Electronics expert Nero Credence suffers from germ phobia with a touch of ADD. Add a sprinkle of OCD, and then send him to a house full of wolf shifters and watch him go. Gunnar Sadena is the most laid-back wolf you could meet. He laughs a lot and hardly ever gets angry. But Gunnar is baffled when a five foot human shows up at the front door, telling him he's there to slay Ricky's dinosaurs. Who the hell is Ricky, and why would he have dinosaurs? Amused, Gunnar allows the nutter to enter his home. Nero turns the pack upside down as his neurosis kicks in. At six foot five, the wolf has a hard time bowing down to this pint-size terror. Gunnar thinks the quirky man is nuts, but he's also his mate. Each book in Lynn Hagen's Brac Pack collection features a different romantic couple. Each title stands alone and can be read in any order. However, we recommend reading the series in sequential order.
Lynn Hagen loves writing about the somewhat flawed, but lovable. She also loves a hero who can see past all the rough edges to find the shining diamond of a beautiful heart.
You can find her on any given day curled up with her laptop and a cup of hot java, letting the next set of characters tell their story.
This book is wrong and disturbing on so many levels.
Until I started this book I'd forgotten that I also read the second book in the series, Hawk's Pretty Baby. When you add these two books together you get a really disturbing picture of the relationships that seem to be prevalent in this series.
Lynn Hagen's series is about a house full of gay wolf shifters and the way they find their mates. Nutter Nero is about Gunnar, a six foot five shifter, and his mate Nero, a five foot nothing computer geek germaphobe who has OCD and ADD.
When I read Hawk's Pretty Baby, the second book in the series, I hadn't read the first book in the series. In that book Hawk is the massive shifter and Johnny is his mate. Johnny was barely 18, extremely child-like, had a past full of abuse and serious anxiety issues. The book made me slightly uncomfortable but I let alot of things slide.
Nutter Nero being the 12th book in the series meant that there were quite a few mates present in this book and I got a very clear picture of the theme this author appears to favor.
The wolf shifters in this book are huge; muscular and very tall. Most of their mates are small, slender and almost delicate. I would imagine that they would look like children next to the shifters. The wolf shifters seem to constantly pick up their smaller mates, have their mates sit in their laps or carry their mates around.
Now, the whole huge shifter/small mate thing happens alot in M/M paranormal, so this alone probably wouldn't have bothered me so much is not compounded by all of the following trends.
In addition to having the shifter's human mates be small in stature Lynn Hagen likes to give her human characters traumatic pasts. In Hawk's Pretty Baby, Johnny was abused by his brother and had crippling anxiety issues. In Nutter Nero, Nero was abused by his father which resulted in his becoming germaphobic, OCD and ADD.
It seems like, because of his past and resulting psychological problems, Nero had a very child-like way of processing the world around him. I don't think the author's intent was to have Nero come off as uncomfortably young, at least I hope not, but in the end Nero seemed like a character who was mentally alot younger than mid-twenties.
In Hawk's Pretty Baby the human mate also seemed alot younger than 18. He made an appearance in this book as well, as did all of the other mates. Almost all of them were small and they bounced, skipped and had a way of talking that made me think of a bunch of 11 or 12 year olds.
At one point, when the mates are in danger, they run into a secret safe room in the house and lock themselves in. Two of them say that they have to "tinkle" and go into a corner together to relieve themselves. They're giggling, battling each other with their pee streams and making designs on the wall with their urine. It was like reading about two ten year old boys.
The mates were also very submissive. The way the shifters told them what to do was reminiscent of adults speaking to young boys. In one scene the mates are playing hide-and-seek in the woods and they lose track of Nero. The shifters have to go find him. Once Nero is found the shifters basically scold the mates telling them that if they're going to play in the backyard that they need to let someone know.
Reading about these shifters and their mates was like reading about a group of parents and their kids. It was so wrong when coupled with the sexual scenes throughout the book.
It made my skin crawl to be reading about the mates playing hide-and-seek before getting scolded and then a few pages later reading about Nero and Gunnar having sex. The dynamic between the shifters and the mates felt like reading about the interactions between pedophiles and children.
