Sarah Thompson knows what it's like to have a midlife crisis at twenty nine. She has spent the last several years running her own yoga studio and trying to survive being single in a small gossipy town. And if that were not enough, she decides it is the perfect time to go back to school. So you see, Sarah's world was already spinning when she learns that her hunky professor has vampire teeth.

The Last Watcher is a fantastic quick read. I was really impressed with Misty Burke vampire story. I found danger, adventure and a very good prophecy tale. I would recommend this to paranormal romance readers.
The book description says enough, I am not going to spoil. I did like both Charles and Sara and I liked them both together. I loved the stroyline I found it different and wanting more at the end. The only downside to me was a romance reader I found the sex scenes a little rushed and lacking in the seduction, but in saying this I know its hard to put it all in into a short novella. I also felt this story could have been made into a series for more books to come. Hint, hint Misty....
When I first received this ebook and was told that it was 94 pages, I honestly thought that it was not going to be good. Boy was I wrong. This story was different but the same if that makes sense. It has romance, suspense, surprise and more all tangled up in 94 pages. The story was very well written, understandable and straight to the point. I was so wrapped up in this dialog that by the end I was disappointed and sad that it ended. I'm hoping for a series but with the second book a little longer. Overall. it's a great book if you want to read but not get into anything lengthy. I recommend this book.
Since Sarah was a child, she has heard stories about supernatural creatures roaming the streets for years and how special she is from her grandmother, but of course she did not believe a single word. She returns back to school to earn her degree and lands a History class with the most gorgeous History teacher ever, but his class is filled with female students and she doesn't have a chance, or so she thought. Charles is a vampire who teaches history classes at the University at night. All is well, until one night this incredible woman enters his class and he is blown away. Not only is she beautiful but she's special and he needs to find out why she has entered his class. There's a prophecy, the same story that her grandmother used to tell her as a child and it will soon be reveled.
This story got off to a rocking start! Sarah heads to a night class to find a sexy professor teaching it. Due to the blinding snowstorm outside, he offers her a ride home, only he turns out to be a vampire. Danger, a feisty heroine, and a sexy hero are drugs I cannot resist. As we get to know more about Professor Charles Underwood, we find out he’s not a bad guy, but there are plenty of them out there and they want Sarah’s emerging power.
Unfortunately, this momentum plays out pretty quickly. The plot and characters are brilliantly conceived, but the story was too rushed. If the entire thing had been written as well as the first few chapters, this would very easily be a 5 Tea Cup/Recommended Read book! Still, Ms. Burke is a rising star, someone to watch closely because she has the talent. All she needs is the patience to go with it. This was a really good story, and I’ll be looking for great things in the future.
The story behind this book is an interesting one. Although my immediate reaction was to think of BUFFY when I read the word “Watcher,” this story is not “The Vampire Slayer.” In fact, the vampires are some of the good guys in Ms. Burke’s tale. A Watchers’ job is to keep balance among the paranormal, but the evil Warlocks want a war - no harmony. Sarah is put in the middle of a battle that she isn’t prepared to join. The premise of harmony among the “freaks” is one I enjoyed reading. Although the ideas behind the story are solid and compelling, I feel the book suffers some from its shortened length.
If you are looking for a short, fun paranormal, The Last Watcher, it worth a read.
My Rating: 3 stars: Liked it, there were a few issues - (B)
Sarah is at a crossroads in her life where she's looking for something new and she thinks going back to study will be the way forward. Soon she realizes that her future is already mapped out and her birthmark holds many answers. Meeting Charles she learns of who she is (a watcher) and how important she is to be in the battle between good and evil.
For me, the scarcity of descriptive detail and break-neck speed made this read less engaging than it otherwise could have been. This was, though, an action-packed quick read with an entertaining premise and generally likeable characters. Read More
