be in town? I don't know. It might be the nice thing to do. Caden's 90 but still needs an escort. Sigh.
3rd Reading 1-3-15 Why did people think Caden was such a baby? I don't understand. So much that he couldn't even go to the city by himself? Give me a break.
I disliked that the title was Mark's not Gay and then there was no conflict over having a male mate. I also disliked that Caden got reduced from being a Sentry and relegated to just a mate. It seemed unfair even though he was young by the wolves' standards. The rest was entertaining and moved the overall plot along.
Me gusto, me gusto. Algo... raro que alguien de la nada se vuelva gay... es como puuuuf toma un pene 🤣 pero supongo que eso lo hace pansexual... en un momento de "Solo es contigo" me dio a entender eso 🤷♀️
Mark isn't in the closet, he's not even gay but he can't ignore the pull and the temptation of young and sweet Caden. Caden is definitely my favorite character after Johnny, he's so adorable pup and good sub for Mark.
I like this one because first it is very rare to read werewolf male was the submissive to his human male mate. Second. The werewolf was sweet eventhough he was the warrior.
Wow. This next batch of volumes (10-12) really steps things up. Sort of. For me, I mean.
Book ten and eleven were pretty cool, with interesting mates; not the usual kind, much older and mature. I could have done without the in eleven, nonetheless. (And twelve? Whoa.)
Gotta admire that all the recurring characters retain distinct personalities. Continuity has gotten a lot better on the whole. The writing skill is still rather amateurish in nature but since the stories get told right, I don’t much mind. So yeah, still choppy and sometimes episodic, an array of scenes that could go anywhere in the sequence, but this turned into a series definitely worth reading. I’m kinda starting to feel sad it will not last that long. (Truer words were never written; in retrospect this is half of the series’ high point.)
If this proves one thing, then it’s that I’m right in giving more than one chance even to those authors whose writing is the most unappealing to me. It makes me happy to see such improvement. <3
2012 Re-read Project:
I went and did it. I re-read all the connected series by Lynn Hagen, this time in order of publication date, as recommended, which sadly does not ensure actual chronologicality. That’s twenty-nine books of moderate length, spanning three series (with more to spin off).
I’ll put my thoughts in spoiler tags since I plan to paste this into the end of each review covered here. There are no actual spoilers, so feel free to read this for a general idea of the series.
Things happened a bit too fast for me. I’m not sure about the characterization of Caden despite how young he is relative to the other sentries. It just felt… off. The rest of the pack was not treating him like a kid; they were treating him like a subpar werewolf, when he was still one of them despite not being as big or as brawny as they were. I actually felt insulted on his behalf, especially when he was the one who joined Cecil and the rest of the mates. What, the Timber wolves suddenly decided that ‘hey, since this human is more alpha than you, we’ll hang out with him while you can spend some quality times with the mates. Since, y’know, you’re not alpha enough for our macho bullshit’. What the hell? I know the distinction was never explicitly stated, but they have always treated the wolves and the mates differently. So yes, just to get the facts straight: Caden is the wolf and he always will be; he’s not the fucking mate. That’s just DISCRIMINATION. I wanted to smack Mark senseless when he kept insisting that Caden was his mate. Fuck you, sir.
And when did Caden start acting like a baby? We never got to know him in the prior books, but all we were told was that he was smaller in stature and that’s it. Still, you would have expected more from a sentry. He didn’t even do anything to resist Mark. They’re supposed to be mates, I understand, but what happened to the wolf he was supposed to be?? It’s not helping the pack’s case against him about not being ready!!
Also what the fuck was that whole topping business? What happened to ‘don’t change the rules in the middle of the fucking game’? Out of nowhere, Maverick gives an excuse as lame as ‘I had a dream’ when Caden asked about who topping who? So for Tank and George, the wolf has to top, but since it’s Caden there’s an exception and he just has to bite Mark and the mating and claiming will work okay? We don’t even get further information from that; instead we’re told it’s some confidentiality issue all of a sudden. What a rip-off.
The BDSM business was so forced I just had to roll my eyes. If Hagen is into that maybe she should start a new series dealing with that sort of thing? I just felt like it was an overkill. Y’know, since we already have werewolves.