Maybe there were parts of this book that were okay but they were overshadowed by the many things in the book that were not okay.
There are alot of books that I wouldn't recommend and, out of all of those books, this book is one that I not only wouldn't recommend but one that, if asked if they should read it, I might actually tell people not to read.
This was book 12 in the "Brac Pack" series. This book was funny and sad at times. When Cecil's game console breaks he calls the store he use to work at to have someone come out to fix it Nero Credence shows up. Nero suffers from germ phobia ADD and OCD he didn't have the best childhood he was abused by his father and his mother didn't help and as a result he doesn't like to be touched so he wears gloves when he gets upset he goes into these OCD episodes of counting. I also thought that he was going to turn into a tiger because his grandmother was Japanese. This book was funny Nero can't remember names so he makes up names like calling Maverick Ricky or calling Remi Demi. Gunnar Sadena is the most laid-back wolf he takes his job of guarding the mates serious when Nero shows up at 6am to go over computer's with Maverick he is pissed off because he was woken up until he sniffs and realizes that the fruitcake that's asking for Ricky and talking about fixing dinosaurs is his mate. Maverick offers Nero a job that he takes as well as room and board. Gunnar doesn't know what to think about his mate so he calls him Nutter and when he tells him that he is not interested in sex in front of Remi and Drew it was funny. This was a sad book as well Gunnar had to be patient with his mate and when he told him what they were the only thing he was worried about is if he had fleas and it was funny because he checked him another thing I though was funny when he rubbed hand sanitizer on him before they had sex. The pack also continues to have problems with rogue vamps and wolves. This was a good read with no errors in grammar or spelling. I ma looking forward to reading the next book in this series.
No exfoliation product on my bathroom shelves could possibly get me feeling clean after reading this book. The only time I've ever seen behaviour similar to that described in this book was at a 6-year-old's birthday party and yet Lynn Hagen attributes these behaviours to the mates who are allegedly grown men. It sounds more like an expose on Oprah about a kiddie-porn ring than a series of safe, sane, and consensual relationships. I wish all books were like fan fiction and the author had to list warnings on the first page so I'd know in advance that Here Be (thinly veiled) Chan.
As for the main characters in this book... in real life, we'd all kick in the nuts anyone who called us "saggy boobs" or "wrist slasher" as a pet name, but in a Lynne Hagen book, anyone who makes fun of your physical attributes or clinically diagnosed disorder must be your true love. In real life, we scramble to get our loved ones away from the sort of brute who'd alternate between shagging them and verbally abusing them.
This book was so bad it was almost good; it's like it's a parody of a bad book or something.
Let's count all the things wrong in it:
- Nero just moves in there? Just like that? What about all the mundane but real worries like apartment leases and packing? What about stranger danger warnings on TV about how you SHOULDN'T take anything from strangers, including offers of board and bread?
- 'Sure, why not?' : This is sex we're talking about, right? Not gyoza? Sorry, just checking.
- So let's see. Nero's... 25 years old but acts in a way that would shame an 18-year-old. He hides in the closet, he's absolutely terrified of things. One moment he's scared out of his mind and hoozah! The next moment he's roleplaying with his mate. What's wrong with this picture?
- I'm amazed how the author keeps track of the characters... And this is only Book 12! It felt like a hundred characters, and everyone had to appear at least once, if only to say a one-liner. It's like, Cameo: Book 12.
Verdict: This author writes with the emotional maturity of someone whose age is in the single digits. If you hate someone, make them read this. I will be looking forward to hating on the rest of her books.
Wow. This next batch of volumes (10-12) really steps things up. Sort of. For me, I mean. Book ten and eleven were pretty cool, with interesting mates; not the usual kind, much older and mature. (I could have done without the Dom play in eleven, nonetheless.)
Number twelve, the one I am reviewing here, though… I’m impressed. This one was genuinely heartbreaking but incredibly funny at the same time. Nero’s so neurotic and tormented that he can barely function, .
