"A book to rival TWILIGHT and VAMPIRE DIARIES, and one that will have you wanting to keep reading until the very last page! In LOVED (Book #2 in the Vampire Journals), Caitlin and Caleb embark together on their quest to find the one object that can stop the imminent vampire and human the lost sword. An object of vampire lore, there is grave doubt over whether it even exists. If there is any hope of finding it, they must first trace Caitlin’s ancestry. Is she really the One? Their search begins with finding Caitlin’s father. Who was he? Why did he abandon her? As the search broadens, they are shocked by what they discover about who she really is. But they are not the only ones searching for the legendary sword. The Blacktide Coven wants it, too, and they are close on Caitlin and Caleb’s trail. Worse, Caitlin’s little brother, Sam, remains obsessed with finding his Dad. But Sam soon finds himself in way over his head, smack in the middle of a vampire war. Will he jeopardize their search? Caitlin and Caleb’s journey takes them on a whirlwind of historic locations—from the Hudson Valley, to Salem, to the heart of historic Boston—the very spot where witches were once hung on the hill of Boston Common. Why are these locations so important to the vampire race? And what do they have to do with Caitlin’s ancestry, and with who she’s becoming? But they may not even make it. Caitlin and Caleb’s love for each other is blossoming. And their forbidden romance may just destroy everything they’ve set out to achieve…. “LOVED, the second book in the Vampire Journals series, is just as great as the first book, TURNED, and jam packed with action, romance, adventure, and suspense. This book is a wonderful addition to this series and will have you wanting more from Morgan Rice. If you loved the first book, get your hands on this one and fall in love all over again. ” --Vampirebooksite.com “THE VAMPIRE JOURNALS series has had a great plot, and LOVED especially was the kind of book you will have trouble putting down at night. The ending was a cliffhanger that was so spectacular that you will immediately want to buy the next book, just to see what happens. As you can see, this book was a huge step up in the series and receives a solid A.” --The Dallas Examiner “In LOVED, Morgan Rice proves herself again to be an extremely talented storyteller….The romance is PG-13, with no inappropriate love scenes that would have parents worried. LOVED is much deeper than the first installment. The story moved along well, and ended with an unexpected cliffhanger that leaves you shocked. Engaging and fun, I found myself enjoying this book much more than the first and I am highly anticipating the next installment.” --The Romance Reviews All 11 books in THE VAMPIRE JOURNALS are now also available!

Some things about this book in the form of a list (spoilers unmarked but nothing really happens so it's not really that big of a deal lol):

- There is a Justin Bieber reference

- The main villain doesn't show up until the last little bit of the story. He was too busy releasing the bubonic plague into New York City for no reason. This plot thread goes nowhere and never impacts the main story or characters

- A boy named Sam and a girl named Samantha become lovers. The fact that they have the same name is never discussed. Also, she actively wants to kill him

- There is a catfishing pedophile who lives in a broken down shed

- The only black person -- or person of color at all -- in this whole book shows up for about 2 pages and is then killed. The only other black person in the series is mentioned briefly as an afterthought but never has any page time.

- Even though he declared his undying love for her in the last book, the pasty bland brunette protagonist is unsure of the how the hot white love interest of undetermined age and magical abilities feels about her for the entire book until he kisses her and they promptly have sex even though it is illegal (because she's not a full vampire and he is)

- She wants to be a full vampire but he doesn't want her to be. She is literally a half-vampire with almost every trait of regular vampires but he doesn't seem to consider this

- They briefly visit her old school for virtually no reason and are invited to 2 separate parties that they don't attend

- Child services isn't involved even though 2 minors have no living or known parents. They just travel cross-country with no issue

- Various animals come and guide them on their path because nature is happy for them

- One of these is a wolf pack. The protagonist adopts a wolf pup and carries it around, feeding it slim jims

- The pasty and bland brunette protagonist is the vampire messiah. She is also, for all intents and purposes, King Arthur

- The hot white love interest of undetermined age and magical abilities has magically-changing eye color for no explained reason

- Continuing with the word "coven" being attributed to vampires and not witches, the entire history of the Salem witch trials was also about vampires and not witches

- Morgan Rice says that vampires that feed on the nastiest, grossest things ever -- homeless people and prostitutes -- are the nastiest and grossest vampires. This is actual canon. Superior vampires feed on clean things like wild animals

-
Caleb stepped out beside her, as he was finishing wrapping his arms and neck in a thin, clear material. It almost looked like Saran wrap, but it seemed to dissolve in his skin as he put it on. She couldn’t even tell it was there.
“What’s that?”
“Skin wrap,” he said, looking down as he wrapped it carefully again and again over his arms and shoulders. “It’s what allows us to go out in the sunlight. Otherwise, our skin would burn.”