And Curtis?? UHM GO AWAY, KID. Having to deal with Melonee is seriously bad enough. Points to the pack for being so welcoming, but nobody even batted an eyelash when Mark introduced Curtis as his son! What the fuck? I think Hagen should know when to write and when to actually stop. Because otherwise it just really sounds like she’s trying to make the word count.
My first thought was that Mark’s not Gay seemed like a bit of a ridiculous title, not very original or imaginative. But I have to say that it does make sense when reading the book and not only because Mark is supposed to be gay-for-you. For such a short story, a lot happens in this one. From rollerblading to outings gone wrong to a new addition to the family that I wasn’t expecting but really enjoyed reading about.
What I really liked about this one was Mark and how honest he was with himself. He was attracted to a man, so he dealt with it. No denials (at least not for very long). No tantrums. No shame. And for a man who had built walls around himself because of how afraid he was of being abandoned, it was rather brave of him. When meeting the Pack for the first time, Johnny asked him what his story was, to which Mark answered he was boring. I disagree. In my opinion, his acceptance of the possibility that he might be gay – without the screwing around or screwing with his partner’s head, something a lot of authors like to use as a defence mechanism – made him wonderful, refreshing and definitely interesting.
Caden is the youngest of the Sentries and as such has been treated with kid gloves and protected by the rest of the wolves since his arrival to the pack. Their care may smother him but he does actually behave rather childlike at times. Other times he’s mature and clever, so he’s a bit of a contradiction. One thing I didn’t understand though was his virginity. We are told that wolves reach their majority at 18 and their sexual maturity at 30, yet he’s a 90 year old virgin? Why is that? We never really got an explanation for it.
Their sexual relationship follows D/s. Even though their situation is more fleshed out than say in Hawk and Johnny's case with the Daddy thing, was it true BDSM since Mark admits to enjoying “playing the Dom”? They don't live the lifestyle and they don't take it beyond the use of toys and Caden calling Mark sir in the bedroom. Mark is the more dominant of the two, while Caden is undoubtably submissive to him.
The main couple, Johnny's big mouth, Maverick and his lack of ability to maintain his balance on a pair of skates and a couple of other things you'd have to read about to discover made this an overall very nice read and a great addition to the Brac Pack series.
The story is about Caden, the youngest warrior in the pack, and Mark. Mark decided that he need a vacation before he sells his tattoo shop and open up an auto shop after the passing of his grandfather. He decided to visit his friend Loco and his mate Tangee after they both told him that he is always welcome in their new home. While there Mark meets Caden and he can't help but feel something for the pup not knowing what it is and not going beyond something as lust because last he check he is straight. For Caden, he is extremely happy because he finally found his mate and he is everything he hope that he finds in his mate. Tall, dark, and extremely handsome not to mention he is pure Alpha and he would not mind subbing for him as long as his mate will take him. However, when he finds out that his mate is not gay but straight his world come crashing and fear that not only his mate will not accept him but may not want anything to do with him because of his gender. Will Mark and Caden have a chances of being to together or will fate be cruel this time and have them split before anything gets started with them.
I have to say that this was a cute book to read. Caden was so adorable and Mark is what you find in a mate by being all sweet but can be sexy in the bedroom. The only reason this does not get a high rate is because I feel that Mark did not struggle enough with his sexual preface. Don't get me wrong I love that he is willing to give there love a chances but there were not enough struggle to go with it making it seem that he was gay in the begin but he prefer the company of women as far as he can tell. He just went with it and that is all.
It could have been better but I'll leave it at that cause this was still an okay book to read.
This is the summary off the back of the book.
This is what I think of the book. This was a slightly different dynamic from the previous books because the mate was the dominant instead of the wolf, Caden. It worked really well and it was nice seeing an alpha type male not afraid to follow his feelings even when they are contrary to what he thought he should feel. This was the first book, however, that I thought finished half way through the story, it felt like Lynn Hagen had a page limit and stopped writing when she got to it instead of when the story came to a natural end. Can't say it will stop me reading the rest of the series but I will be annoyed if this happens again!!