I am genuinely sad that it ended, actually. Even the intermingled sex scenes were fun . And I really, really loved the total acceptance and devotion Gunnar showed Nero, the way Nero just curled up into him. I mean usually you would not expect someone to be happy to get bound to a pile of neuroses. There was not a hint of censure. And yeah, it was terribly funny, the way the side characters reacted too, and especially to see them all through Nero’s warped view.
Gotta admire, too, that all the recurring characters retain distinct personalities. Continuity has gotten a lot better on the whole. The writing skill is still rather amateurish in nature but since the stories get told right, I don’t much mind. So yeah, still choppy and sometimes episodic, an array of scenes that could go anywhere in the sequence, but this turned into a series definitely worth reading. I’m kinda starting to feel sad it will not last that long. (Truer words were never written; in retrospect this is half of the series’ high point.)
If this proves one thing, then it’s that I’m right in giving more than one chance even to those authors whose writing is the most unappealing to me. It makes me happy to see such improvement. <3
2012 Re-read Project:
I went and did it. I re-read all the connected series by Lynn Hagen, this time in order of publication date, as recommended, which sadly does not ensure actual chronologicality. That’s twenty-nine books of moderate length, spanning three series (with more to spin off).
I’ll put my thoughts in spoiler tags since I plan to paste this into the end of each review covered here. There are no actual spoilers, so feel free to read this for a general idea of the series.
This book contains a tremendous amount of humor and just enough tension and overall storyline to keep the series going, I think!
I know Nero wasn't trying to be funny, but the way he looks at the world, reacts to it and the stuff he gets up to had me in stitches. The explanation for his many neuroses was sad, though, but like any other mate in the series so far, he gets the support he needs from the rest of the group, as well as a devoted mate. Very cute!
Gunnar is amazingly patient with Nero and I loved how he 'converts' the man from 'not interested in sex' to 'when can we do this again'. Very cool.
If you like a light, fun read with hot wolf shifters and a tremendous injection of humor, you will like this book.
I was very disappointed with this volume. There is very little story here. There is no real explanation of what happened to Nero to make him have the problems he has. The author talks about a relationship with a mother that never makes an appearance. We don't know if she is still alive or not. There are random attacks that have no explanation. I can't say how disappointed I am. This could have been so much more and it feels like the author just didn't care enough to put anything in to the story.

Genre: Alternative (M/M) Paranormal, Vampires/Werewolves, Roleplay
"Brac Pack 12 - Nutter Nero" by Lynn Hagen is another hot book in the series. I mean, this book was a steamer! Featuring an engaging mix of humor, romance, and steamy scenes, it brilliantly captures the essence of the M/M paranormal genre, especially within the Omegaverse and insta-love frameworks.
The story follows Nero Credence, an electronics expert with a quirky mix of germ phobia, ADD, and a sprinkle of OCD. Nero's eccentricities shine through, adding a delightful layer of humor as he navigates a house full of wolf shifters. When Nero shows up at Gunnar Sadena's door claiming he's there to slay Ricky's dinosaurs, the stage is set for a series of laugh-out-loud moments. Gunnar, the laid-back and ever-amused wolf shifter, finds himself charmed and bewildered by this pint-sized terror.
Gunnar and Nero's role-playing shenanigans are a highlight, particularly when Nero plays Red and Gunnar the Big Bad Wolf. These scenes are not just playful but also contribute to the development of their insta-love connection, which is a hallmark of the Omegaverse. The dynamic between Gunnar's laid-back demeanor and Nero's high-strung personality creates a captivating and entertaining contrast that drives the story forward.
As with other books in the Brac Pack series, "Nutter Nero" stands alone, but the continuity of characters and world-building enhances the experience for readers following the series. Lynn Hagen masterfully balances humor and steam, making this M/M romance a delightful addition to the paranormal genre. The story's length of 25,046 words ensures a quick yet satisfying read, perfect for fans of alternative romances involving vampires and werewolves.