Can we all agree that Sparkle Vampires are a lot less stupid than Plastic Wrap Vampires?

- Beethoven was a vampire

It was good book, but it is ridiculous how many mistakes are in it. The writer had repetitively said starting instead of staring. She had also said things like: Caleb and Caleb walked down the narrow path, or whatever. It's suppose to be Caitlin and Caleb walked down the narrow path. That wasn't an exact sentence from the book but, she said two of the same name like that on more then one occasion. There was many more mistakes that I haven't mentioned and probably a lot that I didn't see, I'm not exactly great at grammar. I don't have to be good at grammar to see a lot of the mistakes in this book though.

I also hated how the brother Sam, talked like a fucking freak, I mean seriously I would have killed him myself he was so annoying. He has said "Like" way to many times when he spoke. It got really fucking annoying. I really hated it. It was really stupid an pointless to have Sam, the brother, talk like that. Half the time when I was reading the parts when Sam spoke, I wanted to pull my hair out. It was crazy, annoying and down right stupid.

I hated how Caitlin kept on thinking that Caleb was going to leave her. It got kind of annoying I mean seriously, if he was going to leave he would have left already. Not to mention that Caleb had repetitively said that he cared a lot about her. So it was weird that Caitlin kept on thinking that Caleb was just going to be like "So, I guess your useless to me now and I'm leaving." Well I don't think she thought he would actually say it that way, but she might as well have.

Gotta say, this was definitely better than #1. Still not fantastic, but better.

Dialogue and overall text still has an immature voice and it still needs significant editing as the number of typos and grammatical mistakes really disrupts the flow.

As do the continuity issues, e.g. the wolf pup was injured enough to be abandoned by her pack yet kept up with wild horses a short time later with no further mention of that limp she had for a grand total of one scene? Discussing vampire weddings at Martha's Vineyard and his wife, Sera, never enters the conversation? 120mph is apparently much slower than vampire flying according to Samantha, yet it takes them "quite a while" to travel the length of Martha's Vineyard?

And why is everything always the {insert superlative} than ever before? Everything cannot increase in drama endlessly; there has to be a peak eventually!

Bleh. Define and organise your world, Rice! Just because it's not real doesn't mean it has to be unrealistic!

On the other side, storyline is improving. A lot more thought and planning went into this than #1. And having the three stories happening separately and then all converging in the last chapter was well-worked.

I'm determined to get through them all just so they're off the booket list (the book bucket list), and this book has slightly redeemed the series in that now I'm curious where it will go from here, so on to #3!

Short story, short review. Overall, this was an decent read. A few more thing stood out to me as being different about the vampires in this story than what we are traditionally used reading about in this genre. Vampires get weaker as they get older, instead of stronger. The Vamps in this world can commit suicide with a little yellow pill, etc. Like I said in my review of Turned, I still believe that these stories are two short. Turned and Loved should have been one book. One of the last lines of Loved is Caitlin telling to Caleb, “Turn me!” …as she begins to die. That’s how I would have expected Turned to finish.

In this book, we follow Caitlin and Caleb as they search for the sword that will either save or ruin the world. Sam searches for his dad, falls for Samantha. Samantha, on the evil Vamp side, really only wants to find the sword, thus using Sam. The evil Vamps release a toxin intended to kill everyone. One of the evil vampires (I can’t remember his name right now) is ousted from their group and he goes on his own hunt for Caitlin in hopes to also secure the sword…blah.

Honestly, I’m not sure that I will even continue on in this series, the story is okay, the characters are okay. Nothing memorable and nothing to keep me coming back for more. I want to feel vested in the series and urge to know what happens to Caitlin and Caleb, Sam and Samantha, and the evil vampires vs. the good ones…but I don’t. I was hoping that the 2nd installment would grab me, but it didn’t. Now, don’t get me wrong, I’ve read tons of YA books, and liked them. The issues I have with this book isn’t because it’s “too young”. There is just something missing.

This was a decent effort by a self published author. Those who love all things vampire, no matter what, may like this book. But those with a more mature taste in the vampire genre, you should probably pass on this one.