Well, I delved into the Bracverse a 2nd time and now there are 121 books - yikes! I loved this Universe the first time I read it several years ago and now I love it more, I really do, but I've only been able to read these series (and I have expanded to all the books that are currently out in each): Brac Pack Christian's Coven Zeus's Pack Demon Warriors The Exiled
These are the series that start the Universe. Reading them in order is a must. Each book has it's own love story but there is an underlying story that plays out throughout them all. As you get towards the end of these series, other series come into play and I noticed that, since I did not read them, I missed some of the characters being mentioned (good and bad) but I was still able to follow because the main ones stay the same.
One day I WILL buy these and read them all!!! (For the correct order, just look on the Internet for Lynn Hagen Reading Order): Brac Village Shadow Tribe BPNG (Brac Pack Next Generation - Brac Pack kids) The Remus Brothers Wolves of Desire
typical lynn hagen serial romance. nothing fantastic, nothing so bad it can't be finished. what is typical lynn hagen? imagine a shorter harlequin romance but with no t&a (see, i was going to write no surprise pregnancies, but... yeah.).
out of sheer laziness, i will be using this as my template for all books by : lynn hagen stormy glenn scarlett hyacinth carol lynne gabrielle evans
unless otherwise noted. i'd apologize, but i'm not sorry. i figure it's about as much time as they put into their books. dammit! well, i made it all the way to the end being rather moderate in my assessment. that's a win.
This was just so much fun. Mark wasn't gay, but he loved Caden, the youngest wolf, and only Caden. Although Mark was human he was dominant in the relationship, which was pretty awesome. However, Caden helped him keep a level head when it came to his temper, and other issues that they were having at the time. I totally love the happy moments that they have, such as going roller blading , and just having a great time. Gives me the warm fuzzies, and it's a nice break from the usual dangers that the pack encounters on a constant basis. These guys are utterly lovable, and I'm so addicted to this series. The humor is cute also. :D
Yep, orientation is such a simple thing. It's so easy to change it. I guess all gay men just need to find the right woman. Get real! (just in case, all this was sarcasm). I like GFY fine, but could you at least show it not one dimensional? It's not as easy as I am attracted to that guy, lets sell my business, move so I can be with him. Men and women are quite different. It's not that simple to change sides. I'd like to see some struggle on emotional, sexual, social levels. Not a simple - I like him, lets be gay.
I have to say that Lynn Hagen is one my favorite authors of all time!! When I first bought my Nook, I saw her books advertised, but always put off reading them, then I purchased Maverick's Mate and I've been hooked ever since!! I have now read every single book Lynn has written and eagerly await and devour any thing that she writes!! I have even repurchased ALL of her books when I moved from the Nook to the Kindle!! Thank you Lynn for providing me with so many hours of enjoyment and pleasure!! YOU ROCK!!!
And what happened to the "I need to be inside of you to claim you" part the series began with? It is so full of contradictions that the entire world building (which doens't really exist) crumbled half way to the top (or maybe half way to the middle because it started real early)
Aside from that, I liked the characters at least... even if Caden does seem to be a teenager rather than a 90 years old guy. In fact, none of the wolf act their age.
This book to me seemed to be rushed, they were in love too quick and Caden went from a bad ass wolf shifter to a 12 yr old in his actions it could of been a cool story but it was just so boring in the falling in love right away and the way Mark took off to sell his shop before he really knew anything, if it was a secondary story in Loco and Tangies story then it would of been good it was just way too cheesy
One of the things that bothered me was the mates did not remember who Mark was from getting their tattoos. Or he them. You would think he would remember 7 guys coming in to his shop all at once. I kept waiting for someone to say "I remember you, you did my tattoo" but nope, nothing. Story still really good, that just really surprised me.

For some reason, I found myself enjoying this one over the others. Probably because of the role reversal. I also liked that Mark, as a human and a mate didn't take shit. He stood up to Cody and they fought. He seemed to hold his own. So, Mark, unlike the other mates is the most capable and he's seemed the most adult out of them all (the mates).