In conclusion, "Brac Pack 12 - Nutter Nero" is a fantastic read that had me laughing out loud and thoroughly enjoying every moment of Gunnar and Nero's journey. This book is a steamy, humorous, and heartfelt M/M romance that perfectly fits into the Omegaverse and insta-love genres. Highly recommended for fans of the series and anyone looking for a delightful paranormal romance.

Cecil should get a hobby. And Nero is just annoying. No idea why Maverick is so smitten with that guy, maybe because that guy will always need the chimp-wolves because he cannot get along himself. And of course Nero cannot be a top. Well that is a role Gunnar never seems to want to play in roleplaying. And seriously Mrs. Hagen, what is it with you and these mini-mates?
And with Nero we have the third (at least partially) Asian character of the series and I can't help but think that these three Asian characters of the series are basically American stereotypes of the East Asian, they are emasculated (especially Kiata is feminized) and have to, actually want to, submit to the big and strong white man. Nero is the quintessential nerdy Asian-American and practically asexual before he meets his "warrior". Kiata comes around as totally immature and feminine, without actual spine and in need for big protectors. Kyoshi is barely more than a pretender, someone at first acting as though he is an adult but basically needs a big strong man to order him around and protect him. And damn it, these two are tiger shifters, why are they such whimps? Even if they are small tigers, they are still tigers and at least should be on the same strength level as a cougar or a jaguar. Why do they need big and strong werewolves? This makes me wonder why the author bothered to make them shifters at all. The author has actual diversity with her white characters but not with other ethnicities. No why is that?
typical lynn hagen serial romance. nothing fantastic, nothing so bad it can't be finished. what is typical lynn hagen? imagine a shorter harlequin romance but with no t&a (see, i was going to write no surprise pregnancies, but... yeah.).
out of sheer laziness, i will be using this as my template for all books by : lynn hagen stormy glenn scarlett hyacinth carol lynne gabrielle evans
unless otherwise noted. i'd apologize, but i'm not sorry. i figure it's about as much time as they put into their books. dammit! well, i made it all the way to the end being rather moderate in my assessment. that's a win.
the most enjoyable edition yet. This is my Friday guilty pleasure. I go into these books with zero expectations. I admit there have been a few books I didn't like at all but this was fun
This book reminded me a lot of me. Bravo on bringing Nero to life and reminding me that I'm not the only 'nutter' out there. Nero is really well written and well worth reading about.
Poor Nero being drilled by his mother about germs, no touching other people and ordered him to make sure their house was thoroughly clean shaped him to be neurotic and misfit in society he's also one of a kind, no other mates can compete with his quirkiness.
Yes, Gunnar was tired when Nero came to them but I didn't like him thinking Nero nutty and practically not acknowledging him until he caught a whiff of the guy.
I know I skip the first 12 books of this series but when I read the preview I knew that I might like what I'm about to read and I was right. There were some part I did not get because I skip a few books but overall I get the idea.
I fall in love with Nero and his straightforward personalty, which is an added plus to me, and even though he does have mental problem that does not stop him from making a living and it only add more charm to his character. The most I like about him is the nickname that he gives to the pack member, even though its not intentional, but that what makes him more lovable and the pack accept the nickname to the point that only he is allow to call him those nickname. My heart broke about his past and although I wish it give him a bit more strength to go forward but one can not change one way when it was what he know all his life but I will give him props for trying to change and become closer to his new family and not to worry, cause he has one hot, sexy mate right by his side.
I also like Gunnar because he was patient and understanding when it comes to Nero to the point that I thought that he was a saint with the way he has to deal with Nero, but that what make him great. Instead of being frustrated and trying to force Nero into changing his way, he was patient with and learning how to adapt to him so he can make him feel comfortable with him, even when his demand seem out of this world but he will do anything for his mate.
Overall, I love this couple because they have the right chemistry for each other and they balance each other out which make them the perfect couple. Even when they do role playing to spice up there sex life, which to be honest I haven't read much book with role playing in it, it was so hot and lovable and it was perfect how they did it.