“Loved” starts out where “Turned” left off, on a hunt for a sword. Not just any sword, the sword that can end the Vampire war. This is a great little adventure story, that follows several characters: Caitlin/Caleb, Kyle, and Sam (Caitlin’s little brother) who are all on a similar path with different expectations. I liked that there was some history in this about the Salem Witch trial (with a few twists to fit in the world that was created) and other events and people. I think I enjoyed Turned a little more, but I did still enjoy reading Loved, I hope to find out more about the father character in future books, but I suppose I’ll have to read more to find out. Of course with all young adult/romance the girl and guy always seem to have instant connection but it still worked pretty well. Though “Loved” is a vampire story, the focal point was the journey and growing up than our vampire heroine, there are a few twists in here and I think that if you enjoyed ‘Turned’ you’ll also enjoy ‘Loved’. The big down side though, as in a lot of Indie or Self-Published works, were the typos and errors some of these can be confusing.

This series seriously starts out good, and has a ton of potential, but once you get to about.. ohh, the fourth book, everything starts to become repetitive and the characters really start to lose their individuality, all of them blending together and having the same feelings, emotions, and opinions. The storyline repeats its self, over and over, with basically the same outcome everytime. The main female character never really develops a backbone throughout the entire story, always falling in and then out of love, never really sure of her feelings for anyone.
Basically, this couldve been an amazing story. It had great potential, and when I first found it I fell in love. But then, everything slowly started to go downhill, and now five books into the series, I really have no desire to continue reading them, because for the last two books I've predicted what was going to happen before it even happened.
I dont want to be able to predict the outcome of a story.

Caitlynn and Caleb race through time looking for the legendary sword, but they have company the Blacktide Coven are after the same thing, as we follow them on their search we get an interesting look at history, bring on the next book.
Or so I thought, as I said in my review of the first book it's over a year since I read this book and I never intended to write a review but I'm offering my advice for what it's worth. This is the last good book on this series in my opinion the rest are the same book just different time and place, a money making exercise so my advice is save your money.

I'm so sorry, little vampire book. It's not you, it's me. I knew, going in, that I would not enjoy this story. I'd read book 1 and just did not connect with the story or characters. But I needed a book for a challenge and this one was the shortest kindle freebie I already owned so I grabbed it.

If you like vampire stories, this might work for you. There are adventures to find a sword, family, and even talk of the Salem Witch trials & scrolls to follow. So it's an adventure type story embedded with vampires that are trying to live good, by not biting people.

If it sounds good to you, go for it. It just didn't work for me.

The book isn't horrible, but it is not a very good vampire series. What I don't understand is how so many editing mistakes made it to print. It is by far the most mistakes I've ever seen in a book. With that being said, I am a sucker for finishing series. So I'm sure I'll keep reading, in hopes that it gets better.

Again, I can donwothout the romance aspect. It feels forced and incomplete (much like impulsive teenagers though). The historical tie-ins and twists have been good.

There are a lot of errors in this book and I'm shocked that they were not rectified in the editing stage. Anyways, overall a good read.

Blessed are the mediocre.

Okay, so my review of the previous book in the series was mixed aiming towards positive. There was an interesting story-line, lots of action and some interesting characters (although the writing was quite poor).

In Loved, Caitlin and her vampire boyfriend are looking for a sword; a very special sword. Kyle—a bad vampire—and Samantha—a grey vampire—are also looking for it. Despite this, they only meet until the end; there is, for the most part, little conflict between the characters.

Kyle is also planning to release a modified version of the bubonic plague.

Now, I’m getting annoyed. The previous book had a very nice, simple plot: Caitlin is becoming a vampire, and she doesn’t know what to do about it.

This book has a much more complex plot-line—and one that begs disbelief. First of all, the bubonic plague is a poor agent for a worldwide curse: it is not that easily transmitable; the plagues of the middle ages occured because of ignorance about sanitation. And even if human scientists don’t come up with a cure—which is highly unlikely since the bacteria is not especially prone to mutation and humans are far more numerous in number of available scientists compared to vampires—the bacteria is still unlikely to be able to display immunity from all of the huge numbers of antibiotics we have available today.

Science lecture aside, the writing is also, still, poor. Repetitions are frequent and jarring; the prose is somewhat amateurish; and there is no discernible improvement over the previous book. It also becomes rather monotonous as you read this (much longer) novel.

Character-wise, little can be said. Only a handful of new ones are introduced. This is, to some degree, a blessing: most of them are cliche and not especially deep. Caitlin’s progressing relationship with Caleb also causes me to raise my eyebrows—they seem to have formed a very intense connection in a very short amount of time. And the explanation for this is cryptic.

The good thing is that the characters are, at least, likable; or despicable, in the case of the antagonists.

Overall, this book is very mediocre and was a bit tedious to finish. I don’t think I’ll be reading the sequel.