The only down side it the height different, don't get me wrong I have nothing against height difference if anything I like it when there is a height difference between them so we have an idea who is the dim and sub in the relationship. However, I would have like if Nero was a little bit taller, like 5'5 instead of 5' when Gunner is 6'5, so there will be a foot difference instead of a foot and a half. Maybe is because Nero is Asian and they are known for not being to tall. Anyway I enjoy this book and I'll try going back to read the book that I skip but I'll see how I feel about this series first.
Nero Credence is an electronics expert; he suffers from germ phobia, a little ADD and a touch of OCD. He becomes the most neurotic mate the Brac pack has encountered to date. When he’s sent to Maverick’s, to fix some electronic equipment, he finds and meets his new mate.
Gunnar Sadena is a very laid back wolf. He doesn’t really get angry, which turns out to be a good thing when he meets Nero. He isn’t sure what to do with the little guy who wears blue gloves all the time, but he knows he doesn’t want to let him go. Somehow they are going to have to work this out.
Nutter Nero by Lynn Hagen, the 12th book in the Brac Pack series, introduces us to Nero, an extremely neurotic person. He has a good reason for his neurosis and does amazingly well considering all of his issues. He even tolerates being called Nutter by his mate. Gunnar is the happy go lucky one in the pack, which is a good thing when your mate is more skittish than a long tailed cat in a room full of rocking chairs. He does all he can to make Nero feel at home with him.
Unfortunately in the end, it’s Nero’s bravery and ability to overcome which is tested. I like the under lying theme of being comfortable in your own skin, no matter what might be wrong with you. Adapting and finding love isn’t easy for all of us, and some of us are a little like Nero and skittish too. In the end Nero proves to us all, he can overcome and teach us to do the same. This book is a part of a series which should be read in order. Once again we encounter characters from previous books in the series, which made me smile and helped Nero become one of the mates.
Nutter Nero is a story that will tug at your heart strings but make you laugh in the process. Pairing a wolf with a small human dealing with major obsessive compulsive disorder is comical. Nero is called to the Brac mansion when the alpha mate's gaming console breaks. These wolves and mates had no idea what they were getting themselves into when he came into their lives.
All the mates within the Brac compound have dealt with difficult pasts and Nero is no different. He grew up in an abusive home, which is the cause of his severe OCD. Most of the time Nero’s idiosyncrasies aren’t of major concern and the others in the house understand what’s going on with him and overlook his oddities. But when Nero feels threatened he reverts back to that scared little boy.
Gunnar is happy to have found his mate and he helps Nero deal with his OCD. The way Gunnar helps coax Nero out of his shell is both sweet and inventive. I like how Gunnar becomes Nero’s rock. The love they share is beautiful. Ms. Hagen writes about these strong fierce warriors who would do anything to make there little mates smile.
Once again the rogue vampires and werewolves are wreaking havoc in their small town causing the wolves to work overtime. We get to meet a new addition to the Brac pack and he makes his appearance with a bang.
Lynn Hagan has the ability to make you laugh and cry with her entertaining books. She touches a cord with the serious issues she writes about as well as makes us laugh with the crazy antics of her characters. Nutter Nero is an excellent addition to the Brac Pack series.
This was very entertaining, and had me laughing out loud many times. Nero (human) was sent to fix the computers at the shifter's home, and ends up working for Maverick, (pack alpha), not to mention, he's also Gunner's (wolf) mate. Nero was abused as a child so he had a bad case of OCD, and didn't like anybody touching him since they had germs. When Gunner told him that he was a wolf shifter, therefore, he doesn't get sick or anything like humans do, then Nero tells him to shift so he can check for ticks or fleas (instead of stressing over the wolf shifting part). That was too cute, along with their sexual role playing. They even acted out, Little Red Riding Hood, which would be a blast with a real wolf! :D It was totally hilarious. I had to get used to Nero being so robotic, but knowing of his past he began to grow on me, and at least he didn't give Gunner a hard time. I love how the other guys try to make every new mate feel so welcomed. The only thing is that I wish I knew what was drawing the rogue shifters and vampires to their home. Well hopefully we'll find out soon. :) Still loved it.