Final Rating: 2.5/5

***May contain spoilers***

I must admit that I am quite conflicted about this book. On the one hand the 'insta-love' bothered me quite a bit more in this book than it did in the last (mainly because there was 2 cases of it going on in it, again with Caitlin and Caleb, but also with Caitlin's younger brother, Sam, and Samantha) but I felt that the plot of this book was much better developed (and more interesting) than the first.

Plot-wise I loved learning more about Caitlin and Sam's background and I found the idea of the Rose and the Thorn to be entirely intriguing and something that I hope plays a large role in the other books of the series. Furthermore, I think that Morgan did an amazing job meshing together the Salem Witch Trials with modern-day vampires, it is a unique idea that I have not come across in any other YA paranormal before.

However, I had quite a few difficulties trying to connect to Sam's part of the story. In "Turned" Caitlin made him seem a really sweet kid, though somewhat lost, but in this I felt that he was anything but. Furthermore, I also had somewhat of a difficult time connecting to him because I felt that he would say or think things that real people wouldn't (typically because they are overly cliched), for instance: "Here she was, this totally cool and hot, awesome chick, who he loved hanging out with- and yet she had also been that crazy, psycho girl that totally killed the creep without even blinking an eye" (pg. 165).

All in all, I do think that this book is marginally better than the first book in the series and I am quite excited to see what Morgan has in store for us in the next book of the series, "Betrayed".

This read started off where it left off; and getting to know Caitlin's father is a mystery. However Caleb is trying to help her put the pieces together. Interestingly, I got about 35% or so and the two of them trying to come up with the clue: rose and thorn in Salem. Their conclusion thoughts reminds me of some "sleepy hollow" stuff! I was like, okay, yeah right! Hawthorne as thorn and scarlet letter as rose; both happen to be in Salem.

Not being picky (since I struggle with this as a writer too), but the Sam parts early on wasn't really moving the story. It just seems to be put there. I hope I am wrong, and it is obvious what is about to happen to him unless his sister can come save him out of nowhere.

Leisure eBook 2014

2.5 stars

Side note: Some parts didn't flow well for me and one part was a bit predictable; yet who their father is makes me want to read the next book and the importance of the sword which was taken from Caitlin as soon as she got it. Need to know more about Samantha character. Be mindful, Sam and Samantha name can confuse you (wonder why the author named them so close like that); luckily I kept up with it. Easy read though. One other complaint is the author loves her drivers to go 110-120 miles per hour and I know I don't drive past 85 miles per hour on freeway, so wonder who is really driving this fast without crashing? Especially a teen boy driving?

Spoiler******

I liked the first book of the series & was excited to start #2. This book didnt impress me at all. It reminded me of the vampire version of the movie National Treasure where they follow all the clues.

I also have a few problems with this book
1) If the brother is a runaway why would she think he would be in school in their old town and question him why he wasn't at school? Don't think kids can just enroll themselves into a school when they are runaways.
2) If the mom is dead and before death was switching jobs, then how does the 15 yr old have a smartphone? Who is paying for it?
3) The main character is changing into a vampire and her and the brother supposedly have the same dad( which is who they originally think was the vampire, not til the end when they suspect her mom, we know her and the brother dont have the same mom) why would she not think that the brother would change into a vampire also? And she never tells him about the vampire stuff or that his mom is DEAD! High or not you'd think that would be a conversation that would've taken place when they met in the barn.

So I liked the first book, barely finished the second. I think I'm going to start the third and decide from there if this is a series I'll continue.

Oh and the sex scene?! They kissed and then all of a sudden skip to them putting clothes on? Not romantic at all! I think it would have been better just ending that with a passionate kiss.

Anyone who is not sure if you liked the first book but wants to know if the rest of the series gets better, don't waste your time. It doesn't get better. If you're like me and you just have to know how the series ends just look for reviews with spoilers. It's not worth the read.

Dommage.

No, no e no.... No e no. Proprio non ci siamo. No, no, e ancora no. Che noia!!! Tempo perso.

I gave the first book 2 stars but out of curiosity (and some interest in the plot) I decided to give this one a chance and continue. Once again, a story with potential is ruined by poor writing. I'd like to see where Sam and Samantha's relationship goes, but that's about it. Kyle is a decent villain too, but again, the lack of editing, inconsistencies, and other mistakes just made me angry. And Caleb/Caitlin are not a good match. Swap them with her brother and Samantha & you might have a convincing love story.
Anyway, Two books is enough for me. But if you like unedited wattpad fanfiction then you'll probably enjoy these books.
